I'm not counting Jalen Milroe out of this one just because of the loss to Vandy.

I went back and looked at Heisman voting over the past several years. No running back has finished higher than 5th in voting since 2017.

In 2017, Bryce Love finished 2nd and Saquon Barkley finished 4th. Baker Mayfield was the winner.

What Jeanty is doing is impressive, but it's no more impressive than what Jonathan Taylor was doing at Wisconsin. Taylor was going against tougher run defenses, and he never finished higher than 5th in voting.

Just because you might break a single-season record doesn't mean much to the voters who skew toward QB. And even if you break passing records against bad competition like Bailey Zappe did at WKU in 2021, it doesn't even mean that you will finish in the Top 10 in voting.

I expect Jeanty to finish in the Top 10 if he doesn't get hurt, but his candidacy is a red herring that the sportsbooks want you to follow.

Those numbers reminded me of how impressive Lynn Bowden was when asked to take over as QB.

Bowden averaged 8 yards per carry despite all 11 defenders knowing we had no hope of a passing game.

If Colorado is still playing games that matter down the stretch and are in contention for the Big 12 title, I think Hunter will be the favorite, especially if he keeps contributing on both sides of the ball.

This. Much as the Colorado hype train nauseates me, hard to not give it to the kid thats a two way standout.

The Heisman is very much a narrative driven award instead of something with objective statistical benchmarks. Since Jeanty’s dominance is arguably the story of the season so far, I expect him to be a factor, especially if he leads Boise St to the G5 playoff spot that they’re currently front runners for.

Hunter will also get consideration if Colorado keeps winning. He’s a great player, and the two-way contributions help him stand out.

I also think Milroe is getting written off too quickly. Yes, Vanderbilt was a bad loss for the team, but he threw for 310 yards and a touchdown while running for another one in a game the Alabama defense mostly lost. If they get the defense fixed enough to stay in contention, I still think he looks like the best QB this year, and he’ll have big numbers.
