I don’t understand….

We had effort at the beginning. When the other team can mug you but you aren’t allowed to breathe on them, it saps the effort real quick. Players get confused and play tentative because they don’t know wtf they can do or not do. That’s poor officiating and it ruins A LOT of college basketball games anymore, not just ours.
Years ago when we lost to UNC in the tournament, easily one of the poorest officiated games of all time, I stopped watching 95% of sports after that. There's VAST corruption in all levels of officiating these days!

How many air balls did we shoot last night?? I know we’re not going to make them all but my goodness can we atleast hit the rim?? And why have we stopped looking to push the ball in transition?? Started to remind me cal holding his hand up all the time, but this team is going to have to lock in defensively. We can’t score so we need to try to limit others from as well instead of making AAs out of guys.
I think Jaxson is so desperate to impress Pope, the fans or whatever that it's taking away his focus. He looks afraid to take any risks. How else do you God-awful airballs one after another? Something isn't right, and then his body language. It's not about you, Jaxson.

Our guys are playing hard. This is not an effort problem. They might not play well, they might not play smart, but they give effort. You can't guard a guy you just can't guard. I could go out there again MJ and play like my hair is on fire and he will still kill me.

We have to play as unit because the overall talent is not there individually. Sometimes the line ups are a bit puzzling but Pope is still learning this team too. These guys are finished products for the most part individually. But we are far from a finished product as a team.

We have to improve our team defense and we have to improve our defensive rebounding. This a zone team. It's just not built to guard man to man. But I would guess Pope is using zone in practice and maybe we aren't good at that either?

We have to learn to backdoor these teams that overplay the perimeter. We did against Fl so Pope knows this. Last night we couldn't make a layup either. Or we turned it over on the entry pass. Williams has some skills but no upside. Maybe just let Garrison grow into it? He does have an upside.

We have issues. But it's not effort.

The rebounding has been a constant issue. The effort on the boards needs to improve.

As far as offense and defense--I thought the effort was there. We just weren't allowed to touch Georgia and they were allowed to manhandle us.

If this continues, the SEC road games are going to be even worse than we expected--and we already thought they would be ridiculously difficult.
Manhandled is the perfect word to use. I know the refs were very poor but we definitely need a big man who won't get pushed around so easily. I thought Garrision and Williams were gonna be fairly stout but they don't seem to be able to hold their own.
I like someone who has a mean streak that just won't be shoved around. Maybe we can get someone out of the portal. Moreno ain't it. Garrison may develop?
Right now the bigs in the SEC will have their way with us.

This is not an attack on Pope or anyone.

But the one thing I didn’t think we’d have to worry about any longer is a lack of effort from our players. What has happened? Did everyone just get a big head after some gutsy wins? What has changed? Or are we just seeing a lack of talent?

The lack of effort bothers me the most. If you get beat going all out, tip your hat. But this lack of effortt and energy for a few players needs to stop.
Not always, but often, players who are not quick and athletic get easily out-quicked and it appears to be lack of effort. I cannot decide if that’s the case with Carr, Brea, Robinson and Williams, or not, but it might be. I don’t know.

Agreed. I thought we were done with beanpole freshmen being pushed around in the SEC rasslin matches. We are done with freshmen but these guys are being pushed around too.

Effort is an issue with only a couple players that I see. If you watch Robinson for example, he is a major head case. Seems like a good dude but when things aren’t going his way, we got issues. He starts to pout and move around like he just ate too many edibles and aged 60 years.

The same can be said for guys who aren’t good ball handlers. You see a guy with an opportunity to attack a close out instead turn and look for someone to pass it to on the perimeter, that looks passive but often the player lacks confidence in his ability to make the play.

No he's an outright troll. Never has anything good to say. Can always count on that purple T being followed by garbage takes.
I don't think that someone who is constantly negative is a "troll". We're all human here, some of us have a lot of things going on personally that others are unaware, and we channel things differently. I could be wrong.

Who are you and why do you feel responsible for being his mom? I don't need a moral high ground speech. Some people are just asshats and deserve to be treated as such. I see his comments and make my own opinion. He hates everything about this team and probably UK as a whole. Thanks though.

Who am I? What is this, your second or third account? I'm not his "mom", nor your's, but I do think you're going after others to try and lift yourself up. Try and raise one another up. Try being civil, and you're welcome.
