Helicopter(possibly military) and an American Airlines CRJ have collided near Ronald Reagan near D.C.

A mother and a child flying from Shriner's hospital.

No word on possible victims on the ground

Little girl from Mexico. Came here for llife saving care. She was being sent home after 4 separate successful treatments. Plane was only in the air for 30 seconds. Going to Missouri where it would refuel then head on to Tijuana.

There were a few higher resolution videos released recently showing the crash into the Potomac at DC National. It seems unbelievable that the helicopter pilot couldn't have seen the jet with bright landing lights directly ahead.

It was somewhat bizarre that the family of the female pilot did not want her identified. There was a lot of misinformation put out about her identity before it was confirmed, and that fueled some "theories." Once she was identified, then you see her political leanings are confirmed by being a social media aide under the previous administration. I just hope that this was an accident and not an intentional act, but it's hard to watch that helicopter fly directly into that plane without jumping to some awful conclusions.

Sir, this is a sad statement on the state of America.

Between the president and his adversaries, the immediate politicalization of this tragedy has been ridiculous, but typical. Let’s just wait for the investigation and see how this happened.

The censorship regime was one of the reasons we voted against Kamala. This episode makes it clear why. When the government withholds information and it is obvious that they are doing it to either hide something or to create or maintain a narrative, no rational person can turn a blind eye to it.

It's not hard to jump to ridiculous conclusions if you're at all familiar with aviation and night flying. I'm a private pilot and have flown at night quite a bit. It's hard to find individual airplanes in the sky during the day, it's even harder at night, and even harder still doing it over a major urban area at night. All the lights on the ground, on towers, cars, etc. blur together and it's really easy to misjudge what you are looking at. I've thought I had the airport in sight only to find that it was a just a street I was looking at.

And that's not even mentioning how often near misses actually happen, you just don't hear about them because they don't make the news like this does. Last week I was watching a safety video and they were talking about a flight of 2 F-18s that were flying into Austin Bergstrom and got within a hundred feet of a corporate jet, in the middle of the day!

Near misses happen, a lot. You have enough near misses, eventually one turns into an accident like this one. They will find, like in most all accidents, that there were a number of factors that went in to causing this accident. If any one of them had been had been avoided this crash wouldn't have happened. Things like the controller being too busy, the helo being over altitude, flying at night, etc, etc. It was an accident and hopefully lessons will be learned and changes will be made to try and prevent other occurrences.

Even if investigators (of any administration) had the smallest of inklings that it could be an intentional act, then would they tell us? The entirety of details are not always released to the public (i.e. manifestos of mass murderers) in an effort to prevent copycats.

Do these helicopters have any sensors that alert the pilot that an object is headed for them? How can my rental Hyundai tell me that a car is approaching me too fast from behind, but no apparent evasive maneuver is made in the last second before impact by the chopper pilot?
