Incoming recruit Quentel Jones

Why jump to this conclusion? This could be as simple as fight/brawl..
A fight/brawl that led to murder? His brother has already been arrested for the murder and the headline says “second suspect arrested in murder”
It’s not a good look either way.

No reason to miss game time for this. I’m sure Stoops will have him running so much in practice he wont be breaking any more rules

This.

I'll wait for details. Clearly, though, not a good situation, and enrollment starts to look unlikely. Still, maybe he's been charged to promote his testimony or statement against his brother? Did his brother bring a gun to a fist fight unexpectedly? We'll see. Regardless, could be a long way from resolution. Hard to overlook the fact he's not charged with murder.

It will get cleared up. He will take a plea deal for simple assault and be here in the fall.

Some people here haven't been in real fights before, nor have they seen how quickly things can escalate. There's not much space between just a fight and what is legally homicide. I've seen some of the most brutal fights that were seconds and inches from homicides. One misstep... It's amazing

Bc it was a murder
I'm I reading this wrong?

- Jones was arrested for simple battery...not murder
- His brother was arrested for murder....earlier in the week.

Obviously something looks bad surrounding Quentel Jones family....but all we know today is Jones is arrested for only battery. If the charges escalate to more....then we have dismissal-ish news on our hands.

Kind of surprised by some of these posts. My earlier run about making him run extra was sarcastic. If he was assaulting the man that his brother murdered, I absolutely don’t want him anywhere near UK’s campus.
What if he was trying to protect his brother or himself from this guy trying to kill him or his brother???
Would that change your guilty verdict that could ruin this young man's life???

If that’s true, of course. I imagine the police already considered that, but the Jones brothers will have the opportunity to show that. Until they do, I wouldn’t have Quentel as part of the team if I was in charge.

Guilty until proven innocent.

Lol not my view at all. My view is not on the team until this gets resolved. It’ll be resolved legally either through trial or if they drop charges. If he’s legally absolved, the staff can make a decision based on the info that came out.

Seriously... and thank you. My Grandad always reminded me what happens to both of us when I assumed... you know... "You make an ass out of u and me."

I'm sensing a lot of privileged lives enjoyed in relative safety in this thread.

No telling what was happening here. We'll find out. In the meantime, it's just as likely he was the aggrieved party and his brother thought he might be saving his life.

For now its a misdemeanor but it feels like one of those charges they're using to hold someone while the investigation continues.

Agree. Especially since the story I read specifically mentions it was related to the murder. Unfortunately I think this case will get worse before it gets better.

Even if he wins at trial, it will be several months down the road.

Oh goodness....pretty massive projection of something we know nothing about.

- He's charged with a minor charge today
- Sure we see what unfolds.....but to throw him off the squad is silly as to what we know today

Ya we’ll see. That’s why my post had an “if” in it but my point stands.

Wait on the outcome of the investigation. You may be right. You may not be right. In this country, there is supposed to be a presumption of innocence. You can't judge someone's guilt or innocence by initial reports from third parties who are not witnesses. Sometimes initial reports have important omissions or inaccuracies.

I remember when everyone believed Vito Tisdale had taken a handgun to the frat party. That has nothing to do with this, except that it is an example of a conclusion propagated on the internet that implied guilt but turned out to be completely wrong. It happens.

no one has a "right" to be on a football team, Stoops and staff will decide and guilt or innocence isn't the only consideration.
Because that is true, we should withhold judgment and wait to see the outcome of the process. I withheld judgement for CRod and the frat party attendees because I trust our coaches to do what is right for our football program. After all, their track record has earned our respect for sure.

Yeah, I caught that. That would rank up there with having him write “I will not commit felonious assault,” 500 times.

Hope he can clear his name, even if he never makes it to our campus.

As to the “presumption of innocence” in our legal system, that has little to do with who you invite onto your college campus or onto your team.

The coaches will investigate: and even if innocent of convictable charges, this player might not be welcome, depending on the circumstances.

Prosecutor wanted his testimony to help make the prosecution of his brother easier. Kid wouldn't help doom his brother. In retaliation, Prosecutor pops younger brother for felony charge. Trying to sweat favorable testimony out of him by threatening to ruin his CFB career.

Just supposition on my part. Because his charges came so long after his older brothers. And DA spoiled brat behavior I've observed.

May be just a supposition, but that is the way prosecutors think. You are probably right. If so, charges against our freshman should eventually be dropped as long as he has competent legal counsel.

This is why the presumption of innocence must be respected.

Once the investigation has been completed, our coaches will look at all the information and make the best decision for our football team. They are good at that.

The year we need to sign a couple of four stars for the interior three positions. Last couple of years have signed guys at those positions we hope will put on whole lot of good weight and strength. Need some very high ranked on both sides of the line to not eventually see a drop off in being able to play smash mouth football effectively.
