There is no question Rick's actions prove that he's always thought of himself as bigger than UK, bigger than UofL, and bigger than the state of Kentucky. Why would he leave for millions and then return to coach at Louisville? He expected to be embraced by UK fans and may have expected them to start cheering for the Cards. How else could he stand brazenly admitting his sex on a public restaurant table and paying for an abortion without blinking or showing remorse? It's all about Rick in his mind. That's how he can walk out of the arena flipping the bird to the program and fan base that MADE him. How else can he expect to be able to do whatever he wants and just expect UL to deal with it? How else can just skip out on press conferences after losses and expect everyone to just keep their mouths shut about it? It's all about Rick.
There's always going to be the "what if" he had stayed at UK instead of leaving for the pros. We can only speculate on the number of titles he would have had here. I'd say several with the success he was already having. We'll never know, but in his own words, leaving was his worst mistake of his life. His ego got the better of him.

No he wouldn't have. What a myth. No one can do what Wooden did. Cal can't do it and he has the best recruiting classes year in and year out most of the time. Pitino might have won another couple titles....but no way he would have put on a run like Wooden. Coach K has not even done that.

FWIW, back in the late 70's and early 80's I too met Mr. Newton, and spoke a little bit to him from time to time. He struck me as a hell of a nice guy; no arrogance at all.
who I am is not important..CM and I have been friends for years.I worked for Bill Keightley while in school.He was best Man at my wedding.The poster called me out and I have verifiable proof.Plain and simple..Anything else is verbage..and you are correct CM is a class act..easy to talk to..

I can confirm the story as CM told me the same thing a year after Ricky P left. I have known CM since I was 16...I am now 47.
Just meet at the old center court circle outside Rupp during a future home game and settle this thing. I'm sure someone from this board will be glad to "referee" the deal and post photos. Easy peasy.
