..One that wins every game. So you read that and think, This dude needs drug testing. There's no way you can do that. Well, everybody tells me it can't be done, so that's my dream. I want to go 40-0; it's my dream, so it's perfectly rational." (p.102)
Bounce Back by John Calipari with David Scott, September 2009

I think it can and will be done. I hope John Calipari is the one who does it first and hopefully at UK. This is why I hold on to the 40-0 talk. That book came out during his first season with the Cats and the last season with my mom and dad. It helped me Bounce Back and I want the 40-0 for my dreams too. 5 years ago during this week I said my last words to my dad. "The Cats won dad. 17-0. I'll see you in the morning." I saw my father in the morning but only to confirm that he was dead. Well dad 5 years later we are 17-0 and I miss you every day.

2 years ago this week I lost my mom. It still seems like just yesterday. I am also hoping the cats can stay unblemished through the season.

Yeah man sorry for your loss. My mom passed away 2 days before my dad. I miss them both. Both of them went to UK. I was born blue.

Cal,has came close three times. 96 umass. 07 memphis. 12 UK.

He was very close all three times. Memphis was the closest besides UK. He lost to ut. And lost the championship by playing not to lose in the last two minutes

2012 a buzzer beater and a loss in sec championship

Real close. Crazy thing about it is that his dream was 40-0 not just the National Championship. He wrote this before we won in 2012.

He knew it was possible if he could get through. The conference undefeated. He has come close three times

I wish I could tell you you'll get over it, but that'd be a lie. My dad's been gone 29 years. Not a day goes by. It's a part of life.

As for 40-0 call me still skeptical. The bottom line is this. If we go 39-0 and get beat, or undefeated and get beat anywhere in the NCAA it will be the most devastating loss in UK history. IMO this is our best team. Other UK teams have had guys who are at least arguably better at any of the positions, but together this is probably the best shot anyone's had at 40-0. I'd just rather lose one before the tourney and get it over with. If UVa drops a couple we could very well lose one and still be #1.

Boulder, sorry for your loss.
When you say I just want to get it over with, you are assuming defeat. Never assume defeat, never.

I don't know. I think I would rather go into the tournament with the chance. You are either good enough to win it all or not regardless. Witcha State could have dropped one before the tourney and still lost to us or down the road. Nobody would have remembered them had they dropped a meaningless conference game on the road. I want a shot at history. We will get number 9 sooner or later but that perfect season is something worth chasing.

if we can make it to the NCAAT i like our chances
once the NCAAT starts every team is playing not to lose
each team has the same pressure regardless of their regular season record

we are 17-0 we still have a chance albeit a small chance, acording to Vegas a 40% chance
until we lose a game hope is alive

the SECT worries me the most

Make no mistake, I want that to. What I want more is that national title. My eye is on the prize. Right or wrong it's the way teams are ultimately judged. Imagine if UK had beaten Florida in the title game last year. That 21-0 and 3 wins over us wouldn't have mattered.

Yep, I'd say Cal can smell it... that close 3 times with 3 different teams in 3 different decades... is pretty damn impressive.

He needs a new dream: "Before I retire, I'd like to go 40-0 and win the championship in back-to-back years."

Now what food is it that makes you have crazy dreams?

You will never completely lose her, I lost my Grandad and Grandmom in the space of three months in 1987 and am lucky to still have my mom and dad 90 and 88 not a day goes by that I don't think of them or what they would say in a certain situation. I am sorry that you no longer have her in the flesh, but her memory will linger as long as you live.

I agree. The best goal to have is to break UCLA's 88 game streak.

then i hope coach cal has a lot of 39 - 1, loss coming in regular season. for a very long time before he gets his 40-0. ;-)

This season will probably be the one where he will have his best shot at it, but it is a very difficult thing to achieve.

If Towns and Johnson continue to bulldoze their way through the opponent's interior lines the ways they have these last few games, I think Kentucky could see it happen this year. All UK truly lacks right now is interior consistency, and those two have been playing with a chip on their shoulder.

I think if UK picks it up on the low block, there's truly no way to stop them offensively. It's kind of a scary thought and really comes down to how much time Johnson and Towns are putting in as far as polishing their skills is concerned.
