Kam Williams is NOT coming off the bench. He just isn't. He will be the starter day 1, and will be / is very good. The kid is a complete 2 way player. He started and played 32 minutes per game as a freshman, he is not a back up.

So say we take 3 more, which 3-4 players start the season getting no minutes? Perry is obvious but after that we gonna have 12 guys way too good to only get 5 minutes a game.
Gonna tell you right now. Sophomore chandler will be a revelation and oweh will be one of the best players in the country.
Freshman Kam Williams already is a lot better than Freshman Chandler. Both will be better this year, but Williams is that far ahead of him.
I just do not see a spot for Chandler to get a starting spot. Doesn't mean he will not be a very important contributor, I think he will, just not a starter. And that is OK, we need bench scoring and production.

PG - Lowe
2G - Oweh
SF - Williams
PF - Most glaring need, for now Moreno / Noah
C- Garrison
Could really use 2/3 bigs rather they play PF/C, but it is a position of dire need. Most notably the 4 and maybe a shooting guard. The 4 spot really needs to be a guy who can stretch the floor and hit the 3.

If we get Folgueiras and Yates, I will be ecstatic about this portal class.

Big agreement on Chandler. He has the physical ability and a pretty solid skillset, and the mental difference between a 23 year old and a 19 year old will show up now that he has gotten a chance to re-acclimate to playing. Having a hard time seeing him not being either a quality starter or our best player off the bench.
Not so sure Pope isn’t going to go with Williams and Noah as his small ball stretch 4’s.
He wants Noah to add 10-15 pounds of muscle.
Williams is a long 6’8 athlete that can knock down 3’s.
If Almonor can handle that role and all he could really do well is shoot open jumpers, then Williams and Noah should be able to handle it for 12-15 minutes a game.
My ONLY problem with that is it's leave us really vulnerable to injuries. If Alvaro goes down for even a 4-5 game stretch in SEC play, it could tank our chances at a good seed in March or a league title. Not sure Noah or Williams can hold down the 4 spot for any long stretch of games.
Neither of those guard can make 3s consistent enough. It’s going to be difficult to play Lowe and Oweh at the same time.
All these starters on the team. We ll be playing 10 on 5. lol.
That is a concern.
But it’s about like having to rely on Almonor at the 4 when Carr hurt his back.
And it isn’t as bad as having to start a Freshman Perry at PG. And we had two PGs and a ballhandling Wing(Robinson) in front of him.
My point is, it’s really hard to find enough depth to overcome injuries. We saw that this season.
No matter how many we sign, if a star goes down, it really hurts.
I predict pope will get one “superstar”. He knows what he has now is no better than last year. The freshmen will be hit or miss and I’ve seen cam William to noah plugged in ad starters. We don’t have an all American candidate on that roster. We MAY have a couple draft picks but we have some major gaps. That elite player is lacking but so too do dudes who can get after it on defense. Unless pope plans to do things different he’s gotta know he needs more talent. Losing butler will be difficult to replace but you gotta do it. If we’re sub 40 again in defense then we we will have a major problem.

Good point. But one thing, Moreno is definitely a rim protector. Now I understand, and agree with, not relying on him too heavily yet, but he'll end up as good, feared shot-blocker at UK.
The options (cutting, screens, etc.) were there, but there was a disconnect between Pope/staff and the players and what would be a blessing and what was a requirement. The team simply didn't fight for long enough, or hard enough. Pope HAS to change in that regard. Being a nice guy isn't sealing the deal in the portal and it won't get you ready for the tournament.

Agreed, we need a better starter at this position or it will be a struggle.
One thing about Diabate is he would just rise out of nowhere against us and thunder dunk. Just not sure about his motor.
