I'm not doing this to myself anymore. First with Meeks, then Brandon Knight, then Teague, then Noel, then Young, then Booker and Dakari, etc. etc. He's leaving after this year. That's my thoughts and it will remain until proven otherwise. No more false hope.

He's not leaving after this year. Ulis will be a 3 to 4 year player.

I hope so but Cal mentioned a couple of weeks ago he is a candidate to jump. We'll know during the season if the scouts are telling him he should stay or leave.

I remember. I think that was Cal just trying to be Cal. I don't think he really believes Ulis will leave this year.

His forte in the NBA will be brain power......(maturity) When will that max out????

Hate to be a negative nancy, but your thoughts sound like unwarranted optimism. You offer no reason why he would stay. Recent history would seem to indicate he's two and through.

Probably next season, but could easily be this season. Hes EXACTLY what several NBA teams need: a deadly 3 point shooter, great passer, great defender, exceptional leader. His shooting opens the floor for everyone. The rest are self explanatory.

I think he is gone after this season. I'd love to be wrong, but it is all about what is best for him in his own mind. It is his life. I'm just a fan rooting for a team of 18-21 year olds, and freaking out about their games like an idiot...not my decision.

We've had a lot of "three and four year" players only stick around for one or two. I'm not getting my hopes up and will enjoy him while he's here.

You guys are crazy, Ulis is a great player but he's 5-8. He's a 4 year player. Isaiah Thomas is better than Ulis and he was like the 60th pick.

If he really wants to be an NBA player, and if he thinks he can be an NBA player, then being a 22 year old 5'9" player doesn't give him a better chance of making it than being a 20 year old 5'9" player. I have no idea how long he'll be here. I wouldn't have thought a player his height would make it in the NBA but if you're going to try to go pro, more time in college only helps if you need to develop skill set - like Patterson expanding his game farther from the basket. It won't make you taller.

I see what you're saying about Ulis' stature and think he very well could be here 3-4 years. But comparing someone who played at Washington to someone playing at UK, from an exposure standpoint, is impossible. We're the NBA factory.

If you can ball as a pg size ain't a big deal . A decent number of 6 feet and under guards have been drafted in the late first and 2nd round as Ulis will be . And what guys like Thomas have done have made it easier for guys like Ulis . He will be drafted in the late 20's of the first round this season I suspect. In fact I think Ulis is more likely to leave then Lee though I think both end up going .

I don't think the height will scare teams all that much. Chris Paul is only 3 inches taller. Nate Robinson and Isaiah Thomas are the same height.

A lot of people use his height against him, but how many 5'9" Point Guards ever become good enough, skill wise, for the NBA? Your mid-to-low majors will have some short guards, but none of them will make it to the NBA, and most of them know this well before college. I'd bet there are maybe 5 players a DECADE that are under 5'10" that are even good enough to make an NBA team. I'm not counting Ulis out because he's good enough for the NBA. He'll get his spot.

Still going to bet on him staying 3 years though.

Ill make that bet with you. He's gone after this season.

I'm absolutely shocked you think a Kentucky player is going to leave early. You know, him transferring before the season starts is still a possibility.. sure you don't want to go for that option?

I just think that if you're 5'9" in your senior year of highschool... you're probably going to give up on basketball. How many players are like Ulis out there, not giving up because of his height?

You can't just look at the NBA and say "Oh there's no one under 5'9", so it won't happen". players under 6 foot are giving up on that dream every year. It's not like the NBA is shying away from 5'9" guards... there's rarely anyone that size to begin with..

My vote was that he'd leave this year because of a few reasons: 1) he's the starting p.g. on what's going to be a top 5, final 4 type team. (2) he'll get plenty of opportunities to impress the scouts. (3), it's a relatively weak draft year.

if for some reason he doesn't end up leaving after this season, my second vote would be that he's here all 4 yrs. Next year's draft looks to be quite a bit deeper than this year--tyler could potentially lose a few spots after having a better season if he were to go next year

Ulis is a 4 year player. And that is no knock. Ulis is a good player. It has gotten to be some screwed up world when people are so confused about what defines a great college player that they think a 5-8 guard will leave for the NBA after his sophomore year.

If Cal publicly states Tyler will leave early, why do you consider people confused when they echo his statement?

Ulis is the same size as Devan Downey and IMO, Downey was one of the best players in the SEC over the last 20 years. Nevertheless, Downey was undrafted by the NBA and has played his entire pro career overseas.

Downey isn't even a top10 player among Kentucky's last 6 rosters. He hit some big shots, won some games but he and south carolina did notttthinngggg in the tournament..

And while he torched Kentucky for what I believe was Cal, Demarcus and Wall's first loss.. I believe that our team wasn't allowed to even look at Devan the wrong way that game. Small guard who for some reason got the "David" treatment amongst the Goliaths.

I love Ulis and I think he could have a truly great college career, but I don't see it translating well to the NBA. Unfortunately, he has severely limited upside/ceiling due to his height. I see him in the D league for a year or two then making a nice living playing professionally overseas. Also, seems like the kind of guy that could end up getting into coaching. There have only been a couple NBA players ever that have been successful at his height.

Which has absolutely nothing to do with how good Downey was as a player. I see Ulis as being a 3 to 4 year player. And there is nothing wrong with that. Not everyone is made to play in the NBA, although he will certainly get a chance.

I just don't understand this logic. Have you been in a coma the last 6 years? We've had numerous players who were sure fire second round picks who left after two years. Your idea that someone is a "four year player" is sorrowfully outdated. And it puts someone in a box. Tyler is what he chooses to be. There is nothing inheritantly wrong if he leaves after two years, he's undrafted, and has to go to Europe. It's about what he wants to do, it's his life. He owes us nothing.

I actually think Tyler make it in the league regardless when he leaves. I see him being a solid backup point guard. Would be a great locker room guy as well.

I'll support him 100% regardless of what he chooses. He's competitive as hell though and smart, so I think he realizes he doesn't have much to gain by staying two more years. Id be thrilled if I was wrong however.

If he'll get his chance, and you think he wants that chance, why do 1 to 2 years more in college help? Those years won't make him taller. If he wants to go, his draft stock won't get better in the future. He may want to stay, but those acting certain about it are deluding themselves.

Normally I'd agree with this. Winning a title is a team accolade. It doesn't reside with just one player. But this isn't that case. It's not like Downey made a decent run in a tournament or two, they never even made one. Instead getting bounced in the opening round of the NIT. And his first year (red shirt sophomore?), South Carolina couldn't even muster a .500 w/l record. I get that the Gamecocks weren't good, 99.99% of college players couldn't muster them to a deep tournament run in those years..

But if you're "one of the best SEC players in the last 20 years", you need to have more to show than that. Putting up great stats, but doing so by putting up double the FGA as anyone else on the team doesn't put you in that rarefied air.
