Hurley & Basketball Director in hot water?

Love how everyone is jumping the OPs sht, but it turns out part of the story is factual.

So it's not a fake story and twitter isn't all just misinfo. Got it.

When did we get so lazy that we expect everyone else to verify everything for us? When did we go from being able to Google to not being able to Google? Why do people have to tell us they are being sarcastic or joking? Why does a govt worker or office, or someone with "a checkmark" posting something suddenly mean it is actually factual?

It's a sad commentary
How exactly is what the OP posted factual?

It was on abc news this morning that UConn was being investigated. Not sure what Hurley was cussing about. The refs weren’t horrible. They let both sides beat the shit out of each other. Nothing major happened that would determine the outcome of the game. He is just a POS sore loser.
ABC news, huh? Care to post the link to that?

Yeah that's a fake reporter. Just another major issue with twitter now, just free rein for misinformation and fake stories that everyone falls for.

That being said, the SID story is apparently true. Apparently their SID really did threaten the reporter, just nothing else about the tweet is factual.

How exactly is what the OP posted factual?

According to this poster, part of it is true. I don't care either way.

I know those two titles will go a long way for any coach.. but Hurley's mouth and attitude have a real chance to combat that. Say he loses early round next year.. after another year of whining, flipping off fans, chastising the refs, the media, etc.. how much runway does he really have? It might sound silly to think a coach could only have a few years of goodwill after winning two titles.. but Hurley isn't any coach. Can't imagine a ton of recruits (or officials) were turned on by him after this season.

I would argue that a small portion of the post (the UConn communications director really did threaten the reporter) being true just muddies the water and makes the provocative mountain of lies that followed (the police are involved and Uconn is facing NCAA sanctions) that much more dangerous rather than excusing them.

Apply this scenario to matters more important than a basketball coach being a sore loser with a potty mouth, and I agree that social media is one of the most potentially destructive forces we’ve ever invented.

Anyone taking them seriously? Yes. Definitely dangerous. Grain of salt always. Just like water cooler talk

The guy is a well-known fake reporter who takes little nuggets and makes outlandish tweets about them.

The police are not involved. Nobody is investigating Hurley. UCONN's "athletic department" is not being investigated by the Raleigh police. Literally NONE of that is true. The ONLY part of it that is true is that the SID screamed at the reporter. That is the only portion of the tweet that is factual. Twitter is an absolute MESS of misinformation, and people fall for it over and over again,

Agree that social media might be the worst and most effective propaganda tool. Any idiot with an internet connection can easily spread false information worldwide without anyone to check them. Ridiculous BS used to travel slowly via word of mouth. Now it travels in real time and spreads like wildfire.

It doesn’t matter which “side” one is on, most folks are so ideologically biased they will believe anything they read that confirms their biases and will disbelieve anything that questions those same biases. It’s not unique to any worldview.

Media literacy worldwide is pretty low and only getting worse. I would say your average person can’t distinguish between real information and misinformation.
Its simple. If its online dont quote it, period.

Damn! nicely written, did not know village idiots were so articulate .
😃
When a person refers to himself or herself as an idiot, it's safe to assume they are not an idiot.
If they refer to themselves as a genius...it's 100% that they are not a genius.

Ahh, it’s my own fault. I’m usually much better than that. Was heading to bed. Saw it retweeted. Was tired so I only checked out just a couple of prior post and shared it. Figured if it wasn’t true, it would get sorted out by when I read it in the morning.(didn’t take that long, lol) Reason I usually comment in threads instead of starting them. 😂😂

Why don't you be a big boy and go look for it on your own time
Or, and this is gonna be the hard part for someone like you that evidently believes any rando on Twitter (and then defends it), you could have the self-awareness to know I already have...and it doesn't exist. Because "ABC News" didn't report anything close to UConn being investigated or anything close to that.

If only the person you responded to could have your outlook on the matter. Lol. Goodness.

Twitter sucks for stuff like this, btw. People get their kicks in some really odd ways.

I have ten years of data and polling done by very smart people who get paid lots of money.

Can't wait to see 10 years of data and polling specific to "water cooler talk" from you. Is this recent water cooler talk or from 10 years ago when people still had water coolers to stand around?

It's a message board. Don't sweat it. If people want to be outraged about something, they'll find it regardless. Some people are thin-skinned and looking for a place to make others feel bad. I've been on the UK boards for over 20 yrs and it hasn't changed much.

One day they'll moan about what you did post, next day they'll whine because you didn't summarize all of something behind a pay/firewall, then they'll btch if don't post links to something when it would take them 2 seconds to look it up themselves. That's why I left this board for a while. Lots of negs/nags.

There are some great people here, though. I may very well not be one of them according to many. Lol.

You're good buddy. If nothing else it opens the discussion again of what a tool Hurley is turning out to be. Guy is deteriorating in age as we speak. Currently at a 13 year old mentality.

Absolute worst case scenario for Hurley is that he is suspended for maybe one game early next season. And I seriously doubt that will happen. He runs UConn and walks on water at that school. Now, the SID might get a leave with pay or something similar but, no one is going to get in deep trouble over what was said or the aftermath. UConn doesn't have the balls or the class.
They will fire him in a couple of years when they fall back to irrelevance.

It's real. Now whether they're being investigated or not, is another matter. But they apologized today.

The director of basketball ops should be fired for his actions

To make threats like “I’ll ruin your life” us a fireable offense

It’s also illegal in NC to make threats like that

Guys, we need to read the thread, this is not complicated.

The yelling at the reporter happened, that has never been in doubt from the beginning of the thread.

The part that has always been misinformation was the police being involved, "investigating" the athletic department and Dan Hurley, etc.

See my post below along with about 100 others.

The guy is a well-known fake reporter who takes little nuggets and makes outlandish tweets about them.

Turns out they ARE investigating the athletic dept over the threats the Sports Information Director (part of the athletic department) made towards a journalist. Sucks to only read things a certain way instead of actually using your noggin to reason WHAT KIND of investigation in might be.

There are 2 things here that will be investigated.

1. Hurley made disparaging remarks not once, but twice as he walked into and through the tunnel. He should at minimum be fined for it, as they do and have done to others.
2. The manner in which he did so reflects very p
Poorly on the NCAA and UConn as a member institution. He may be hit with a suspension because of it as well.
3. The threats by the SID may or may not be an NCAA violation, but it may bring about an investigation into whether this is a pattern for the program. (I doubt this video would've been published if shot in UConn's home arena.)
4. It's being investigated by police as well, with most of the work already done for them, but I don't know if they can pursue it if the journalist accepts an apology before it goes much farther.
