High Point v Kentucky *Game 1*

So, we're in the bottom of the 6th with a 13 run lead. UK right now should be pinch hitting basically everyone given that we just need 3 outs to end this game. Let some other people hit right here.

It isn't happening.

Exactly, another reason Ming doesn't seem to endear himself to his players. So stupid.
When my son played it would drive me crazy not to give other guys at least an at bat when up by a million.

Ohh, excuse me, we were in the bottom of the 5th last inning when we scored a million. Now we're going to the bottom of the 6th up a million. So, we'll see if Mingione makes any changes. It is the top of the lineup (IIRC) to hit.

I'd hope to see Pitre hit for Ritter and go to short and then Church hit for Estep or Plastiak and go to the appropriate base. Felker to hit if it gets to Harris.

Ritter going to hit, so that isn't happening.

Felker does hit for Estep. Guess he'll go to third? He gets a base hit.

Church will hit for Plastiak.

So, some of it is happening. Credit for that.

High Point pitcher once again wild as all get out and he's hit 2 and this time he hits Liebert and it gives up a run. 14-0.

Dallas now going to PH for Harris.

Dallas popped out and it ended the 6th UK up 14-0.

I guess we'll see:

Felker - 3B
Dallas - 2B
Church - 1B

Holy crap... High Point has a team average of .196 prior to today.

13 of their hitters have an average below .200.

Stupp coming out and he'll give way to Byers, the redshirt freshman. This will be his UK debut. Wonder why it took so long to get him work? Possibly injured?

Burkes is also behind the plate now, not sure if that was at the start of the inning or what.

Burkes throws out his second runner of the year in his limited time behind the dish. Impressive.

So what did we learn/gain from that other than padding their stats?

I don't think we as fans really learn anything from these games.

The value in them is that you are at low/no risk of losing, so you can work on some things prior to playing better opponents. You hope that your hitters begin to see poor pitching better and that they can kind of use that to see good pitching well. It helps them to gain confidence.

I think the issue, for me, is that this is too many bad opponents. 11 Quad 4 games now (we're 10-1 in those). We've played 0 Quad 3 games, 3 Quad 1, and 1 quad 2 (we lost that one). So, just way too many non-competitive opponents for my taste.

And Quad 1 was the same team, TCU. That's it.

Correct. They are RPI 46 right now. I can't complain with that win. Would just prefer less Q4 teams, especially on the weekend, and more at least Q2 or Q3. I think UK hoped Jacksonville State would be that, but that is a risky chance.
