Illinois executing the gameplan UK needs to use vs Purdue

I think we need to do that anyway. The way we shoot the 3 even if we are giving up a bunch inside we can likely out score them if we stay home on the 3 line. Of course if you run into a team that shoots it 20% from 3 you pack the lane but against a decent to good shooting team I think that’s the game plan.

Not watching but the Purdue game starts against the refs. Do they let you even try to defend Edey? Or do they call fouls constantly and change how your bigs play?

I see 2 combined fouls for all of Illinois’ bigs. That’s key.

Though I do hope Purdue comes back for our purposes.

Actually one of the only teams I don’t wanna see. I don’t wanna have cal have to deal with Edey. Painter will do just like Few and run the same play we can’t stop over and over and over.
I think we win that if Cal decides to make it a race to 90. He kept trying to sub for defense rather than offense.

If we take away the 3 ball, Edey isn’t going to carry them to 90.

Some forgetting how we make every team good at 3s and drives to the basket.

Pursue is grossly underestimated by some. Painter has been to Sweet 16s and an elite 8. It took Few decades before he got Gonzaga to a FF.

Boilers resume is insane.

We will run Edey ragged like a rented f**ckin mule. I want to see them so bad. Edey is their only NBA player and it’s a toss up whether he catches on or not. Credit and compliments to him for returning and working on his body and athleticism. You know, the Timberwolves are the first to buck the small ball trend and they are 1st in the West. Someone was going to successfully zag when everyone else zigged, and depending on how they perform in the playoffs, you’re going to see the pendulum start to swing to a degree. There could be a place for Edey.

As for the rest of their roster, they maybe have 2 or 3 fringe G-Leaguers. If we played them in December, forget about it, we lose by 16. Now that this team knows who they are, I say bring it. Ain’t scared of no Big 10 plow horse.

I don’t think so. Arizona tried it. Illinois tried it. Fail.

Edey will get his against any of our bigs, Ugo would get schooled easily and since he provides no offense, he's a liability. Big Z would be able to pull Edey from the paint and get him moving and hopefully worn down a bit, especially if Z is hitting threes. Would be interesting.

I feel like we need to score 1.2 PPP or more to beat any of these offensive juggernauts at the top. Purdue, UConn, Arizona would be the top teams in adjusted offensive efficiency in practically any other season, and yet they are 2nd, 3rd, and 6th.

It can be done! The 2014 team strung together scintillating offensive outputs against Wichita, Michigan, and Wisconsin en route to the championship game.

I would love for us to play Purdue.

If we can’t be a 1 then I hope they are the 1 in our bracket.

I can just see a game where our guys try to stop him and we get some early foul trouble that causes us to get down a lot early.

That would be my hope as well plus our guard play should dominate theirs, my issue is getting a crew who get us some key foul trouble. We like to reach on pick and rolls and Edey will get plenty of fouls called on him.

Be careful what you wish for
Not arguing about how good Purdue is because I’m a semi boilermaker fan . But I hate that stupid statement. I guarantee the vast majority of people would be happier with things they ”wished for “ than things they didn’t. It’s stupid and overplayed.

I’d much rather play Houston, elite defense vs. elite offense. If we play halfway decent defense I don’t know if they could score enough.

That seems like a sound plan. I just would prefer to play a team that's not quite as physical as them; we do better against the finesse types

Be careful what you wish for. Houston's offense is still very efficient, they just play a slow tempo and they would try to slow us down quite a bit. They score 1.21 points per possession and we score 1.23. Our games just have 9 more possessions per game, so our raw scoring average is higher.

This was basically our game plan against Sullinger and Ohio St in 2011. Let the big guy get his and shot down everyone else.
The problem is that we dont really shut anything down…

And going down the stretch in a tight game, their big man will torch us.
