i can't wait for the Duke game this year!

UK 2015 was a great team. Kenpom rates every team over the past 14 seasons and UK's score of 0.9757 is the best of any team (http://kenpom.com/index.php). In fact, only 1 team (KU in 2008 with 0.9753) is even close.

It's true that the best teams often don't win it all. And, imo, 2 things hurt UK this year: Weren't playing their best ball the last month of the season, and a really bad matchup with UW.
UK peaked in December. The Bahamas trip helped us from a learning curve perspective, but when the SOS peaked on new years, our edge dropped significantly.

If December 20th Kentucky plays in the tourney, nobody comes within 25.

It's really going to be a battle between two unknown teams. Duke will still have Amile and M. Jones, and UK will have Ulis. Everyone else is basically brand new, even Poythress.
Wow, are you dumb. Take away jefferson and Poythress and Lee have proven more than everyone else on duke's roster combined.

It's easy to win 1 game when you get 5 byes to get there. Our regional final opponent was better than every team you played in the tourney, besides Wisconsin.
O rly? San Diego State was a great defensive team, Utah had a 2016 lottery pick plus the 2015 20th pick, Gonzaga was super talented (though a touch overrated the entire year), Duke owns Sparty (why do you show up), and of course Duke beat the Badgers twice last year, including beating them on their home court, and also the team that beat the Wildcats.

UK beat a meh Cinci team (=SDSU), a meh WVU who shouldn't have gotten past the Twerps (<Utah), a very experienced ND team who took 2 of 3 from Duke (>Gonzaga), and LOST to a great Wisconsin team (>>>>>>>>>>>>>MSU, don't matter, beat them twice).

How easy was that path compared to UK's? And btw, before you bring up ND, Duke barely lost to ND in South Bend when Jerian Grant was going off, and then beat them by 30 points in Cameron. No excuse for the ACC tournament, Brey basically begged Okafor to beat them by himself, excellent gameplan.

More than Matt Jones? Lee has absolutely done nothing, and Poythress hasn't proven anything other than knowing how to lose in the first round of the NIT.

Look at who sdsu, Utah and Gonzaga beat last year. The answer is no one. One of Gonzaga's best wins was a squeaker against ucla. A team that we could have beat 95-20.

Not surprisingly, you apparently stop paying attention to the tourney the 8 out of every 10 years that duke loses the first weekend. Lee and Poythress were great against much more experienced teams during our final four run last year.

You do realize that Duke only beat UTAH (you know same school UK played for all the marbles one year) by 6 or 7 points. And only led Gonzaga by 2 with 6 min or so to go(a missed Wiltjer layup would have tied it) before absolutely locking the Zags down completely and winning by 14. This Zags team played to its seed and beat a Big 10 and Pac 10 school to get there. This wasn't the soft fraud of some past Mark Few teams. This may have been his best team at 35-3 and one of the nations best offenses.

Michigan State? Wadda ya want me to say man? Blame Tom Izzo lol

Yeah, the worst that Krzyzewski has done at Duke is losing in the first weekend 5/5 times. I don't even know what the NIT is at this point, but damn if UK doesn't know how to fail bad enough to be privileged enough to lose in it twice since the turn of the century.

Are you really going to pump up Zaga for beating Iowa and UCLA? LMFAO!

2007 duke getting a 6 seed is proof that duke will never get an nit bid without a losing record.

Lee and poythress were key players in the 2014 tournament when UK made the final four. I guess you wouldn't know since Duke lost to some no name in the first round so you probably just stopped watching the tournament.

They were 22-11, 8-8 in a strong ACC (7/12 tournament teams). Would you say that the committee gave NC State a favor in 2014 for going 9-9 in a weak ACC? No, because nobody cares about NCSU.

I know about Poythress, but Lee played the exact same role as Grayson did this year, aka flashy plays in big moments. Except Grayson has a ring.

I don't care that he has a ring. Also Lee has another shot at a championship this year. I bet you are glad that we knocked out Norte dame for you all seeing how they owned Duke. Just be sure to come back in mid November after the game.

A few exceptions in the past hour, but in general I am very happy with the way this thread has talked a really intense rivalry without any insults from either side. Only basketball analysis and an intense love for the game.

This is SO much nicer than cut-down wars with trolls.

Plenty of room to disagree with each other, but it's so much more INTERESTING to disagree with each other about basketball than about our ancestors and d--k sizes.

PLEASE let's have more of this.

One extremely close, exciting game in South Bend where Jerian Grant was hitting circus shots all game, a 30 point blowout for Duke in Durham, and a solid beatdown by ND in the ACC tournament. Brey has owned Duke, don't know what it is, would have loved to play a 7 game series against them last year.

Why wouldn't I come back after a Duke win?

You all barely squeaked out a win over our nit team with one of the better teams k has fielded in the past 10 years.

I have a feeling that Cal is going to take this one personally and it's going to be a bloodbath.

Yep, barely squeaked out a win over the most talented first round NIT loser ever. "Just wait till March" they said.
UK would have made the tournament if Noel was healthy that year and harrow was a head case. You keep bringing up that one year because all the other years in the cal era have been great. Duke still lost to Lehigh and mercer in recent history and with that current trend I wouldn't be surprised at all if Duke gets a one seed and loses to a sixteen this year. I mean you all lost to a 14 and 15 in recent years so you are getting close. Seriously Duke is a bracket buster most years because, like Kansas, they get upset a lot.

We had 8 scholarship players (noel, poythress, wcs, goodwin, wiltjer, mays, harrow, hood) and lost the best one in early february. If duke loses Okafor in early February, they might win 2 more games the rest of the year.

We lost two scholly players, including our sixth man this year, and we only got better. There is no excuse for UK not making the tournament that year in a weak (as usual) SEC. That was then, this is now, both programs are doing better.

So you lost your 6th man? We lost our best player. And you want to make comparisons?

We were 12-6 in the sec. Duke makes it with our resume.

Honest question. What's your connect I on to duke?

Being from NC and getting rejected by UNC-Chapel Hill. You see, our universities are hard to get into to, so I had to settle for two years of community college and two years of a baptist college,

Call me a bandwagon fan, it's probably your last resort because you can't handle the bantz.

Yea... I guess actual students need credentials at UNCCH.

And yes, I think you are a bandwagon fan if you started liking duke because you couldn't get into UNCCH.

Outstanding, I'm sure Lexington is fantastic. I've only been to the boonies, which reminded me of home.
I like the boonies. Reminds me vaguely of Sevier county, TN where my great grandfather is from and I spent a lot of time in my childhood.

I'm sure we'd get along in person. I just disagree with every single basketball take you've had since I started reading here tonight.

That's natural, it's sports. You a Reds fan?

Probably a lot of other jewelry too.:D

Yes, Braves/Steelers/Duke/Canes/Spurs fan. We didn't have any pro sports teams when my dad was growing up, so he just attached to the closest blue collar team he could (except he was a Yankees fan).
Well... I pretty much hate you.

I'll tell ya.. Poythress was really starting to play well during our run in 2014. During the 1st part of the season last year he was a defensive beast and was becoming the 5 star player we expected. So this is how I see it.
1. Poythress has been through a lot, he has final four experience and if he's 100% he's gonna have one hell of a chip on his shoulder.
2. Lee. 5 star forward who's shown flashes of greatness especially during the 2014 tounament. Was stuck behind Towns and WCS and is ready to blossom. He's ready to prove he can play at the next level.
3. Tyler Ulis.. The 2nd PG Cal. has had for 2 years and Ulis is much more of a true point than Andrew Harrison was. Ulis is a dynamic PG that has speed and elite court vision. He's unshakable and has final 4 experience. He will run this team like a well oiled machine.
4. We've got a compliment of players coming in that will really mesh well with the core 3. Skal and Murray will be very good right away.
I think we have an edge but it's 1 game.. Anything could happen..
