Should UK make a hard push to market Will Levis as a Heisman candidate?

I think they should, and here’s why:

A). He’s talented. Talented enough that Freddie Maggard is projecting him in the first round. He’s got all the tools.

B). He’s returning as the starter on a team that won 10 games and is projected to be even better.

C). Most importantly, pushing Will Levis for the Heisman is great marketing for a program. Regardless if he wins, or even finishes top-5 in the voting, just being in the conversation markets Kentucky football to recruits, particularly QB recruits.

What are your thoughts? Could/should Will Levis be in the Heisman conversation? Should UK push for it?

I think it'll depend on a few things. First, performance in fall camp. Second, performance in the first couple games. If he's lighting folks up and there's a chance that we could compete for the East, then full steam ahead. Otherwise, I'm not sure the admin would go for it.

That said, admin have shown they're willing to now go above and beyond for the football program.

Just saw an article that had WL as 7th best SEC QB behind AL, AR, TN, GA, MSU and USC. FWIW, I think he's better than that and will prove to be this year, but Heisman? I don't think so unless we make it to Atlanta.

maybe push a RB kinda like the Michigan last yr. I can’t see a QB ever being a Heisman candidate under Stoops

All great points, thanks for the responses. I’m with @Grumpyolddawg in just the marketing side of it. I don’t think WL is a Heisman winner, but I think he could be in the discussion with a great year. Again, having his name out there just shines more light on Kentucky football.

I just saw that list. That list is absolutely silly. Spencer Rattler above him? Will Rogers. That list is the work of some that did no homework. In my opinion Levis should be #2 on that list. I can see the argument for Hooker being above him but no one else is really even close.

If Rodriguez fixes his fumblitis, could he make a case for Heisman consideration? both could be on watch lists early season, though running backs don't get the consideration they used to back in the day.

No. RBs would have to have around 2k yards to really have a shot. CRod won't have that many. This is really a QB's award now. Every now and then some other position will jump in there for a season but mostly it's a QB award.

Yes. Imo the lack of adequate marketing of UK players for major awards in the past REALLY hurt the players' chances AND recruiting the big difference-makers. They've improved a lot in this area for IN-SEASON marketing, but REALLY NEED to start marketing Levis and CRod starting NOW with the FWAA and AP.

My buddy that used to cover college football got a marketing package for Sam Bradford in the mid-summer from OkU the year he won the Heisman, and it made a difference in his vote, he said, because he actually watched Bradford play more that year than he would have without that summer marketing package.

They sent a letter, at least 3 gifts, a media guide, and a Sam Bradford photo about 8x10 in that marketing kit.

We have to step that up now or very soon for him to have a shot. Our record and probably their stats will be there at the end of the season, but without that marketing he will miss a lot of key votes.

As TB said chances would be slim for a RB in today's game. Not out of the question but would probably take 2K+ rushing yards. If Bama wins it all go ahead and mark Young as winner and tha LB Will Richardson I think is is name to be 2nd.

No, they shouldn't.
CRod is a more legitimate candidate.

Should they market him "right now" as a Heisman candidate? No. The benefits of marketing him right now is minimal. However, if we market him now and we go 7-5 for the season, the negatives could outweigh the benefits. If it's mid-season, he's having a good year, and 10+ regular season wins are possible.....then, yeah, sure, go ahead and put out some Heisman hype. (But don't expect him to be a finalist unless he has a crazy good year and we win 11-12 regular season wins.)

Should they market him more than he is in general? Yes.

Will Anderson and can’t believe he isn’t a Bulldog. His mom said Kirby didn’t recruit him very hard, thought he was a tweener.
