I think Cal's about to make a mistake...

I don't criticize Cal much(he probably knows just as much about coaching as I do) but I think if he lets this team go home for X-mas like he usually does it could cost us later in the season. There's a LOT of work to be done and I don't really think they need to be taking 4-5 days off. Especially when most of these kids are about to experience Christmas every day for the rest of their lives if they're smart about those NBA paychecks.

That's a ridiculous statement. Some things are more important than winning another game or two. Contrary to some UK fans, there is life beyond basketball.

Spending time with your families is a lot more important than a stupid game. I'm sorry if that offends anyone on here, but a small minority of you are so obsessed with UK basketball you think these people are not human beings and do not have lives. I can promise everyone that if our guys take off for Xmas it won't 1. Cost them the UL game 2. Cost them any game this season. 3. Cal still has his Camp Cal that they will do.

If the OP's goofy ass works Xmas day all day and anyone that agrees with him (thankfully skimming the thread I saw NO ONE agree. Bravo!), then I might consider this. I mean all day Xmas too, and Xmas even, make them 16 hour days OP. Do you accept? I doubt it. Coward.
Coward, huh? Another genius who takes the mildest criticism I've ever seen posted and turns it into some personal crusade against the possibility that a UK basketball player may ever see a member of his family again. Bravo. As for your personal comments I've worked plenty of Christmases as I suspect anyone who has ever worked has at least a couple times. But then again we are talking about a person who almost 21,000 posts to this board in 4 years. 5,000 posts per year. Who has time for that other than some fat slob living in his mother's basement so I won't take your assessment of my work habits too seriously. Imbecile.

If I were you, I would cal Coach Cal up and tell him not to let the players go home. Maybe they should work out a double session on Sundays too

Or someone who has the ability to type 90 words per minute...so typing up posts at my desk at work is not something that takes much time. And if you work on Xmas, good for you Scrooge. The players should not have to do so just because you demand it. It won't cost them jack, and no, most people do not work on Xmas. It is the one day where almost everything is closed, unless you work at Waffle House or some crap like that. If so, get to flipping the waffles son.

Yep thundercat, this is exactly what I was thinking. Calipari PROBABLY knows as much about coaching? Ha! Ya think?

The idea that giving the players time to go home at Christmas will ruin the season is ridiculous.

Lob - FWIW I thought the you knowing as much as Cal or he knows as much as you comment was sarcasm.

Now that that's out of the way - I must respectfully disagree. We have several weeks and several games of practice before Christmas week - and, it seems to me, everyone seems to think they get a whole week or more off. It's actually more like 3 days- sometimes four. It hasn't seemed to hurt in years past - and I honestly think it helps to have those few days off. There are some things Cal does/not does I disagree with, this is not one of those things.

I think part of it is a trade off. Cal gives them off but then when they get back Camp Cal starts with 3 a day practices.

If Kentucky loses to Louisville it won't be because they took a few days off for Christmas, and if it does cause them to lose the game, it's a sign of much larger problems.

And family > anything else. There's no guarantee any of these guys make it to the next Christmas.
exactly

Cal has said for a while now that we're soft, and we've got a long way to go. He knew these issues existed.

If seeing it come out against UCLA changes his practice plan--he wasn't being honest.

Taking off time for Christmas has worked out pretty well I would say. And whether it has or not, it is the right thing to do for these players. The tunnel vision of some fans ( not just UK fans) is pathetic.

I'm not worried about it for me, it's their season and ,slightly marginally, careers down the road that will be effected and barely noticeably from a career standpoint. I'm not saying we'll tank this year but if we did I wouldn't get worked up over it, we'll win again and I'll be here for those. These kids come in here saying THEY want to win a championship, I think these 4-5 days could help them better if they stayed on campus. They'll be where they're going to be headed by the second week of February either way. It may cost us a couple games in the early SEC weeks and with that a spot or two in the NCAA seeds, that could make a difference or maybe not. I did not think the word "mistake" would bring on such calumny(there's a good word)

I've never worked Christmas Day, and some of these players might have to PLAY GAMES on Christmas as soon as next year.

So yeah, I'm going to have to go ahead and ask the original poster to leave the premises.
