Hurley & Basketball Director in hot water?

Guys, nothing about that tweet is true. If you look at that account's other tweets, you'll find it's almost all bullshit.

  • There's a tweet saying Aaron Judge was under investigation for PEDs.
  • A tweet saying Ed Cooley was the front runner to replace Tony Bennett.
  • A tweet saying Pitino the Big East was going to force Pitino to resign or sanction St. John's because he visited Kentucky.
  • A tweet saying Kenpom data is fabricated.

ARE YOU DEFENDING THAT EGO MANIAC, IF YOU ARE THATS SAD, HE SAID WHAT HE SAID ON LIVE CAMERA. THERE IS NO DEFENDING THAT. I AM GLAD FOR ONE WE DIDNT GET HIM

Yeah that's a fake reporter. Just another major issue with twitter now, just free rein for misinformation and fake stories that everyone falls for.

That being said, the SID story is apparently true. Apparently their SID really did threaten the reporter, just nothing else about the tweet is factual.

Yep, he’s defending Hurley because he’s undercover. He may post here on a Wildcat fan site and sure, all of his posts are consistent with his fanaticism of Kentucky, but those thousands of posts and hours upon upon hours spent was to wait for the perfect moment when he should strike. His sole mission was to immediately conceal the truth about any wrongdoing that Hurley was involved in, thereby propagating the superiority of UConn as a Newblood. Everyone else may be fooled into thinking he was trying to point out whether a tweet is factual, but you and I know his motives are much more insidious.

Yeah, I didn’t do a deep dive on the account or anything. Just looked at the last 5-10 tweets. lol.

Yeah. Didn’t do a dive in the account to check it out, just last 5-10 tweets or so. But I’d say Judge is definitely on steroids. Rest of that is faux. 😂

He is a known Cal supporter. He's anti-UK and pro-Cal.

Absolute worst case scenario for Hurley is that he is suspended for maybe one game early next season. And I seriously doubt that will happen. He runs UConn and walks on water at that school. Now, the SID might get a leave with pay or something similar but, no one is going to get in deep trouble over what was said or the aftermath. UConn doesn't have the balls or the class.

Hey that guy is a reporter for an outlet that ceased to exist in 1924! He’s legit! Look at his name. He’s real.

Damn! nicely written, did not know village idiots were so articulate .
😃

Hadn’t seen this here today but is this real?
If real, then now way they actually do anything to him, right?

I have no idea who Rob Reinhart is, but he instantly lost credibility with me with the phrase “explicative” filled rant.

So many stupid people pose as online reporters nowadays.

Love how everyone is jumping the OPs sht, but it turns out part of the story is factual.

So it's not a fake story and twitter isn't all just misinfo. Got it.

When did we get so lazy that we expect everyone else to verify everything for us? When did we go from being able to Google to not being able to Google? Why do people have to tell us they are being sarcastic or joking? Why does a govt worker or office, or someone with "a checkmark" posting something suddenly mean it is actually factual?

It's a sad commentary

I hope no one turns my post into something other then what I am trying to say and make this a political post.
This post about UCONN is actually what is wrong with our country right now (among many other things of course) that the media and social media say and print stuff that is not true or is partly true and people believe it and run with it.

TV political news people are daily reporting stuff only to be called out two-three days later with the actually facts but the damage is already done.
I do not like the UCONN coach but he does not deserve to be vilified with BS stories.
Makes you not want to go online.

Social media is the water cooler/break room. It's no different than rumors started 60 years ago. Rumors are rumors and the same type of people start them then as now.

Now, it is true the media as a whole isn't professional anymore. They don't verify things and publish a lot of propaganda instead of reporting news, but that's something just like rumors that we can not buy into and not click, not repeat.

No damage has been done to Hurley that he didn't do to himself by ranting out loud to a lot of people.

As someone who has to keep their pulse on social media and the Internet as it relates to my job…

The three greatest propaganda tools humanity ever invented are the printing press, television and social media. And social media might be the most effective and the worst.

Agree that social media might be the worst and most effective propaganda tool. Any idiot with an internet connection can easily spread false information worldwide without anyone to check them. Ridiculous BS used to travel slowly via word of mouth. Now it travels in real time and spreads like wildfire.

It doesn’t matter which “side” one is on, most folks are so ideologically biased they will believe anything they read that confirms their biases and will disbelieve anything that questions those same biases. It’s not unique to any worldview.

Media literacy worldwide is pretty low and only getting worse. I would say your average person can’t distinguish between real information and misinformation.

I would argue that a small portion of the post (the UConn communications director really did threaten the reporter) being true just muddies the water and makes the provocative mountain of lies that followed (the police are involved and Uconn is facing NCAA sanctions) that much more dangerous rather than excusing them.

Apply this scenario to matters more important than a basketball coach being a sore loser with a potty mouth, and I agree that social media is one of the most potentially destructive forces we’ve ever invented.
