IMO, people are looking at Pope the wrong way

My argument is the "coaches" and "fans" like yourself and the ones you're defending. Everyone sees it. It is mentioned a lot but you all are never around because its after a win. I just like calling it and I have time.
You’re also just angrily replying to everyone in here lmao.

Not ONCE did I say “Pope should do X” yet you looped me into this because of a post I made that essentially said “hey guys we can talk about things we didn’t like without saying the guy is terrible”. My point was for people to have nuance when talking about things and not act like the sky is falling based on one loss

Rather than be upset and say he is doing a bad job, I think it's the opposite. We do not have Top 10 talent other than probably Oweh. He cobbled together a team in very short order that has a handful of quality wins. Much better than Cal would have done. We are coming back down to earth, which is understandable. Our frontcourt is extremely exploitable. We lack drive from a number of players. I love Robinson, but he gives off a very casual, almost lazy, vibe. Brea is about the same.

I think we will get a few more great wins, but any hopes of a title run are wishful thinking at best. But we had no right to expect we would have a contender, given the circumstances. Hopefully, next season we will have a more well-rounded team with the right pieces in the right places.
I don’t think anyone is expecting a title. Just expecting to beat vandy and hustle after loose balls

I didn't make it personal. If I think your opinion is dumb its not making it personal to call it such. My argument is you aren't a coach so stop acting like you all could have one the game. You just don't want to hear that.Have a good one!
Okay, we aren't coaches, so, in your pathetic world, it means we can't be critical on a message board, but your dumb ass doesn’t even know the difference between "one" ond "won", yet you are typing out posts on here.
So, since you obviously failed grammar, you shouldn't be posting. Fair is fair.

Carr out forced Pope to use some lineups we haven't seen. At least he didn't stick with Chandler after his first half turnover. Plus, Butler is ailing and has been for a bit now. I think he was trying to keep the lineup as fresh as he could. We're limited. We have been all season. We saw a drop onve Kriisa went out. We saw a bigger drop without Carr today. We don't have a lot of athelticism. Vandy has a ton of it. I know that may be hard for fans to grasp but it is what it is right now. We're Kentucky. Rosters aren't put together in a few months with regularity.
Now that’s truth.

3 people. I have replied to 3 people. One of which is mentally questionable. I have "reasonable" comments to but you don't want to see those. You're not coaches.

This is an excellent post. I'm not quitting on Pope. At this point I still feel he is a good hire at UK. He has done a great job with less talent so far this season and amazing given the time he had to put an entire roster and staff together. We still may not have all the pieces next year yet either but I think we will get closer to what Pope is trying to build. We just need to be patient and give him a little time. Hope that Ohwe, Garrison and some others come back next season as I feel they coukd make huge gains in their game. Is there anyway Almonor can come back for another season??? I feel he woukd be huge with one more year under Pope.

Again… find me the post where I personally tried to act like I was a coach or tell Pope what he needs to do/should have done better.

You basically came at me for having an opinion that I think it’s OK for people to express frustrations/things they don’t like without going over the top with it. Yet you responded with your own opinion, stated in a pretty hostile manner.

We both have opinions - it’s okay to disagree on them but no reason to get this heated over something as simple as what I said.

And just to be fair, part of me AGREES with your premise. Even last year, I never engaged in the discussions about Cal and lineups, etc, because I don’t like telling people how to coach. But that doesn’t mean I think it’s unreasonable for people to express grievances with things they didn’t like during a specific game

Yep you're right. He should have been able to foresee the horrible ball handling and then....done what exactly? Told them to stop?

Can't blame the coaching staff for the one part of the game (physical) they don't control.

Team is great when they are on. They just have to find how to do that consistently. It is a lot more than just some adjustments in the coach plan though.

It's funny when Cals teams had a lot of turnovers and missed FTs or whatever he got blamed for it. And he had inexperienced freshmen while Pope has experienced guys doing it.

I am starting to get a little concerned that he might be a little nice. That might be his big negative. He can recruit, he can coach, but his teams might be a little too lazy and lackadaisical at times. We've seen the team way too lethargic and not giving it their all. And you can't help but compare the body language of this team to Cals (only cause he was so recent).. Cal had problems, but he always had his teams ready to fight. We lost because of bone-headed plays, but almost never because we gave up on plays. And that, to me, is almost just as bad.

I'm thrilled with how this season is unfolding. I'm still adjusting to Cal being gone and I could not be more happy about that! Our future with Mark Pope looks very bright! Nothing else needs to be said.

You tried to facilitate immediately after my comment saying "we can say what pope is doing wrong and right"

No you can't because you aren't a coach.

It is pretty simple you can say what you want. I not a mod and even a mod wouldn't ban you for it. But I can tell you that I think that's dumb and you all have no ideal what you are talking about. If you don't like that then just move on or don't post. Don't care either way. Won't see you all again until the next lose.

Again, you’re looping me in with the negative people on the board (“won’t see you all again until the next lose”). You’re just making assumptions that are based on nothing. I know for a fact I’m more of a positive poster than negative, and again you’d be hard pressed to find any extremely negative posts from me on this board.

Just to clarify - your point is that no one on here should be allowed to comment on a coaches performance since they’re not coaches? Just out of curiosity - does that apply to media members as well? Most of them weren’t coaches either. Genuinely curious what your stance is

That just sounds like the same case of stupid? A turnover is 9 times out of 10 on the ball handler not the coach. Don't know what you're going for there but okay

Yes I don't think anyone that hasn't coached should act like they know more than a D1 coach not even the failed coaches turned announcers. Really took you that long to get it.

I think the only concern starting to take root in my mind is that his system might just not be a great fit in the sec. Even when the SEC wasn’t THIS version of the sec it’s always been a grown man’s league where you better be ready to fight and scrap. I just hope he can adjust his system to kind of live in both worlds if that makes sense.

Good to know. Also major stretch on your part - how does what I posted = “acting like they know more than a D1 coach”. Just because people express their opinion or a grievance doesn’t indicate they’re saying that as if they know more than the coach lmao.

But I guess your opinion is no one on here should be able to discuss coaches since we’re not coaches, or players since we’re not players either. Makes it pretty tough to talk about basketball. I guess we should all just talk about our jobs, kids, etc. Sure would make for a fun message board!

Yup, if you want your team to be tough, the coach better have some toughness in his coaching style. Everything can't be beautiful and fantastic.

It's like he's afraid to get on Amari, dude still plays lazy and with his hands down, why is that still a thing?

Aren't you excited about your game with Oklahoma tonight?
If Cal wins, are you going to come here and explain how he… ."one" the game?
LOL buddy people see this. You're never here. While I may not be liked here I am a fan and have frequented since I joined. You on the other hand seem a little fishy.

You said you could say what he was doing bad to. I said that already. Keep up. You're wasting time because I'm not reading past the quotes because its obvious you can't grasp this.

Who made you the boss? Are you the Messiah of the board that makes the rules on who can say what?

If I want to say Pope did a bad job preparing the team and with his lineups, there's nothing you're going to do about it.

It's funny, you are telling people they can't critisize Pope because we aren't coaches, but you're blaming bigtime D1 players for the loss, there's no way you were ever even a juco player you hack.

Get lost.

I bet you think you "one" the internet today.

Better go get ready, your Hawg game is coming on soon.

You can say whatever. It's just dumb so I was pointing that out.

Make me you big tough internet guy

Man, you're bad at this. Apparently grammar in Arkansas grade schools sucks.

No, you’re just over exaggerating everything lmao. What I said means nothing about people “acting like they’re better”. I don’t think you understand the principle of “reading between the lines”.

Brother, you’ve lost this argument. The entire premise of your argument essentially means that no one can critique or even talk about a coach or player, which means we can’t talk basketball. That’s absurd lmao - I’m curious what you think of sports radio, podcasts, journalists, etc as many of those have never coached or played either.

Keep moving the needle!!!

Wait? Who is saying that Pope is doing a bad job?

Most people have been pleasantly surprised by this season.

Has two games suddenly changed that?

Nah, you're running around telling people they can't critisize Pope, because we aren't coaches. That's exactly what you have been saying.

I bet you disappear around 8:30 when Calipari squares off against Oklahoma though.

Apparently it’s okay to talk about players even though we’re not players, but not coaches. Make it make sense!! I’m begging you.

Answer me one question - give me an example of something you think IS appropriate on a message board

Good thing I'm not a teacher. Just like you and being a coach!

What's the game plan for next week in Knoxville coach? Can't wait to hear them!

Replace any two of our top 7 with players who have NBA futures and we would be a legit top 10 team/title contender. As is we’re punching above our weight, which I love. If it weren’t for Pope on the sideline we would have a bubble team.

What's being said is today wasn't his best coaching performance.
This team wasn't mentally prepared and his lineup combos in the first half were pretty bad and IMO, that is fair and if you asked him, he would agree with those takes I bet.

You can see the players efforts. Coaching is an unseen part. Pretty simple.
