When I left the US Air Force in 2007, I have been on a mission to find a good job in Lexington. After eight long years, that time has finally come.

It's related to basketball for the following reason. Many of you enjoy watching the live stream I put up, and it might be affected during my move. I'm not sure if I'll have all of my cable/internet ready to go right away, but it will be a high priority for me.

My new job is located at Beaumont Centre Circle. If you know the area and want to give me tips on housing/schools/etc I would appreciate it.

Good Luck and Congrats on new Job!

Im not as familar with that section of lexington but I know some of my family that is, I'll ask later on this week. if theres any particular thing you need to know.

As far as the stream I can help out with any of your followers until you get back online

Beware....traffic absolutely sucks in Lexington. Much worse than Louisville. Factor that in.

Haha, Lexington traffic isn't that bad. I moved to just outside of Boston, now that is some bad traffic. When I'm back in Lexington now, it's a nice reprieve.

Congrats on the new job OP. Enjoy living in Lexington. I've been away to long to offer neighborhood and school suggestions, but I'm sure you will get help with that shortly.

Eh it's not too bad.

Between living in D.C., New Orleans and Tampa, Lexington traffic is a breath of fresh air.

It is certainly worse than traffic in Louisville, though.

Compared to where I live right now (Portland), Lexington traffic is easy, but traffic near Keeneland and the airport is absolutely terrible.

I always thought Nicholasville Rd was the worst for me. Trying to get to the mall, movie theater, or Wal-Mart any time after work was an absolute pain.

And when it was raining or snowing? Forget about it.

Great area! Real good location for...everything! We almost moved our office to Beaumont Circle last year. Now were moving to Indy...

DC Baltimore...the beltway.... Absolutely horrendous. Living in Louisville is a blessing when you look at the traffic in DC Metro.

Tampa is bad, especially in the city...but that is because of perpetual highway construction and the need to funnel down to several miles long "causeway" type bridge traffic feeding the town from St. Pete etc.... No good way out if something screws that up. You are stuck. I think that once they get their highway construction completed (like Nashville) then it will be a lot better. But you cannot compare millions of people in a metro area with Lexingtons in the couple hundred K size. No excuse for it to be that awful for a town that size...IMO.

Congratulations, Lexington is a great small city. My wife and I lived there for 6 years. I am jealous.

Had a chance to go work for Lexmark many years ago as an Engineer.

I really, really wanted to live in Lexington but I just couldn't pull the trigger because I thought I saw the writing on the wall for them and I didn't want to job hunt in a small market city at some point down the road.

Congrats on your move, I'm jealous

I have your number and I'll give you a call. (you can edit out your number now if you want.)

I currently live in Maryland, north of DC. Traffic is B.A.D. I thought I was living the American dream, making more money than I ever imagined. But my back yard is the size of a postage stamp. My three kids sit in our big townhouse and all they want are some chickens to take care of like they do when they visit my in-laws. I'm giving up a third of my currently salary to get my kids out of the city and away from an HOA that won't let me change the color of my front door.

Plus, I hear they play a little basketball in Lexington. [winking]

Traffic in Lexington isn't that bad if you can avoid Nicholasville Rd and Tates Creek Rd during rush hours. Don't know about the rest of Louisville traffic, but I-64 at I-65 is the worst stretch of traffic I encounter all year and I drive over 35,000 miles a year.

You should check out the townhouses right there in the Beaumont Center. They are nice and new. There is a YMCA right there if you like the gym and its a great place to play basketball if you are into that. I'm not real sure about the school though.

Thanks, but no more townhouse living for me. My kids need some room to run. But I will check out the YMCA.

I retired from AF in 2007 too. Also, I was stationed in Maryland at the time too. Were you at Fort Meade by chance?

Congrats, Bro!

Coming from MD you really won't find much traffic. They are right Keeneland area is bad during the meets, Nicholasville Road near Fayette Mall is bad at rush hour and insane around Christmas, and Northern New Circle Road especially the northwest part in either direction is stupid between 5 and 6pm. But other than that there's not much of what will strike you as traffic.

Plus, Lexington is the easiest city in the whole world to find your way around. If you know what direction something is, just point your car there and you'll find roads to take you there.

Southland Christian is an excellent church not far from you. Look em up.

Don't know the ages of your kids, but Rosa Parks Elementary/Beaumont Middle & PL Dunbar HS are the district you want to be in.

Welcome to the Bluegrass!

I have a ~1900 sq ft house for rent in Masterson Station. Just throwing that out there. :)

Edit: Although you said you wanted away from an HOA, so that might not be the best area for you.

I live in a suburb of Phoenix. It is much easier for me to drive here than in Lexington. If you want to circle around Lex, it works. Driving through Lexington is nightmarish.

Mind if I asked what you did there? If you had a clearance, I know you can't really get into it, and I am not asking you too, but since we were both there and got out the same year, I was just wondering if maybe we knew each other. Or some of the same people.

From 2005-07, I was with S31.

Very nice area to be in and just a short drive from shopping/attractions, etc. As others have already said there are some real nice townhomes in that area unless you prefer to live in your own house with a little bit of property. LA Fitness is also close by if that is something you are interested in and some good golf courses are not far away either if you are a golfer. I moved to Lexington within the past 4 years and am located in the Hamburg area which is on the other side of Lexington from you. Traffic can get busy at times but I don't find it as bad as that one poster was suggesting. I've been in lots of cities that have far worse traffic problems. But, I agree, Nicholasville Rd is the worst part of Lexington for traffic. To the poster saying Lexington is a great "small" city, it happens to be the 60th largest city in the nation although I admit it has the feel of a smaller city than it is. Love it here and not one bit sorry for moving here, lots to do, many great restaurants, and not far from other points of interests and other larger cities. Welcome to Lexington. (oh, just saw where you aren't into townhomes so good luck on finding a nice new home, there are plenty available and cost less than other parts of the country (depending on where you are coming from).

Beaumont is a nice area. You'll be near Palomar and Rabbit Run. Shouldn't be hard to find a nice house in the area. Plus you get a Liquor Barn right by work! Also Bru Burger is a good spot to grab a beer.

Oh & Lexington traffic no big deal...just learn the back roads!

Yep. I work on Nicholasville Road and live on Harrodsburg Road. Takes less than 10 minutes to get to work. My boss lives downtown and it takes her forever. She just moved to Lexington in March. I've been trying to teach her how to get to work faster and she doesn't get it. She was mad because she decided to drive straight down Nicholasville road to get home after a football game and it took her almost 2 hours.

Beaumont Farms apartments are nice. I lived there for four years...

I went to grad school at the University of Maryland and HATED traffic there. I'd mostly use mass transit and most of my driving in the area was actually driving for the University Shuttle system. There was one fellow on the facilities staff who rode the commuter train from Martinsburg, WV to DC and then out to College Park where he would catch my bus for the last leg up to campus....... spent 90 minutes commuting each way because in WV his salary afforded him a house with a yard for his kids.

If you do have issues with your broadcast, what stretch of time do you think that'll be? You are my go-to for my UK internet viewing.

I live in hamburg and never have to really leave...plus they will have a new high school out there in a few yrs and there are always new elementary schools poppin up

You're gonna love that new traffic pattern on Harrodsburg Road under New Circle Rd. It's an S-shaped pattern similar to a roundabout. It looks funky but it definitely makes for better traffic flow.

Matter of fact, a brand new elementary school is currently under construction and coming along nicely on Polo Club near Deerhaven. Hamburg is booming all over again right now with new construction. Not sure how all that will affect traffic patterns in the area.
