Hate to be cynical, but it gives Cal a chance to brag on him and say that he was in the rotation, while simultaneously giving himself cover when Hawkins doesn't play because he's passed by Matthews and Mulder.

Not saying Hawkins wasn't in the rotation at this moment. With his experience he was bound to be ahead of some of the new guys right now. But I think all of us expect him to get passed as the season plays out, and play mostly spot minutes. Of course he could surprise.

ETA: Not that Cal needs cover. But this was a free shot to brag on a kid without being married to the outcome.

Dude, ease up on the caps, it's not that sad. As injury news goes, this ain't so bad. Only four weeks out, a fully recoverable injury, should be back in action before the season even starts. A tough road bump, yes, but one he should be able to easily bounce back from.

Well, there's always a risk it doesn't heal properly or it puts him back mentally, since he's always fighting upstream against future NBA players for playing time. But you're right that it's not like an ACL tear or something like that. I'm sure he'll come back and be fine during the season. Didn't Terrence Jones have a finger/hand injury early on in the season that UK won the title? It maybe wasn't a break, though...
