He is a beast on the level of Dwight Howard with more ball skills and motor...and he's only going to get better. There is not another athlete close to him in this class.

Bam Highlights

He's got a mid-range jump shot and he can pass the ball from the high post. Agreed that Giles would've been number one but it's not a guarantee that he fully recovers from the injury to be the same player he was.

Oh god let the over hype train begin. At this point he's not really close to #1 pick talent. He needs to improve a lot on the offensive end first. We desperately need an offensively skilled big man for next year. Hoping we can get Bolden.

not versatile enough to be a #1 pick unless he develops more of a mid range game or becomes a defensive animal. At 6'9" he's gotta be able to shoot it a little or have some floor game if he wants to be drafted #1. Don't care what his coach says. Great chance at lottery, however.

Smart bet is still on Harry Giles assuming he gets healthy and al his skills/mobility return.

No doubt about Giles ... really hate the we missed on him. Only problem is he has 2 acl tears (different knees) in the last 2 years, correct? That is normally caused by putting too much work onto the knee that wasn't torn before (I know this because I've had this injury before and had surgery and went through all that crap -- very VERY long road to recovery and I still don't trust that knee)

You will be wrong OP. Hate to burst your bubble. He's a 6'9" kid with a great motor. But he's basically an undersized center. He possesses few of the qualities NBA teams look for in a power forward.

Very unlikely unless the Cavs somehow end up with the first pick. They did pick Anthony Bennett #1 overall...

It is way too early too early to make projections on a kid who has yet to even play a college game. Hopefully, he turns out to be a great player, but time will tell.

To be clear I disagree with nothing you said. I'm just pretty sure Bam is a legitimate 6'10'' according to coaches and some websites. I know some boards have him at 6'9". I agree though Giles is a safe #1 unless those ACL tears derail him.

Bolden plus Bam would sure make me feel good right now. That's a lot of beef down low for opponents to contend with. Bam's motor will make him hard to guard. His one year of development will be interesting to watch. Soooo glad we signed him. Tremendous athlete.

The defense in those highlights was literally nowhere to be found. Not to mention he looked like he was playing against children, which he was. He outweighed everyone on that court by a solid 100 lbs. Lets just wait and see how he does against other college big men with experience.

Height is overrated. reach however is completely underrated. Im going to guess that if Bam is 6'9 then his reach is something like 7' or bigger.

Keep in mind that Bam, while playing against decent competition (including the #1 high school team in the country recently), is still playing against high schoolers. Slow your roll on the #1 pick talk until he plays against some beasts.

Probably just be another Archie...

If his 'reach' is only 7' then he has the shortest arms ever ever. Ever.

I remember this board giving Randle a bunch of grief for having impossibly short arms for a big man. He just needed a little assistance.

Regardless, I'm glad he's coming here. He will probably struggle at first but I bet he finishes well.
He better be prepared for defenses to clog the middle. That seems to be a constant theme against Cal's teams.

He has potential to be #1. All the Scouts are saying he's hitting his mid range jumpers. He's a d Howard clone which for sure has #1 pick all over it.

Lets assume the 76ers have the first pick. they wont take another big... I dont think. Id say a guy like josh jackson, tatum, or fox is more likely in the convo than Bam or Giles. Giles injury history scares me.

I hope the OP realizes that Bam can still be really really insanely good and still not be the #1 pick. Same goes for all of our recruits. Does his draft pick ultimately even really matter? He could end up being the most dominant post in college basketball, a national champion, the #7 (or whatever) pick and that is a hugely successful year.

D Howard is 6'11".....and his senior year in HS he average 25 pt, 18 rb, 8 bk, and 4 assists a game. He was easily the best HS player in America and won every HS post season award there is.

Not saying Bam cant get there, but those are lofty expectations.

I know what I saw, so I don't need a correction from you.

There was a high volume of shots in the game and he got a number of rebounds. What I said very clearly is that he did not dominate the boards. That team got many offensive rebounds, scored inside on quite a few, and were not inhibited by Adebayo's presence from getting to the rim. Of course -- as I said -- his game was effected by the guards he plays with. But factoring that in, he has a long way to go to be consistently in the right position, make the right decisions, and bring to bear the appropriate levels of energy to dominate a high school game, much less a college game.

He has lots of raw ability but didn't make very many effective offensive moves. He was tentative with the ball, more content to pass it out to the wing than try to force the action. He certainly didn't intimidate a team of very good high school players. I'm glad he's going to be a Wildcat. He'll contribute quite a bit in his first year, but won't be a Davis or a Cousins. I suspect the people saying he's going to be the No. 1 overall pick in the NBA were saying the same about Skal this time last year.

If he grabbed 18 rebounds without even trying, i can't wait until this kid gets to Kentucky and Cal gets the kid to play hard! We might just see a 20 rebound game from Bam! ha. How in the world would anyone be saying anything about Skal's game last year when the kid didn't even play highschool basketball for 2 years? How would the experts have seen the kid play to make claims like this? If we go by Cal's past success, i would vote for this kid being better or as good as expected than a bust. You wouldn't agree?

I just watched him play an entire high school game in which he was largely outclassed. The points I remember him scoring were off dunks against much smaller kids. But he didn't make many offensive moves. He didn't dominate the boards, either in terms of getting good position or fighting for every ball. Most concerning, he didn't do a lot to get himself open, and didn't move that well in the half court without the ball. He's playing with average high school guards which is a big part of the problem. But I didn't see a guy 15 months from being the No. 1 overall pick.
My observation exactly. Over rated.

hes a legit 6-10 and probably sitting close to 260 lbs with what 6 % body fat? add the fact he has a MKG type motor and its not out of the real of possibility. also he will be playing with 2 of the best guards in the nation and the other team wont be able to double him with fear of Monk and Fox torching them.

- MKG went #2 at 6-7 232 and a tweener so ya 6-10 260 beast compared to Dhoward could go #1

You talking about the ESPN game? You say he didnt do much to get himself open ...well, it was pretty obvious that its hard to get open when coaching has you on the opposite weak side set up at the 3pt line and even harder when your team mates take 2 seconds past half court to launch a 3pt shot. I saw a 6'10 big man who hit FT's and drove past his man to get his points... Big men usually get put back pts but with so many 3's flying with his team, the ball bounced out a little too far for put backs ...and you rarely see guys his size dribble past their man especially when the player is smaller and supposed to be faster.

This thread and OP are what UK basketball has become. The questions should be around how can he help us win a national title. Not placing bets on his draft potential. But thats what we are. Thats UK basketball. We only have 1 freaking national title with all of this talent and no one on here, except for Big Blue Sean is even remotely discussing it. We're too busy concerned with whether a player can be a number 1 pick. Amazing.

Thanks for reminding us of the 1 title for the 5,658,965,354,125,698,492,168th time.

Just go watch him next year in Rupp and see. Sit down in Rupp Arena and watch the next number 1 draft pick and be excited. Thats what its all about, getting to see players with NBA potential in Rupp Arena.
