We lose a basketball game, and these "fans" use it as aan opportunity to bash football. This Son of Saul guy takes the cake.

NIL, as much as I hate it, is for real and we need money spent on our biggest money maker

I think if basketball keeps losing it's probably good for the fb program. Having both the major players failing would send Barney packing and that is a positive.

You have 85 scholarships to fund in football not considering any payments you might make to PWOs, you have about 12 in basketball. It really shouldn't be that hard to get what you need for the basketball program, the previous coach certainly didn't have problems getting elite players. The problem with basketball is not NIL it's one and done. You pay for top talent and what does it get you? talented but inexperienced players that look great most of the time but can't stand up in a tourney.

The SEC is a football conference, if your not prioritizing football you're going to get labeled as a loser program and laughed out throughout the conference. Basketball does not need to leach from football to succeed and trying to blame football for any inadequacies in basketball is short sighted and petty IMO

I'm hoping that guys mindset isn't pervasive over there. BOT attitudes like that are why we've been so bad.

Tag me if you want to call it out.

I’ve been on this board for 20 years. I post religiously during football season as well . I walked on at UK for football and was a practice dummy for a season. I’ve given sweat to the program. It’s why I said I know it isn’t a popular opinion.

Facts are facts. In this new age (as it is currently not considering any future salary cap type changes), hard decisions are going to have to be made by small market programs if you don’t have a mega donor base. We can be average in both and hope to maintain top 30 in both sports or we can put an emphasis on our traditionally superior program that is the University’s flagship, that is the more affordable sport due to less roster positions which means the smaller pot of money goes further and is easier for a small market/donor base to keep up w the big money schools.

Nobody is claiming to want to bankrupt the football program. But we can maintain our 7-8 wins which is over achieving historically and still hope for a “everything clicks” season once in awhile with the right systems and player development (Josh Allen, Cobb, CRod, Benny Snell etc were all developed 3 star types)…we aren’t going to outbid the historical powerhouses in our league anyways…not enough to build a whole 2 deep roster at the level to become a football power.

So unless you’d rather be a 10-25 program in football and get outbid for the top recruits in basketball by Carolina, Kansas, Duke, etc when 2-3 guys can be the difference in a title team or just a solid top 25 E8 program. Then that’s your prerogative. I’d rather make sure the sport we’ve historically been on top of is still the pinnacle and can financially compete with anyone and then make sure football is adequately competitive as well. It essentially comes down to where you want to move an additional 5-10% that’s earmarked football over to basketball rn. Not half the budget or something crazy

Well, half of them won't come over here because they're usually cheering for an entire different team during football season.
You mean cheering for the sports that are currently in season being played by the University they support while keeping tabs on recruiting or the minimal off-season headlines for the out of season sport ? Yeah, that’s pretty standard

Classic. Why does the Football program need to get blamed everytime the basketball team loses? It's so bizarre.
No one is blaming it. Finds aren't unlimited. It’s about prioritization and allocation.

If we weren’t historically a top 3 program in basketball then it’s an entirely different convo and a no brainer to follow suit and have the college athletic industry standard ration between the sports. But we are a top 3 team and if you want to maintain that then you have to make sure the program can win any bidding war they choose to fully engage in first and foremost. We are talking the difference of 5ish% of the budget flip flopping.

Then leave the SEC and join some weakass conference and let Gonzaga, St. Bonaventure and Bradley become your rival games instead of Florida, South Carolina and Tennessee, because if that's your attitude you're a joke program to the other 15 teams in the SEC

If that becomes the MO then Kroger stadium will become a ghost town, no one will even care to watch UK on TV. Lost revenue will be in the 10s if not 100s of millions to the athletics department. We'll see how good basketball does then. ;)
