Illinois executing the gameplan UK needs to use vs Purdue

The problem is that we dont really shut anything down…

And going down the stretch in a tight game, their big man will torch us.

As if those Purdue guys can guard any of our players. It works both ways.

As I've said they will probably lose n 2nd round to 8 or 9 and hell we will probably lose before sweet 16 as well if I'm being honest.

We will run Edey ragged like a rented f**ckin mule. I want to see them so bad. Edey is their only NBA player and it’s a toss up whether he catches on or not. Credit and compliments to him for returning and working on his body and athleticism. You know, the Timberwolves are the first to buck the small ball trend and they are 1st in the West. Someone was going to successfully zag when everyone else zigged, and depending on how they perform in the playoffs, you’re going to see the pendulum start to swing to a degree. There could be a place for Edey.

As for the rest of their roster, they maybe have 2 or 3 fringe G-Leaguers. If we played them in December, forget about it, we lose by 16. Now that this team knows who they are, I say bring it. Ain’t scared of no Big 10 plow horse.
How many NBA players and G-League players did St. Peters have? What about Kansas State last year?

They can beat us. A lot of teams can beat us.

I think we have the beat chance vs Purdue as far as the top 3 go. Their guards won’t be able to stay in front of ours. If we take away the 3 ball, they can’t score with us. Illinois took away the 3 ball in the 1st half. They didn’t in the 2nd.

Be careful what you wish for. Houston's offense is still very efficient, they just play a slow tempo and they would try to slow us down quite a bit. They score 1.21 points per possession and we score 1.23. Our games just have 9 more possessions per game, so our raw scoring average is higher.
I watched their game the other night it was 26-16 at half. My god it was ugly. They may be efficient but damn they play slow and low possession games. It sure feels like more than 9 possessions.

I think Purdues loss last year in the tourney is promoting a lot of skepticism about their team and a lot of discounting their success this year.

They’ve played and beaten really good teams who’ve played all different styles. Their resume is insane. Tenn, Gonzaga, Zona, Marquette, Bama, Illinois twice.

I don’t seek UK suddenly playing good enough defense to slow them down. Could the Cats try and outscore them? Sure.

I see the Cats having as good a chance against Zona or Houston as I do against Purdue.

What a moronic comment. Those occurrences have zero bearing on what will happen this season. You go ahead and remain scared of big bad Purdon’t. I’m chillin.

I would 1000% pick Zona.

But

As of now, UT has passed them on BracketMatrix. We won’t be the 4 in UT’s bracket.

We can’t slow down Purdue. But we can absolutely outscore them. I don’t see them slowing us down, either.

Illinois executed the game plan excellently in the 1st half. Purdue’s guards made some tough 3’s in the 2nd half.

Houston and Uconn have very good, physical guards. I think those are tougher matchups for is:

Hey moron, you specifically focused on the number of NBA/G-League players on the team as a reason they can't measure up to UK.

Keep chillin', dumb-ass.

Zona has some horrific losses ... multiple double-digit favorite upsets to bad teams. Overall, I think they're the weakest 1 seed contender. They have a nice mix of players, though, with Ballo, Love, and Johnson in particular. Keshad Johnson was the one player in the portal I really wanted Cal to get.

Cool keep being a pusillanimous pantywaist, even though it’s unbecoming of a supposed UK fan.

I’d prefer Purdue to other teams at the top. Mainly bc there is a blueprint in how to beat them. You have to run them and push pace. This Uk team does that well. This team can’t guard Edey, but few teams can. They can try and force Boilers to make long 2s though while letting Edey go for 40. Purdue is a really good team, but we have speed and athleticism that could wear them out trying to guard us.

UConn and Houston have full grown men. They are physical and could really pose issues for our guys getting good looks. Houston, in particular, would be a nightmare for this team. They guard like their lives depend on it. They are probably just too physical for the Cats. Whether we want to admit it or not, UK basketball is a finesse team… not a physical one. Huskies and Cougars present bigger challenges I think.

Yeah.

Illinois only scored 31 in the 2nd half. Illinois held Purdue to 1 three pointer in the 1st half. They gave up 8 in the second.

I don’t think Purdue holds us to 31 in the 2nd half. If we don’t give up 8 3’s in a half, we probably win.

The blueprint exists. Illinois didn’t finish. Maybe we won’t either if we see them. But I think we have as good a chance as anyone

And I thought my harmless joke was obvious. Silly me. It really is amazing how many people on the internet start topics and want to control the replies, lol.
