I hope we get Garrison back next year.

That smile on his face after the layup high off the glass from a Butler feed, made my day. He has the motor and the athleticism. I would like to see him bulk up and work with someone in the off-season to add a couple of moves to his repoitoire.
He certainly has work to do to be a dependable starter but, I agree with you —- he does have the tools. Needs to put on weight, do film study all summer, keep working on that jumper and take post defense personally.

I don't know....he only scores on easy paths to rim and an occasional 3pt shot (and he is only shooting 30% from deep...so not exactly a sniper ). Garrison ability to score back to the basket is very small IMO.....

The thought of handing him the starting C with Moreno backing him up......I'm almost more inclined to look for an Amari replacement (to which Garrison would rightfully transfer) and let Moreno back that up.

I never understood the bashing of Garrison and comparing him to Williams by some on this board. He is only a Sophomore and you can definitely see the potential. He may not end up being the passer that Williams is, but I think his offensive ceiling is higher. Williams has 3 years of experience on him.
This.

Garrison just needs some bulk. Magloire was raw as well early on, but ended up becoming one of the best big men in UK history.

Another year of strength and conditioning for Garrison, and the young man could end up being an All-SEC level performer.

Why in the world would he want to leave Coach Pope and UK????

This system was made for a kid with his skill set. He just needs to improve his strength and court awareness to be a great player here. He is extremely athletic for a Big and the other areas of his game can be molded into form.

I'm ok either way (stay or go) on Garrison. I just don't think he is good enough to be a starting C. IMO, just borderline good enough to be the backup C.
- he is a BAD rebounder!!! 3.9reb in 17.3mpg equated to 6.8 per30min, which is not good for a C.
- he is a BAD FT shooter!!! 52.4% on 42 attempts
- he is not quick, nor strong. I think he can get stronger this summer, but not sure about being quicker. So those of you saying he could be a stretch 4, NO!!! I don't think he can guard most 4's, and on offense he's not taking anyone off the dribble, and he is barely decent at shooting 3's.
- he is not a good defender

Overall offense (4 out of 10)
Shot (5 out of 10)
FTs (2 out of 10)
Passing (7 out of 10)
Rebounding (3 out of 10)
Post defense (4 out of 10)
Perimeter defense (4 out of 10)
Shot blocking (3 out of 10)

He had a pretty nice little jump hook early in this season but got away from it for some reason. Yes, I do think he can play the 4 but he didn't get much time to show it this year. Here's his transfer portal highlight reel from his frosh season at Ok St....fwiw

I agree with K_Time about his ability to score around the basket. He needs a better shot and smoother moves as well as the ability to get more rebounds (gettin in position to rebound). But I’m not a coach. Maybe with more maturity he can improve.
Don't overlook his defense - in the same possession yesterday in crunch time, he switched onto and guarded 3 different Illini players in the same possesion - locked each of them up.

That flagrant foul called on his defender for pushing him showed some maturity (I think our first game). He didn't react when he was pushed. Pope has made every player he has touched better this year. I'd expect Garrison's path to keep trending upwards. Expect great things from him going forward.

How many thought Chandler would be playing like he is of late? I think he and Garrison have very high ceilings. Maybe the highest on this team, including Oweh. Popes system puts a lot of pressure on his 5 man. Garrison will grow and will be much better next season. I think Garrison was a serviceable "project", with a ton of potential.

Wow. He is ONLY a sophomore. You try playing only 10-14 minutes per game, come in a pressure packed game and see how you do. He has won a couple games for UK this year. The talent is there, just needs a little more reps to put it together.
Just a few games he has had :
Illinois - 14 minutes - 5 points / 4 rebounds / 2 assist / 2 steals / 1 block
Troy - 16 minutes - 13 points / 6 rebounds / 2 assist / 2 steals
Gonzaga - 17 minutes - 10 points / 9 rebounds / 1 assist / 1 block. against Huff and Ike
@ Georgia - 27 minutes - 13 points / 5 rebounds / 2 assist / 2 steals / 2 blocks
Alabama - 19 minutes - 11 points / 6 rebounds / 5 assist /
South Carolina - 21 minutes - 15 points / 2 blocks
@ Oklahoma - 27 minutes - 12 points / 4 rebounds / 3 steals / 2 blocks
LSU - 21 minutes - 15 points / 4 rebounds / 3 steals / 1 block

So like I said, his numbers don't jump off the page, but when he gets ample playing time, he produces at BOTH ends of the floor. Maturity, another year in the system, and more clock, he will be a very solid big man. Not every position will average 14-15 per game. Brandon is really talented, when he puts it all together, look out !!! He was a highly rated recruit for a reason, people who know more than you and I thinks he is talented enough.

For the NCAA tournament he is averaging 15 minutes per game, 9 points / 5 rebounds / 2 assist / 2 steals. In 15 minutes per game. His per 30 mpg would be 18/10/4 and 4 steals. I would take that all day every day. But you do you.

Pope always speaks highly of him publicly. Of course Pope speaks highly of ALL his players.

I hope they all stay. I also have to realize that NIL opportunities will be everywhere...and has been stated BG transferred here without stepping foot on campus. Really strikes me as a free spirit that could go....anywhere. he certainly would help.

Been hard to watch at times, but if Pope wants him here and he wants to be here, I’m good with it. If they have a mutual parting or the ways, I’m good with that too.

Love to see players develop over the years, and I can’t deny that he’s contributed to a Sweet 16 run.

The question is can Pope find a better big in the portal. I'm not sure. If he can't than it's not the worst thing to have Garrison and Moreno splitting time there. Garrison would start but maybe Moreno can bring more offense.

He'd be a tremendous loss for us. There won't be more than 2-3 guys in the transfer portal better at his position. He sacrifices some of his own offense for the betterment of the offense(Just about everyone can always improve shot selection). He doesn't have a terrible looking 3 stroke so with time there is no reason he can't get to 36-37% out there.

I am convinced this coaching staff knows how to develop. Garrison is actually the best NBA prospect on the roster. That doesn't mean what it used to, but it does mean he has skills. Skills I think Pope and staff can develop into an SEC enforcer. That said, we will see if he stays. I hope so but you never know nowadays.

I am very excited about Garrison’s potential next year. Already in long stretches this year he has performed like a stronger (admittedly much less coordinated) Andrew Carr with more hops and I hope to see us use him more in that capacity. For a big man the biggest single perform gain is usually from the sophomore year to the junior year.
