It's nice seeing the program play competitive football for three straight weeks against SEC competition. Better yet, Kentucky won two of them! Without question, the progress made by Stoops and the program has been monumental. A few thoughts on tonight's win;
*Patrick Towles. The young man was big time tonight....made some big time throws. Can't say enough about how he played, especially late. Standing in the pocket waiting for routes to develop takes a bit of courage considering UK's OL issues. IMO, this is Towles 2nd best performance as a Wildcat. Loved his comment to the reporter after the game when asked if he would return to social media....his response was "absolutely not." LOL!
*UK's skill guys made plays! The Baker catch on the sideline was ridiculous. Should be a top ten contender for plays of the day. Johnson came up huge with six catches (including 3rd down conversions). Jo Jo. Can't say enough about the way he plays...seems like he's going 150% every run. Kentucky finally worked the middle third of the field with Conrad. How good is that guy gonna be?
*Also can't say enough about the UK defense. MU barely averaged three yards a carry, and a lot of that was Mauk getting loose. Only one TD allowed. A huge goal line stand in the 4th quarter. I think Commonwealth would have exploded had Flannigan made that INT in the endzone. Hats off to Eliot and staff!
*For the second time this season, UK's offense had the ball late with a lead and three minutes to run off the clock to close it out (it was four minutes at SC). Both times, the Cats got the job done. Kemp was running like a man possessed on that final possession.
*I would think tonight's win will garner the Cats a little top 25 support next week. At least a few votes. If the Cats can get past Eastern and Auburn, they have a real shot of sliding into the bottom of the poll before heading to Starkville.
The Cats are 2-1 in league play. This team isn't dominant enough to "expect" many wins, but they're good enough to trust they'll compete in just about every remaining game. Kentucky's last winning record in league play was 1977. This team could end that brutal streak!
GBB!!!
