How did we go 13 years without a Final 4?

If Keith Bogans does not get hurt, we get to a final 4 in 2003 and possibly win it all...no one was playing better than UK that season.

I just completely disagree with this take and think it's a total myth. Bogans still played and his injury had nothing to do with Marquette being great from three and Jackson destroying our front court.

True that. Everyone talks about Wade getting a triple double, but overlook Jackson waking thinking he was Shaq and taking a complete dump on Estill. UK was clearly outgunned that and Bogans being 100% probably doesn't change the result. UK was never really in the game, and the one run they made was stopped by a bad charge call.

Good gosh man, Novak would more than likely have been on the bench if Bogans was healthy because he in no way have been able to guard Bogans! If Bogans was healthy we would have more than likely won that game!

Bogan wouldn't have guarded Novak. Give me a break. And it was Jackson not Williams so thanks to others remembering their big man's name.

Absolutely. I remember when played UConn and Kansas near the end of his tenure and knowing we had no shot. I had never felt that way before as a Kentucky fan.

In 2000, 2002, 2006 and 2007, I knew exactly who we would lose to and what round. Maryland, UConn and Kansas were much better. In 2000, we were just mediocre and barely beat St. Bon in the first round.

But Tubby's last two years were just depressing and Bill G's two years made that one of the worst periods ever 2006-2009 was just the dumpster fire of our program.

I still laugh at the people who act like it's a given we beat Marquette with Bogans. Marquette absolutely crushed us that day. One of the most depressing losses of my lifetime.

That day they were awesome. The very next week, they were down by 41 at one point against Kansas and lost by 34.

But like I said, they straight up beat us. No excuses at all.

TS was a good man but could not recruit. Part of the problem was his style of play. offensively minded kids were not interested in his style. I read once where he said something to the extent that his ideal game was a game in the low 50's. That's not how you play bball. As soon as I read that, I knew we were doomed.

It feels like an eternity now that we've missed the last two. How in the hell did we go 13 years without one?
This!

Dawyne wade was that good, no offense to Bogans, come on people, UK ran into a top all time guard in the pros. Seriously, it was their night, Wade was that epic. UK was not beating Marquette that night. Get over it. Kind of like every great team Syracuse beat in the tournament with Carmelo.

Yeah. If people want to play the injury card, Anderson vs Arizona and WCS vs UConn are the ones to do it. It certainly wasn't Marquette with Bogans.

I'm more concerned that we only have one championship in the last 20 years (assuming we don't get one next year). We're getting smoked by our rivals over that stretch.

We've only had a legit coach for 9 of those 20. That hurt UK a lot. Duke has benefitted from having K that whole time and UNC has had Williams for 14 years next season I believe. Makes a difference.

You do realize that prior to the '96 title, Kentucky only had one championship in 37 years don't you? And with four "legit" coaches...

I don't think we would have won that game with a healthy Bogans. Marquette was just red hot that day and Wade was a great NBA player and showed why. We were the best team in 2003, but as we all know, the best team doesn't always win. We were probably the best team in March/April this year.

So, you exclude the 58 title, and the 96 title and say "1 title in 37 yrs". Weak sauce.

We definitely had long spells in between some of our titles. We were fantastic 48-58 and got four titles but the next half were very spread out.

Took us 11 seasons to win four then 20 more years to win another. Then another 18 years to win another. 1998 was a short wait for the next title but then took us another 14 to get number eight.

Duke got three titles from 1991-2001. Then took nine years for the next and then only five more for the last one. Not super long waits once they won it.

UNC had one title in a 21-year span from 1983-2004. Got one in 05, then only a four year weight for number five. Then eight more years for number six. So UNC had a 12 year period to get three titles. Duke had a 14 year period and it took us 16 years to win three titles in a similar span.
