The back cuts to the basket?. I thought Pope's offense ran a lot of backdoor and motion when the opponent took the 3 away.

I was a little disappointed with some of Pope's in-game decisions.
Also afraid this game will be the template for how to defend us the rest of the year.

The offense didn’t account for the physicality. Clemson took everything from us. Kind of like a receiver getting knocked off his route. They controlled every facet of the game. I was really disappointed at our lack of hustle at times. They seemed to get every 50/50 ball and were the first ones on the floor. I thought we looked and begged for fouls too much. Just play. Match their physicality.

His offense as I understood it was a lot ball movement, off ball screens, open lanes, and back cuts.
I agree for the most part but when we tried matching physicality we mostly got hit with a whistle. Oweh and Butler battled foul trouble all game…and early foul trouble means you either sit or have to play a little more timid and careful to not give the stripes a reason to hit you w another.
I still don’t believe this team is running the offense like pope wants them to. It will get better with time
Clemson's coach is good. His players are scrapers. His game plan took away our ability to get clean looks from behind the 3 point line. Pope didn't really adjust during the game. The overplay on our passing lanes and three point shooters just begged for some hard cuts to the basket as a counter. But, didn't see many.
Part of the problem is for the most part we're simply not a fast team. I'm sure the execution will get better as the year goes on, but if you watch BYU games from last season they were just so much sharper running the zoom action. And Khalifa was a true passing big man who could really capitalize off of good cuts.

The system requires players to be able to dribble out of screen. We have a bunch of players, that have a hard time, when pressured to keep the ball under control... Robinson has to consistently push off to cover up his poor dribbling. Carr, when backing up, dribbles to far away from his body, and to high. Brea just struggles to dribble more than a few feer and if it's a hard cut... It's most likely a turnover. Oweh dribbles to far in front of him, and to high, palms the ball alot going left or right. Williams does not keep the ball tight.. He dribbles to far to the right when he backs up... Leaving him open to get stripped... Butler is the only one with really good handles, but struggles some games with finishing... Kerr can dribble. But he is not a threat to drive and finish... There is a reason, that most of the players where to lower tier schools... I'm not mad though... Pope made this roster in a few months.. Come year 3 or 4, will be the real test as he gets the players he really wanted, and the get a year or two in the system.
Yeah I thought so too but we haven’t really seen that much at all this year. It’s all on ball screen and roll and double screens with cutters going different directions
And then in crunch time it just became iso calipari ball. That was the most disappointing part tonight, not just that we lost but that we weren’t even fun to watch.
He played as many minutes as he should have tonight imo. He was getting punished inside
Agree . I would like to see the plus minus of Butler and Krissa . Looked like a real drop off to me .

If he doesn't start boxing his man out, rebounding, and hitting open 3's, that probably won't happen.
I think he played his zoom action excessively especially with players that cannot make the correct read or create their own shot. If you are going play by running plays we need to alternate so we can keep the team guessing.

However , he thinks we went to small ball in the first half too much and he over protected Carr and Butler in first half from getting the third fault. Otherwise he pointed out same things were noted by everyone, playing hero ball, not moving the ball, it playing physical , getting outrebounded, etc….
Eventually , he did say that Kentucky is everyone’ s Super Bowl , which confirmed that we watched a game coached by Calipari.

That IS his offense. Unfortunately not alot of that was going on tonight. Alot of his guys got pushed around , bodied and kept of their spots. I shudder to think what happens if we don't fix that before we play Auburn ot Tennessee
Sad to say but kriisa is vastly inferior to butler in a half court game. This killed us over and over. How many first round picks on this team? Pretty easy to count. Pope is a great coach but his options are limited till the talent level improves. Until we start getting more consistent scoring inside our perimeter will be flooded with close defenders.
