I’ve heard Shulman mention Kentucky twice today

And both times Bilas stayed mute.

During the first game, he was talking about last night’s game and mentioned Kentucky being decimated with injuries.

Just now, he mentioned Kentucky beating Florida 106-100 when healthy.

Might mean nothing. Incredibly subtle. But for a guy who runs his mouth as much as Bilas, he sure doesn’t take an opportunity to brag on us in any way.

I would think that was a natural softball to the color commentator to talk about how good we were when healthy, and that we could still make a run, or whatever.

Been watching a lot of basketball for a lot of years. It’s a television show. I don’t think his silence is accidental.

I think it’s very much like when Ravech suggested to Jimmy Dykes that Pope should be in the running for COTY, and Dykes sidestepped the pitch and immediately started talking about Pat Kelsey.

Again, could be my imagination. Obviously I’m a biased Kentucky fan who craves any discussion about our team. But I swear I’ve heard more about UNC lately the us.

Considering that we are a top brand with the biggest fanbase, and how we’ve weathered so much adversity beating 8 top 15 teams in the process, it all feels a little weird.

Truly feel like it’s us against the world.

sure beats ravich saying of a kentucky turnover, “that’s a terrible pass”. lead announcers just don’t talk like that lol. let the color guy say “bad play”. i mean, sheesh.

Glad they are giving us the respect we deserve.

I can't imagine a world where I cared enough what Jay Bilas thinks to start this thread.
It isn’t about what Jay Bilas thinks. It’s the narrative strategy of the network that writes our checks and airs most of our games. We are being relegated to the dustbin as other programs are promoted.

We only represent programming to ESPN. People sit in meetings and discuss this strategy. None of these tv talking heads are free agents. They have producers.

You are reaching. Bilas is definitely pro-UK. He has family who went to UK
I’m not reaching and I don’t care where Jay’s niece went to school.

It’s the same conversation as why didn’t Gameday come to Lexington.

We have an ESPN problem whether anyone wants to see it or not. They write us huge checks, so for the most part anyone who could affect it will look the other way.

We have an up hill battle, but I think Pope is up for it.

Wouldn't Cawood have said the same? People always said he told it like it was. I guarantee if he were calling games now like that, some of these fans would call him the Jerry Tipton of announcers.

You're definitely not wrong about that. But I can't care what ESPN has to say enough for that to matter to me either. At the end of every day there are way more important things that actually impact my life to spend tim worrying about.

yes he would have. but if the same player did something good he’d have gone out of his way to mention it. he came across positive always, and would give very good credit to the other team.

Fair enough. I’m just sitting here watching basketball in March. Gets on my nerves this time of year. I tend to spend a lot more time listening to podcasts, where we get a fair amount of coverage.

Jay has always been complimentary of UK. Picking out one time he doesn’t say something doesn’t change that. To go even further, he didn’t say anything negative about UK. He just didn’t say anything and he doesn’t have to always jump in when something is being said about UK. This is just reaching for something to be mad about.

Look, he might not have a problem with UK. But there isn't a chance on earth that he's any way "pro-UK" when we were a direct competitor of his alme mater, both during his playing years and immediately after in the 90s.

90% of posters here have some family member that went to Louisville and yet none of them are "pro-louisville", are they?

Another terrible post of yours.

I shouldn't have even commented. Was a wiseass thing to do. But I really can't stand Bilas and just wanted to make it known.

Because objectively our roster construction eventually got exposed. Ya our starters were good but you cant build a team with nothing but shooters.

Objectively the jury is out. On a per game basis, hes great though.

Bilas is a total douche. He was ESPN's point man in selling the idea UNCHEAT should get of free for 30+ plus years of the worst violations in NCAA BB history.

Really, who cares. I mean is it really important that we get upset about everything. Bilas doesn't comment and many seem to be taking it as a put down. We are moving toward being a sensitive bunch.

Disagree. If you are referring to the pass Amari threw, Cawood definitely would have said terrible pass. It was a horrible pass and u don’t try to hide it.

i didn’t say he wouldn’t have said it. i said he would have because cawood was true and positive, which is why all teams liked his call. what i did say was no other lead commentator today would say that three times a game on one team. not shulman, not nessler, neal, eagle etc. not any of them. only a color commentator would, maybe a dykes or possibly a vitale. it’s an etiquette thing, the lead guy not being as damning.

Wasn’t about 10 years or so ago that Bilas took a lot of heat from UK fans and maybe even Cal for his blatant on air homerism? I feel like after that Bilas started tone it down a bit and has been giving UK a lot more credit publicly.
