-Pitt transfer, 3.9 GPA student, 2 years elligibility remaining and can play immediately.
-6'8", 210lbs, can play 2 or 3 spot. averaged 11.9 points, 4.5 rebounds, 41.5% 3 point shooter.
-from Cal's hometown, and father played at Pitt from '88-90, where Cal was an assistant from '85-88.

sounds like just what UK needs.

Me too.He would fit in perfectly with Cal's style of play and give us some experience. It would be hard to understand if Cal doesn't pursue him.

Sounds good, but with that size, it's hard to see him playing the 2. And we are very crowded at the 3 and 4 spots, assuming we get Bamba and nobody leaves.

i assume Bam and Briscoe are gone. versatility is nice. i don't know much about his game, but if he can handle the ball, and especially the fact that he can shoot the 3, it might work out well.

Johnson was a 2-star and only had other low major offers. Probably a guy that nobody on UK's staff has any clue about before announcing he was leaving. Hopefully they take a look.

He is listed on ESPN roster as a "G".
To play the 2G you need to be able to do 2 things.
1) make 3's (78/188 = 41.5% = [thumb2])
2) defend 2G's, meaning having adequate quickness
So if he can defend 2G's then he can be a 2G.

31 steals to only 38 TOs

I like what I see!!! Let's get him!

Good info. I'm in. Sounds perfect, so I wonder why it hasn't happened yet.

Cam also scored 24 vs UNC in a 2 point loss in Chapel Hill...

That said he only scored 3 vs Duke and Lousyville held him to 2 and 3 points...

He played SG all year, Pitt started 3 other forwards.

This tells me he has solid college potential the next 2 years, but not NBA caliber after one year. No 6'8 guard that is very solid gets by the NBA.

Agree OP. The most important thing that he would bring is not being just 18 years old. Couple that with his ability to shoot and he is much needed. He and Diallo would be interchangeable at the 2/3.

I think Johnson would be a backup plan for Knox. No way is Cal going to take him if he thinks he still has a shot at Knox.

Cal has railed against grad transfers. I doubt they seriously consider this kid.

NO!!!! He has railed against the process that allows grad transfers. He has also "railed against" the NBA rule that allows OAD, but he has certainly recruited lots of those.
Cal has pointed out he doesn't like schools taking (recruiting) kids away from their teams, especially the mid-majors. This kid has already said he's gone, AND PITT is not a mid-major.

I do want him bad as well. He and Vanderbilt as our 2 SF would be insane. Add him to Bamba and Smith or Barker and this class might be Cal's best if you count Diallo which I do.

This class won't hold a candle to the class we just watched this season. Not a single recruit will be near a monk, fox, or bam.

Young was 6'6. While he's more of an SG, he wasn't horribly out of position ala Briscoe this year.
Fair point. Reason though Young doesn't stick out in my mind is because he didn't contribute much other than scoring. Not as bad of being out of position as Briscoe, but still was more in the mold of a 2 like you stated.

No negative comments allowed. Wait and See.

Don't want to be negative, but there needs to be a balance here. Suggesting this class will be cals best is so far outside of reality it needed to be addressed. It will be a very good class and we'll be competitive next season. It will not be the best class ever and we won't be the best team in the country.

The '17 class is weaker overall than the '16 class.

However, it remains to be seen how good the field is. If most of the top talent bolts from this past year, it levels the playing field for us. Still, the prospect of us cutting the nets without some of the veterans returning to lead the way, aren't great.

if anything we could still be really good in '17, have multiple freshmen come back, get another top class (w/ Zion Williamson???), and be dominant the following year.

Stats sound good, the big question is can he defend? If he can I would think he'd have a long line of power 5 schools after him.
Can he attend another ACC school? If yes, ricky p will be after him.

Except for the whole improved front court small forward thing.

I agree quality wise it may not be his best but could be the most deep team we've had in awhile other than the platooning team.

screw the defense.......can he shoot

lack of scoring ability has cost UK at least 2 titles since Cal has been here.......the WVU 0 for 30 3 pointers & then the dry spell against Wi during the perfect season

it also hurt against unc this year.....after being up 5 & then going on a scoring drought

Add 2011 as well vs UConn

33% from the field
33% from 3
33% from the line

UNCheat won it this year shooting .355 from 3. We shot .353. Played them twice, we won by 3, they won by 2.

Shooting is important, but it's not the only thing, which I sometimes get the impression is the accepted wisdom here.
