Humphries over Skal...it's coming

It's about match ups and having a huge bodied 7 footer banging onto Skal is not gonna be pretty. When Humphries come in and are up space it negated Murphy and he didn't really do anything after that. I think Skal would have been better off if he played the 4 last night against Jefferson and have Humphries or Poy bang with Murphy.

Last night we saw how important quality depth is as we had multiple guys in foul trouble and production never dropped off.
In proud of all our guys as all of em played well and if we just hit our bunnies we missed It would have been a 30 point win.

Isaac played great, but Skal only needs to get stronger to be an NBA all star player. Skal has footwork, feel, and shooting touch that 97% of 6'11" guys couldn't develop in a lifetime.

For Skal to be relegated to the bench would be a tremendous black eye to Cal, he couldn't properly develop the #1 recruit? Never gonna happen. Hump's size and physicality compliments Skal's game well.

Uhm, so Ive had one reasonable poster agree with me. Look, I have a ton of likes, and others dont. It means that I post quality.

What I am telling you here folks, is that Hump is going to better than you all are giving him credit for, and it will be sooner rather than later.

Sure, there is some hyperbole in my statement, but not much. Skal is too weak. You really think his game is going to be the 5? Not with being that skinny. Granted, we are having more players play outside of their positions, and skal has a sweet outside game, but Cal aint using him for that. Thats where Hump comes into play.

With our three guards, we need a big man below, its how this is going to work best. Skal is going to be great, but not as good as Hump will be in the system we are trying to run.

Humphries isn't better than Skal. Not now, not next week, not next month, not next year, not in the dribble drive, not if we play zone, not if we play against Shaq, not in a boat, and not with a goat.

1 game. Gotta be kidding me. Hump will hit the wall at some point this year and go backwards. He is a 17 year old young man on the biggest stage in coll bball. The young man will regress once the pressure becomes real and he has expectations instead of no expectations on him. Part of the learning process especially for a young man who is not an elite athlete like a Davis or even Cousins. Once he settles in (2 or 3 year's) he can become a all SEC type player. Skal is the real deal. But he is not a banger like he was forced into last night. Once Cal and Skal figure out his best position he will be special. Cal has never had a player like Skal. He is not like a Lee or Willie , he is def not like Cousins. To be honest i think Cal will for the first time try to protect his primary big on the def end so he has his elite scoring big on his offensive end. By the end of the year Cal will have figured out the best way to keep Skal on the floor and put him in scoring positions. Maybe thats having Skal face up to the basket 15 and in half the time. Just a different player. But still a very special player.

I don't even take Humphries over Skal in a half-court league.

Although I do think Humphries' upside is incredibly high.

I'm really glad we got Humphries, I think the kid is going to be a very good player. I will take guys who are 7' and skilled all day long as opposed to the UofL philosophy of 7' and not skilled.

They are not the same player, in terms of what their games are. While both play the 5, Humps big but makes him more advantages in this system as a 5 with a 3 guard lineup.

A few of you know this, but coming from a place of knowledge, I havecoached girl's middle school basketball for years.

Just curious. Is it a particular type of drug you use? Does alcohol result in this impaired judgement? Are you this way normally?

Hump was a beast last night. That big butt was shoving and giving duke all it could eat.

I predicted Ulis last year and made the claim Hump would take Skals spot.

We're watching it unfold now.

The OP is either drinking something very good, or smoking something pretty strong or, and I hope this is not the case, he may just not be very smart.

LEK hooked like 40 people lol.. But people are actuslly agreeing with him and even I'm now confused who is being serious.

Good joke. But mods please delete thread. some people are taking it seriously, and will start making a big deal out of nothing, pitting Hump against Skal. Not needed.

Lol its not happening...we are 3 games in, you would think people would learn by now but no its the same every year..."why isn't miller starting over Gilchrist" "why isn't insert name"....remember just one game ago there was a thread with people losing their minds over Ulis having 5 turnovers...how many did he have last night?

Humphries will be good in due time, and he did well for a 17 year old playing on a big time stage for the first time...he still is a couple yrs away. He's about at the level of Eloy right now. Skal will be the much better player this year. Poythress is going to be the beast inside tho...oddly enough there was a "well alex just ain't gonna get it done...lol he came in and had how many big boards Tuesday?

I'm pretty sure your joking...but there are real posters who behave like this after every game

I'm not joking.

Skal was a toothpick last night. Humphries was a man. It's better in a 3 guard line up. Bruiser. Not like Poy is banging.

Skal just needs to gain some weight so he can hold position and not get pushed around, he'll be fine[thumb2]

LEaK,(Don't take offense, just messing with your name.) equating the likes you have to being right,....is wrong. Most of your likes came from the paddock in political discussions where many have your same philosophy about issues. Bantering back and forth, and back and forth as you and they have has been good to your like count. (Many posters spend a whole lot of time on a message board debating. Actions in real life may not find them so passionate. Actions speak louder than words except on a message board.) You are good at stirring up a response. You get credit for that. I have no issue with you but to come on this board and boast about the amount of "likes" you have and equating that to being right....is wrong. It will be wrong tomorrow too. Be Good

It's only 3 games in, but I've been a bit underwhelmed with Skal. He's a kid that obviously dominated
in high school, but has looked a little lost at the beginning of his college career. He has a ways to go
in post positioning and defense. He is not as ready at this point as Cousins, Davis, Noel, or Towns.

Frankly, he seems to lack some of the fire and intensity that makes a big man great.
I have all the confidence in the world that our coaching staff will develop him. Hopefully, Cal can help
this kid reach his potential. If that happens, no one will compete with this team.

Let Cal work his magic. We have tons of good players and Skal has time to learn. He will or he won't but I am betting he will. Cal believe's in him. That is good enough.

I hate to say this but probably most of your likes and people who agree with you come from a want place not a rational factual thinking place. some Ky fans love to see a lighter skinned young man produce and when one does have a good game or show promise then here come the over the top he is the next great thing.

I've seen it over the years and even Cal referred to it once while meeting with the team. it is what it is. Cal's comment was during a class with the players on media relations and how to handle themselves in public. it was directed at Miller. he said when he is out in the public some UK fans make comments to him about getting more Ky boys. Cal said it was really about getting more white boys on the team. unfortunately in our state for some reason people still have that IU mentality 5 white boys playing is better basketball.

Be honest , how many comments did any of you hear Tue night from some about Duke having white guys? it is a lot better then it use to be but at the same time we still get these fans who would feel more comfortable and root a little harder for a guy to get on the floor because of the color of their skin and not their production on the floor.

and I could be wrong in this case. just can't see how anyone who knows this game could think Hump in the long run this year will be better or more productive then Skal. only way I can see someone with that mindset is if they have a alternative motive.

Your prediction of Ulis beating out Harrison did not come true and got the same responses as your getting with this post. Do you even watch the games.

If there was a post dumber than the OP, this is it. What we have are some posters who like to stir up this kind of bullcrap.

I can't see him taking Skal's spot. Just too much talent to not have on the floor, but I can definitely seem him taking some minutes away. I guess some saw Humprhies signing as a move in case Skall had been declared ineligible, but the young man looks to be a player to me. He's still just 17, and under Cal he can develop into a very good one. Plus because of his age he has to stay at least two years. That may seem irrelevant at this point, but you never know. He has that one thing the NBA loves that can't be coached. Size!
