Just looking at some stuff online and read about DJ in 6th year out of Texas A&M. Remember BG refused to talk about any players fallowing him . And he had a good class coming to a&m. I know a lot of UK fans we're hoping Jordan would fallow.

Deandre Jordan wanted to come to UK with Gillispie according to many people at the time. Gillispie said he didn't think it was right to poach a player that had already committed to A&M.

Of course, 2/3's or more of this board hailed him as a saint for it, and then openly accepted a roster full of committed players 3 years later once cal showed up.

Just goes to show, fans believe what they're told to believe. If cal had said the same things Gillispie did about recruits, most would have agreed. The only player cal wouldn't accept was Wesley Witherspoon and willie kemp (IMSMR). I believe cal even tried to get Roburt Sallie from Memphis when he left but it was too much backlash.

From what I remember Cousins was committed to Memphis. Not that I care. He had every right to go wherever he wanted

One myth Memphis fans throw out is that Cal took their entire committed class.

Untrue. The only committed player that came was Dodson. Kinda wish he had stayed. Cousins had already committed to UAB and backed out. He then verbally committed to UM. But never signed. Henry went to Kansas , another kid went to Baylor and Coleman stayed and played at UM.

Wall and Bledsoe we're still being recruited by other schools including Memphis. Bledsoe took a vist the week before he committed to Uk , at Memphis.

Orton and Hood we're UK committed already.

So out of Cousins,Dodson,Wall and Bledsoe. Only Dodson used his out on his commitment agreement to follow Cal to Ky.

Spoon really wanted to follow Cal to UK. And if he had he would be in the NBA today. Pastner destroyed that talent. Sallie was already very familiar with UK. Gillespie had gone after him hard before he chose UM after leaving JC.

Sallie also would be in the NBA today had Cal allowed him to follow. Pastner did not even bring back Sallie for a 5th year. Sallie was his top shooter, with more NCAA tourny experience then most returning players in the country. Sallie was a grown man and had issues with the childish behavior of Pastner. So Pastner bounced him.

And like S@C pointed out. Gillespie shot himself in the foot by not taking Jordan before ever coaching one game at Ky.

Deandre Jordan did go in the 2nd round after 1 year.

I think he left early because Gillispie left and he didn't like playing for Turgeon.

I think had he followed Gillispie to UK he might have stayed a few years.

That said, it's ultimately worked out pretty well for Jordan. He's been one of the best post defenders in the league for the last few years now and he's making close to 20 million a year.
