Just a quick rundown of the heights for our team this year as well as how we stand next year.

The 2024-2025 team per UK Athletics
Oweh - 6'4
Butler - 6'2
Robinson - 6'6
Brea - 6'7
Chandler - 6'5
Carr - 6'11
Noah - 6'5
Garrison - 6'10
Perry - 6'1
Almonor - 6'7
Williams - 7'0
Kriisa - 6'3

Average: 6'6

The 2025-2026 team per Rivals or UK
*
Oweh - 6'4
*Chandler - 6'5
*Noah - 6'5
*Perry - 6'1
*Garrison - 6'10
Lewis - 6'3
Johnson - 6'4
Moreno - 7'1
Williams - 6'7
Lowe - 6'3

Average: 6'5-1/2

*Assumed to be returning

Alleged 2025 Transfer Prospects
Pierre - 6'5
Yates III - 6'4
Folgueiras - 6'9
Mgbako - 6'8
Lee - 6'3

That's just the transfer prospects I can think of off the top of my head, so it's totally possible I'm missing a few players. Feel free to add them below.

How do we feel about height and length moving into next season? I've seen some fans wishing that we'd hear more about bigs than more guards, and I'm inclined to agree, but I know height isn't everything.

I'm also aware that other sites have very different heights for the incoming players save prospects.

I'm just curious to see what the board thinks. I believe we'll be fine and that we're pursuing frontcourt guys we don't even know about yet, but I'd like to have at least six guys on the roster at 6'8 or greater (is that greedy?). We're at two right now. Possibly three if we get Folgueiras, and possibly four if Williams is actually 6'8 like some other sites suggest (Rivals and 247 have him at 6'7, On3 and ESPN say 6'8). No idea what wingspan these guys have, either, so there's another caveat entirely.

Anyway, how're we looking, guys?

I want a strong physical rebounder, and a skilled 4 that can score! I feel much better about the back court then I do about the front court.

I think we have upgraded over athleticism in our new roster

So I think defense will be better

As for rebounding, hopefully Pope can make some football practice to make guys learn how to hustle
Defense will be better, I'm sure. I agree we'll get that with the improved athleticism. I'm more concerned about length there, though. Loved his tenacity and anticipation on defense, but Kriisa had short arms and couldn't really get into his guy's space.

I want a few guys who can block shots on help defense when we have slashers heading to the rim, but also have the ability to pop the ball out or put a finger tip in a passing lane. We missed that badly this year.

We need to learn Houston defense badly

They do not have big size super athletic guy, their physical defense plays are mostly trained by good coaching

If Garrison is coached by Sampson, he will be rebounding and blocking machine...

Our 4 will really matter. We don't currently have one on the roster.

Carr's versatility really helped this year. He wasn't great at any one thing but he was pretty good at seemingly everything. His height really helped us defensively. I don't necessarily think we need a Carr clone next year (although the Spanish kid from Robert Morris sounds close) but we do need someone who can be a defensive presence if Garrison is going to start at center.

1. Add one more combo guard.
2. Add a true stretch 4.
3. Then add a 4/5 in the same vein as J'Wan Roberts who can play the 4 or 5 spot and physically hang with any brutal SEC frontcourt.

On point #3, we had far too many finesse guys last season. We need at least one junk yard dog in the frontline. Right now, we have none.

Houston's frontcourt consists of 3 guys no bigger than 6'8". Pretty impressive what they get done.
Could UK get away with that physicality in SEC play, though? I'm hoping Pope is taking the ref situation into account when he's building and coaching this team next year.

I'm not necessarily saying the refs are corrupt, but the SEC has a refereeing... style... all it's own.

I’ve seen these players listed at
Perry 6-2
Chandler 6-4
Noah 6-6
Owen 6-5
Garrison 6-11
Lewis 6-4
JJ 6-5
Moreno 7-1
Lowe 6-4
Williams 6-8

But not just sec

In order to make deep run in tournament, you still have to be physically ready

I'd love to get Folgueiras. Seems like a good defender when he's not going up against all-star offensive bigs all alone. Dioubate could be a good one to look at if we're looking at getting a tough, defensive hell hound. He's only 6'7, but might be a solid small ball option as a 4 with his tenacity.

That dog right now is Quincy Ballard 6’11 250 still in portal. Not a great ft% but an absolute looking monster.

I got the UK player heights from UK Athletics. I've heard Perry is lucky to be listed as 6'1, so I suppose we can take that as we will.

I just used UK Athletics and Rivals numbers to be consistent. Moreno is listed as anywhere between 6'10 and 7'1, which is ridiculous to me, but it is what it is.

You can if they are quick physical strong and relentless!
But I believe they have long wingspans which helps them a lot!

As a side, I feel like Noah has a bit of growing to do this off-season. I dunno what it is, but I wouldn't be surprised if he reported to camp next season a whole inch or two taller. Would put him anywhere between 6'6 and 6'8 depending on whose heights you believe.

Could be nothing. Just an interesting thought that I couldn't shake this year.

Yeah , I could see him getting taller; looks like he doesn't shave yet.

I don't know if UK could get away that physicality. The Refs in the FF allowed the teams to slap, poke and mix it up pretty good it seemed. But I don't think I would really want UK to try to emulate Sampson/Houston's approach. I admire the tenacity they play with on defense, but the offense doesn't appeal.

If we just add one more PF, we will edge out last years team in height. If we can add two 6'9 types, we will be markedly taller and longer, by probably 2 inches or so.
Matt Jones is claiming we are going to add only one big from the portal and that Williams will play at least some 4. While I the sound of the latter, I do not believe the former -- unless that means that Pope is holding a scholarship for Nate Ament or maybe a foreign big. (I know we can go to 15 scholarships next year but I believe it has been officially confirmed by UK that we will stick at 13. I think that is correct.)

Even if Williams plays 15 minutes a games as a 4 next year (and I think that is high) we still need two other big guys.

That's not good to hear.

But the good news is Matt doesn't know shit it seems, any more than we do for the most part lol.

Remember last year when there was DEFINITELY a big time ACC star who would DEFINITELY go to UK if he entered the portal?

Yep. I don't believe that we'll only add one more big. That's ridiculous.

None of these guys know crap. They're just trying to stay relevant and keep a pay check. I don't even think our staff has a real idea of which of these transfers will pull the trigger or not. They meet with some guy like Dent, tell him how he will be used, and how much we will pay. Then he gets the same thing from 10 other schools, some of which may be countering us, while getting emails from 20 other schools saying "hey, any interest in coming to play for us?"

This is lile making a job offer to a really good candidate.. you have no idea if this guy is going to join you, stay at the company, or go elsewhere. You dont know until he literally tells you.

I honestly hope we add two PFs via the portal or a PF and a PF/C if we're balling with Williams. Williams would be great as a 3/4, but I don't want him to be the dedicated PF behind Folgueiras or whomever else we're bringing in to start.

So, with the recent additions, were sitting at the following heights. I'm getting these from Rivals again if they aren't ln UK Athletics.

*Oweh - 6'4
*Chandler - 6'5
*Noah - 6'5
*Perry - 6'1
Garrison - 6'10
Lowe - 6'3
Johnson - 6'4
Moreno - 7'1
Williams - 6'8
JQ - 6'9
Jelavic - 6'11 (On3)
Dioubate - 6'7

That's almost 6'7 for the average height.

Defense by the end of the year should be absolutely filthy with how much longer, taller, and more athletic this group will be.

Absolute insanity what Pope's done.
