In the early 70s his teams started a downward trend and he came to the realization that he had to modernize his offense to adapt to the times or get left behind.

Thus he installed the triple option which was cutting edge for the times.

If one of the greatest coaches of all can adapt then why won’t Stoops?

Stoops is just who he is. What he is NOT is a great coach.

Things are cyclical…a big brand program with high end athletes will adopt a variation of option football and win big again sooner rather than later

He did a little more than that. He convinced Bama to let him recruit and get black athletes after USC came to Tuscaloosa and beat them.

He did and he did it over the Summer between Spring practice and Fall practice. Pretty amazing.

You can criticize the results, but Stoops is not stuck in his ways. He tries to adapt.
We started with Neal Brown and the air raid.
Eddie Gran brought the RPO.
Levis the pro style multi level.
The main problem is talent.
We've had great running backs and mediocres qbs and receivers.
You do have to adapt to the talent or lack there of.
I think we were prepared to be a slinging team.
But our o line is awful and we have a coordinator that doesn't know how to work with it.
But I'm sure we'll see an attempt to course correct again.
