If St. John’s win the title

Id be happy. I'd also start to believe that he's just as good as Coach K, who everyone just considered the GOAT. I'd feel very confident in saying that Pitino has proven himself as the modern day best coach out there, and it'd be hard to argue. Title at UK, UofL and then St. John's. Tournament appearances at Iona. Won the leagues in Greece.

I don't think I'd be happy, but I wouldn't be upset by it either. It would be kind of cool and an awesome comeback story.

I think I’d be pulling for him and happy.

If he wins another title, he might be considered the best ever. I’d rather him have that title than Coach K.

Once Kentucky is out of the tournament, I don’t watch any more basketball games. I have done it for years, now that should tell you how much March Madness I have watched the last few years. I guess I would be happy for Pitino, but they won’t win it, they shoot like crap from 3.

Fairly happy, but would be nice if Pitino were helping us get the likes of Smith and Richmond rather than getting them and turning them into a top 10 team. Kind of an odd dynamic where the goodwill is real on both sides but we’re still (of necessity) in competition in some ways.

Houston, Iowa St, and St. John's top my incredibly small list of teams that I would root for to win it all if UK gets eliminated (assuming they are all still in the bracket).

Final Four at Providence.

I'd be pretty happy because I've always found the entire Pitino career arch interesting. And If he's the first coach to take four* schools to the Final Four and win a title at three* it would be a pretty cool story. And revitalizing a dead program around the corner from where he went to high school and winning a title would a great way to end his career (assuming this was his last stop).

Wouldn't care, still not a Pitino fan. That being said I do believe it would land him on the mount rushmore of greatest college basketball coaches.

Pitino played ten (10) players today, with four (4) foreigners: two (2) from Europe and two (2) from Africa. He’s recruiting internationally … interesting. He’s got an excellent team !!

Who considers krakywaky the GOAT?

The issue with all of them is they need to make shots to win 6 games and none are capable of offensively beating teams that way for a sustained rate against top tier competition.

St. John's is a rare Pitino team that is top 10 that I could see losing in the 1st/2nd Rd simply if they face a team who can play a zone and get a crowd who decides to cheer for the underdog/influences the whistle. They shoot 30% from 3 and rely on getting away with physical play that won't be allowed for Tournament games. Now they get to Newark--they'll get a friendly whistle but likely face Duke and that size/skill combo would bomb them and they'd need to make shots which I just don't see happening.

And went to Final Four at Providence with Billy Donovan at guard

I SMDH when people don't acknowledge the title Rick Pitino won at Louisville. If you really wanna split hairs, he won it, and it was later vacated. But make no mistake, Rick Pitino won an NCAA title at Louisville.

I think its funny that the two second tier coaches that people on this board wanted has the best chance to win a title this year.

Pitino
Pearl

By the way, tier 1 coaches most people wanted after Cal left were Hurley, Oats and Scott Drew. The only one out of that is potentially Oats.

This is not a knock on Pope at all so don't please take it as my intention.

That said, if Pitino was here with who has has at St. Johns, or Pearl was here of who has at Auburn and had their record right now. That would be insane. I want Pope to succeed. He is truly one of us. I think 90% of us here want to see him improve and get guys who can play in the SEC. If he can do that he's on the right track.

I just find these things interesting

Pretty much the whole sport. Do I personally think he is? No, not after all the cheating and preferential treatment they got. But when the greatest coaches are listed by the media and casual fans, his name is at the top of the list, unfortunately.

I am not a Pitino fan. I have seen his team play 3 games this year, 2 against UConn. I am very impressed with his team. This may be his best coaching job. I can see why he stated that he will not recruit another high school kid. He is absolutely great at evaluating players that go to the transfer portal. He started with nothing this year and now has one of the best teams in the nation. Congrats to him.

I don't think they can win it but, when considering who the winning coach would likely be if they don't win it, I guess I'd have to root for St. John's if they were in the title game against anybody but Kentucky.

And yes. It also means Duke, Kansas, UofL, an SEC team, Uconn, UNC, etc didn't win it.

Heck being from the Northeast.. theyd probably be my 2nd team to root for.
If we don't win it all, why do we really care who wins? Serious question.
