Coach Pope will be the reason the NCAA will decide to move the 3 point line further out.
Let’s hope not, I love seeing us bomb 3’s at this rate! We did hit a lot pretty far behind the line too.Coach Pope will be the reason the NCAA will decide to move the 3 point line further out.
Press: What are your thoughts about shooting 42 threes?I just loved how in the postgame show Pope was like yeah this is great but this is all stuff that's guardable. Just wait till we start pressuring the corners enough so we can add in the stuff that's not guardable.
Modern basketball. I'm not a huge huge fan of it, but it is fun to watch.Press: What are your thoughts about shooting 42 threes?
Pope: We missed some opportunities to shoot more.
Wow.
We have skilled players all over the court. Even at center Amari is said to be a 2nd pg by his teammates. We aren't just throwing the ball around the perimeter . We are gonna be very hard to beat in MarchModern basketball. I'm not a huge huge fan of it, but it is fun to watch.
When it's on, you can't be beat. When it's off though.....WOOF.
I just hope we do have other tricks up our sleeves and aren't a one dimensional offense. I don't think Pope is that biased, but we will see.
Maybe I'm too optimistic but Pope is a smart guy and I believe he has a plan. He's not lying when he says he wants to take a lot of threes, but I don't think his end game is to live and die by them. I suspect it's kinda like football. He's using the passing game and the threat of it, to open up the running game, or drives to the basket. He's showing early what we are capable of. Teams will absolutely have to guard us tight on the perimeter. This opens up lanes to take not only high percentage layups but create opportunities for high efficiency trips to the foul line. And with this roster I think he has some nice insurance. "Oh dang, I have 3 guys having a bad shooting night, guess it's a good thing I have 5 others who shoot just as well." Almost every player made a 3 tonight and we shot 50% as a team. At least for this season, I think the odds are extremely low that our whole team has an off shooting night. Not saying it won't happen. It still could and we will likely lose those games. But I believe the strategy will win way more than it loses. We shall see!Modern basketball. I'm not a huge huge fan of it, but it is fun to watch.

I’m just not a big proponent of “live/die” by the three. Don’t get me wrong it’s better than long twos but I’m also wary of being one dimensional. It’s kind like in football. Say you have a graat RB and you run it until they stop it. What do you do when they stop it or put 8 in the box? You better be decent at something else. That being said I don’t think Pope is that naive to not have one. I just want to see it a bit first. Nothing hurts worse than going home in the NCAA because your shooters turn into icicles. There are too many 3 point shooters on this team to die by the three. Previous Cal teams would have 2-3 shooters, but this team has several.I’m just not a big proponent of “live/die” by the three.
