If there's no announcement, doesn't that mean Diallo's staying in the draft?

My understanding is he would have to withdraw from the draft no later than tonight if he wanted to return to college, correct? So, no announcement would mean he's staying in.

Do I have that right?

Yeah but he doesn't have to "announce" it, I assume he just has to contact the NBA to withdraw. I am not sure if the NBA would then make that information public right away.

He doesn't have to announce publicly. He could always withdraw, or stay in, quietly and leave us all guessing. At that point it could be looked up through public record as soon as the databases update.

Oh good lord that's not going to happen.

Where I get hung up on it is if he goes through the night and we don't hear anything, since he hasn't (to our knowledge) hired an agent, he technically can't stay in the draft, right?

Not sure what you mean by can't stay in the draft. I don't think there is a rule he hires an agent. If he doesn't formally withdraw then he is in the draft and cannot return to college agent or no agent.

Technically he could withdraw and not say a thing. The NBA withdrawal deadline is a couple of weeks away and they won't release a list until then.

Chances are he's just putting the finishing touches on his Players Tribune proclamation and it will post at 3am to announce his decision.

Why would he be required to hire an agent to stay in the draft? If he hires an agent, he looses his amateur status and cannot return to college, but I'm not aware of any requirement to hire an agent in order to participate in the draft.

You can stay in the draft without an agent.

That makes sense. I just assumed they had to hire an agent to stay in the draft

No announcement means he is NBA bound unless he made a deal to return days ago and kept it under wraps, which I find doubtful.

I'm pretty sure it's like doing your taxes. Most people hire an accountant. Most players hire an agent but it isn't technically required.

Someone on twitter said they suspected that if he says nothing, then it could mean he's leaving without wanting the ish-storm that will come with a twitter announcement. Makes sense to me.

if he goes past the NCAA deadline, does the NCAA rule him ineligible?
if not then technically he could wait until the NBA deadline

Yes and no. They would declare him ineligible but there is an appeals process. Some kid from Miss St accidentally missed the deadline a few years back, but the NCAA said no harm no foul. I believe this was the same year they declared Enes ineligible for the crime of being born in Turkey.

All of this is academic now that Hami is coming back.
