If Bulls win today, look for the rumors to start up again

Imo, Cal isn't going anywhere and retire here. If he doesn't? Life will go on and UK will have to hire a coach. Will he be as good as Cal? No way. But there is no use worrying about something you don't have any control over. Every year we continue to have Cal is gravy.

Whoever loses this series that team will have a coach on the hot seat. Cleveland, Chicago, or a team up north if he goes anywhere. But, he's not, that's the great news!

I've thought from the beginning of our recruiting issues this season this is the exact reason we have seen trouble. It's not the stupid platoons that everyone keeps crying about. It's the NBA, and the problem is cal will not fully close the door. I bet the negative recruiting was geared way more towards that than the platoons.

Matt jones you may not steal this info and post it as you new "source". ;)

I think it may have been a combination of the two but, until Cal fully smashes the NBA talk for good it will always be there

between his recruiting recently for 16-17 and his mission statement about no platooning moving forward, i definitely get the feeling cal isn't going anywhere. yeah anything could happen. including him retiring at uk.

i think most of felt a few years ago that he would probably one day return to the nba, even if just for a couple years late in his career. i'm not so sure anymore. it's quite possible he might have left already if he had 2-3 titles here. then again, before he ever coached a game at uk he made the "maybe catch ucla" comment.

I too don't think Cal is going anywhere but, you never know. But, I believe his comment about no more platooning was a very good sign.

There was more to this recruiting year than just an "off year". I do think location played a factor with this group, but the NBA stuff probably had a good effect on this class. How anyone couldn't see that is baffling to me.

Calipari can say "I'm not going pro ever and thats the end of it" and then change his mind just as fast as he can say "memphis is where I want to be" and change his mind. Both can be true for the time and he's not a liar because he changed his stance due to the right situation. That's not why coaches split hairs. It's for his contract, and that's fine. But when you dance with NBA teams in the off season, and then don't close door completely, don't be suprised when you start missing on recruits who might think they could be a two or rven three year player. Those kids are not going to play for a coach that they feel could really be gone in a year or two when they can play for a coach that has a good track record who's for sure staying put.

Cal has been at UK long enough now to be able to leave without he huge backlash he would have gotten had he left in '10 or '11. Couple that with the fact that he has his chanpionship, NBA teams really want him more than ever, and we know for a fact he considered leaving last year, and this is an easy one. Some of you are so terrified at the thought of cal leaving you won't allow an objective point of view that doesn't fit anthing other than Cal is 100% "my way". I think if cal stays at UK another 3 years we are damn lucky. Every year we have him I'm grateful because I fully understand and remain aware at all times it could be the last. Cal is a risk taking alpha male competitive high level manager, leader, and coach. You start thinking you understand these guys based on some faulty perspective on his words and you'll get burned.

So if that's how 3rex feels I guess we agree on something. But calling me names because I see something you obviously have trouble with is absurd.

lol,lol...I really did not know that calling you 3rex was paramount to "calling me names"

lol . Blatt tried to call a timeout tonight when he didn't have any, time game. People wouldn't be so sure about his future if the refs would have seen it. Praise be to Tyrone Lue

I think if Tyronne Lue had been doing his job, Blatt would've never attempted to call the time out. In every huddle I've ever been in, late in the game especially, an assistant coach sticks his head in the huddle at some point & says, " we've got X amount of timeouts left guys." And that is for the head coaches ears & benefit as well.

As for the Cavs job, I think if they think about it, they've get the perfect type coach...one that they won't have to pay huge $$$ and is seemingly fine with Lebron being the de facto coach of the team.
Cal, and other successful coaches like him, may be "players coaches," but that doesn't mean they would sit back & allow Lebron to project himself as the real coach, or throw them under the bus as he did Blatt with his "I scrapped the play" comment.

Lets see, coach a max 40 games a year in college. Coach 120 games in the NBA incl playoffs. Make $8 million coaching at UK. Make $8 million coaching an NBA team. (thats if one will pay that). Few NBA teams will. The coach of the Atlanta Hawks had a huge season. First 60 win season for them. He has made what most seem to think were some unforced coaching mistakes in the playoffs. He was the Coach of the Year in the NBA and some want to run him out of town. Take the Cavs for example. Lebron has bad mouthed the coach a good bit of this season. Labron has though taken credit for every win to date. Does that sound like something Cal is going to put up with? Cal is a god here and he knows it. Great lifestyle and does in fact have the opportunity to help these kids. He will be here till he decides to park the plane.

When UK wins, Cal toots his own horn but when they lose he throws his players under the bus. Sounds like Cal and LeBron are a match made in heaven.

Yeah RIGHT. Cal has spent the last five years saying that what he does best is let the players run the show. He's perfect an NBA team with James on it.

Thibodeau to New Orleans, Fred Hoiberg to Chicago, John Calipari to Cleveland. Blatt to Orlando. TBD to Phoenix to replace Hornacek after he leaves to take the Iowa State job vacated by Hoiberg.

I'm able to understand meaning behind words. Using 3rex there was the same as calling me a cal basher essentially. That's how he's perceived around here. 3rex will tell you himself I don't agree with his stance on calipari and we've had rounds before. Just because I see the reality that is right in front of your face and you don't doesn't warrant you calling me a name that's synonymous with cal bashing. This is the kind of stuff that makes this board impossible to come to any sort of conclusion.

My main points were about Cal, the NBA, And recruiting. using platoons as a reason as to why cal whiffed and whiffed badly is taking the bait. It makes cal fans feel better thinking something insignificant was the main reason. Of course, it takes very little brain power to understand what the real reason is, but KSR knows that's not the business's standard. CAL HAS 100 hours to OFFER ME but I'm saying no because IM TOLD HES PLATOONING!!!!!

Give me a break. That should have been a clear giveaway to some that jones is completely FOS. And it should be a clear giveaway that cal needs to worry less about his agent and contract and more about this job and recruiting. We aren't in a position to miss recruits. Not with this system.

that's really what my point is. I don't think it warrants an attack.

Maybe, maybe not. Looks like we'll find out on at least the Chicago/New Orleans part very soon. Chicago's offense was PATHETIC against the Cavs. They couldn't score with Love out for the series, Irving out for the entire 2nd half and Thompson on the bench with ice bags on his shoulder. Whether they are right or not, Hoiball has to sound like a good option for them. Especially if they can get him an assistant coach that knows how to coach defense.
