How about Noel to Washington for Gortat?

Washington probably couldn't afford to keep Noel, so it'd be a one year rental. Then again Gortat is pretty old. They need to get real lucky and draft a competent center, because of all the money tied up in Wall, Beal, and Porter.

To make the money work for a deal like that, the Wizards would probably have to let one of their young promising players like Otto Porter go. Gortat's nearing the end of his contract, I think, so that probably complicates it. So it seems unrealistic.

But just as a fantasy draft thing: Sure. I'd like to be able to see John Wall and Nerlens play together a few times a year. Not really a Wizards fan, so I pick the games I take my son to based on the Wildcats coming to town. I've seen most of the guys who are in the league in recent years. I piss off people next to me by only cheering for the Kentucky alums, but that is more common at Wizards games than you'd think.

I can't imagine anyone else wanting to pay Porter that much. The Wiz were hamstrung in the fact that they basically had to keep Porter to sign Wall. Porter is probably untradeable at his current production levels.

EDIT; then again this is the NBA

Bad fit imo. Washington needs a big that helps them spread the floor. Gortat is great at that.

Noel would just allow a defender to cheat back and help stop Walls penetration

The problem with Gortat is that he plays as much defense on his man as I do while watching from home. :eyes:

Gortat is a better player, and they could only afford Nerlens on a one-year rental.

Plus, you don't want another guy who can't make a jumper on the floor with Wall. Gortat is a better fit. Stretches the floor, sets good screens, physical in the post, rebounds, good position/team defensive guy.

I think Noel is underrated here.

First of all Gortat's efficiency is lower than Noel. Also this Gortat stretches the floor bs. He takes some shots but hardly stretching it. Not to mention when you look at Noel's shot chart. It looks kind of similar to gortats. Gortat is better at midrange but hardly considering the age difference.

What separates these two drastically is.

Noel is injury prone, but 10 times the athlete. Defensive potential is greater.

Noel would stay with wizard no problem. I think it could be really good for wizard if Noel stays healthy. Which is big if.

Nerlens shot 26% from 10-16 feet last year and 25% from 16 feet to the three.

Gortat shot 37% and 40% respectively.

11 percentage points is the difference in how Monk shot from three and how Briscoe shot from three.

And? I said he is better, but like I said. He barely shoots that far out. You say 16 - 3 point shot. Except that's just around 16 ft at best.

And. Gortat is old and on a decline. Noel (assuming not injured) is young and improving. Just by having him improving that shooting to low 30s then he is exponentially better player.

Btw. I have different analysis than you but his midrange shooting is at 35% and Gortat at 43%.

The Wizards aren't breaking up this core group for the next two years unless they can get a star.

I know people in the Wizards franchise and they're openly conscious that they've messed up picks and trades that is keeping them from being elite.

The Wizards taking Jan Vesely instead of Kawhi, Klay, Butler, Thomas, Kemba, Vucevic, Biyombo, Tobias Harris, Montejunas, Faried, and Reggie Jackson is one of the great what-ifs from teams that were close and had one elite guy already.

You can always second guess, like Giannis over Porter a couple years later, but that stuff is impossible to predict when there's just one mega star that folks pass over for a guy who ends up being above average.

But man, to get a total dud with that many guys who were at least contributors/starters/stars is bad.
