I think the entire reason for bringing Gran on as an analyst was to learn the McVay system. Plus he was unemployed and we were paying him anyway. But if Gran could learn that offense, and I don’t think he can in a year, he might be his replacement. Maybe that was the thought process behind that? Stoops knew Coen wouldn’t be here more than two years and he could plug and play the same offense with Gran?

Doubt it. How often has a fired OC came back and OC’d at the same school? Fans would melt down.

Or any coordinator.

Gran was hanging up ridiculous numbers every where he’s been. The reason he was brought back is two fold:,
1.) Stoops was the reason he ran the ball all the time behind the Big Blue Wall and he knew it.
2.) EG was pursued in 18/19 by this years National Champs for OC because he’s that good. Without him UK doesn’t set records running LBjr every play.

I’d rather have him than honest Bob the motercycle Stud , who made the neck brace look like a fly a$$ turtle neck Petrino.

I'd rather have you, me or any random poster on this board than Petrino. Petrino is a program killer. He's left every job behind him in ruin.

I really don’t think UGA ever pursued Gran in any meaningful way.

Very poor QB recruiting and play with Gran. His top transfer QB transferred to a non-P5 program last year and was a backup. His only OC experience was at a non-P5 program at one of the most talent rich programs in their conference. At UK you are not bringing superior talent to every game and Gran never seemed to adjust and be able to out scheme elite Defensive coordinators with more talent. We won in spite of our offense, not because of it.

The whole UGA interest was a sham. No way UGA goes with a run only coordinator at a time when their fans where throwing a fit because their offense stunk.

Think we'd need another guy who runs the same or similar scheme. I would guess that Korn would run the Clemson system or si.ilar and I don't think that's the wide zone/McVay system. CU relies a lot on QB runs and that's not what our system does, although WL was effective running the ball. I just don't want to revert back to run first type of scheme.

Hell with the roster UK has coming in any guy can call plays next year. I think Stoops has his choice in mind already because he can see what's coming and he's not gonna derail the momentum he created. Maybe Coen his happy and content at the moment.

I’m not saying Gran played no part but at the same time the guy came in throwing the ball all over the first half of the first game then after losing barker and taking l’s they went to grind it out melt clock ball. That was on Stoops but I think it gran also felt like it was the best chance to win with the personnel. The problem is it fed on itself and at some point there was just no skill recruiting to run anything else. So he had to be sacrificed to change the narrative. I don’t think he can be oc again, at least not this soon, because the recruiting narrative would go right back to ‘they only run the ball’ and we don’t have enough depth of skill guys to show otherwise at this point in future years.

I think the UGA offer was co-oc but I could recall incorrectly. He wasn’t mr creative with the passing game but he was with his running plays and how they blocked them. At some point we had to have a pass game.

Right,... I bet when they OFFERED HIM THE JOB they never did it by signing telegram or an airplane flying a banner- or having Justin Timberlake offer the job by Cameo. Probably just a phone call saying will you take this position or something like that so yeah far less meaningful.

But if anyone thinks Eddie Gran would lie about the offer , I don’t think they know much about the man.

They absolutely offered him. Noone disputes that. The only dispute was for what position. UK insiders said it was for OC and even had the dollar figure. UGA said it was TE coach, which he'd never coached anywhere tmk.So it seems pretty clear what the offer was.

Lame take. Gran needs to beat it. There’s a reason he was canned and we will have a mass defection if that guy is brought back into the fold. I highly doubt btw that coen goes anywhere

Okay Mrs. Gran.

The only spot UGA had open was the TE spot. James Coley was already the OC, he sucked and lasted 1 year, was demoted and left for A&M. The only slot open was for a TE coach. But no one here wanted to believe that, it was UGA tried to steal UK's OC, who they didn't like. And he said no to UGA.

We didn't want to believe it because it wasn't true. We even know the details of the deal. Pretty clear the plan was to hire gran and demote coley.

Now maybe they had to hire him as te coach while processing coleys demotion, then move him up. So the official initial job offer was TE coach. That's entirely possible. But the true position he was being hired for was oc.

Their OC has accepted the HC position with the Vikings next season.
Which is why the Rams and Vikings OC positions are on my radar regarding Coen. Coen worked under new Vikings head coach in 2020. Don’t know what kind of relationship they had.

How do you go from OC at UK, get offered OC at GA to getting fired at UK and now nobody wants you so you come back to UK as a whatever position he was hired for?

Timing. Remember at that point, iirc, it was after he'd just installed 3 offenses in one single season. One for Terry (who looked good before injury), one for Sawyer Smith, and one for Lynn Bowden. Alot of fans don't appreciate exactly what level of genius it takes to install offenses on the fly and have them work well. Its just insane.

When he left here, all indications were a mutual split to let the program get a fresh face, for fans and recruiting. Sadly many fans really focused alot of vitriol his way, when it should've been focused on the worthless hinshaw and on the completely putrid performance of Wilson. Especially considering Gran coached the second half of that last season on his own after the Mizzou game. The offense was such an albatross in recruiting, they were in a vicious cycle, there really needed to be a change given the level of interest in the position
