How good is Onyenso?

All of our players do, but they seemed to do a better job of staying home last night. So clearly it is finally being emphasized in practice. I think Ugo did a good job last night. AD had unreal quickness for someone his size and had an uncanny ability to know when to leave his feet if at all.

His shot blocking is right there with Noel and AD.. and he has a decent touch around the rim and with a mid range game.

But the problem I saw last night was het got beat a TON for rebounds. Now maybe if your speciality is blocks, you might miss some rebounds.. but we do need him to get better there. If he can do that, he might turn into one of the bigger post presences we've had in a while. Been quite some time since we've had a shot blocker of his caliber.
I agree, if he comes back and works on his offense, positioning for rebounds, and continues to make strides he will be a force.

Why would he go anywhere else after playing 36 minutes last night?

I think he’s found his role and Cal is running with it.
Ugonna has indeed found his role. I'd love to know which of the assistant coaches was the one who insisted that he be given more (and it turned out to be 36) minutes against Auburn. CCC had 24 games before, in which to make and execute such a decision, so I'd bet a big price that it wasn't Calipari who was the driving force that allowed Ugonna to play 36 minutes against Auburn. Just MHO, of course.

I feel much better when he's in, as opposed to the other two, and evidently so does cal.

He doesn't have great hands and thus loses a lot of rebounds in traffic. He may come back because as the above poster stated, he's not the NBA prototype right now, soft playing Bradshaw and Z might get drafted ahead of him because they can hit the three.

According to this board, he was awful just a week ago
2 good games — All American .. 2 bad games — he’s a bum .. imo think the jury is still out , def a shot blocker , but let’s see how it plays out

Ugo missed a lot of development to injury and just starting to scratch the surface. He may be our biggest piece to a March run. Defender and rebounder around the rim.

Looks like some of you are coming around to what I was saying last summer.
Onyenso is a better shot blocker than Richards and WCS. He is right there with AD and Noel. Actually this year he is blocking at a higher rate than AD and Noel did.
And yes he has a nice shot out to 15’, I’m surprised his FTs not been better.
But no, he is not DPY, not even for SEC.

So I was right about Onyenso, and Theiro and Bradshaw. Unfortunately I was wrong on Edwards, although he is slowly improving.
The main difference is that AD shot blocking versatility was/is unmatched. AD blocks shots anywhere from the three point line to under the basket. The others just block shots at the basket.

Don’t disagree with that. Just saying if you look at the numbers, Ugo’s right there (actually ahead)

He has no motor, and doesn't strike me as a dude that's very coachable. You've been playing for awhile, at this point your hands should be up on defense, you should be willing to take contact, you should be dunking the ball, you should be fighting for rebounds. He doesn't really do those things, the things that most coaches would expect from him.

^^. or how about " out of position a lot". in review of the Georgia game The F'in staff actually said that .
Out of position means: Didn't let DJ showcase his NBA-level driving skills to scouts. Didn't let Bradshaw take those 3's.

With a healthy dose of PT maybe he figures out some D ?? We know he can score and pass .. faaaar better than the other 2 , but he gets left out .
Agree 100000000%!

But Cal knows best:
