Cal recently agreed to his contract extension through the '22 season. If he were to complete that contract, there would be a tantalizing carrot dangling in front of him.
As it stands (officially), Cal has 593 career wins. He really has 635, but, you know. Cal has averaged 32 wins per year at UK. There is no reason to see that number decline, so at the end of his contract he would be sitting at 817 officially. He would be 63.
183 from immortality (in coaching terms). It would take 6 (5 if you ignore the vacated wins) more years to officially reach 1000. He has said in the past that he doesn't want to coach as an "old man". If he stays through '22, do you think he'll chase the prize?
I do, if he stays through '22. It's too close and too rare to walk away at that point.
What do you guys think?
