Hawkins out 4 weeks with broken hand

Sucks for he and us if true. Sure he brings it in practice and makes our other junior guards better. And the dude always gives 100% while one the floor. I never panic when he comes in. May not score a ton, but only helps you. Love Hawkins. Heal fast brother!!

Well crap. At least it's early enough to get healed by the time the season gets to full swing.

Best wishes for a speedy recovery to the young man!!!

I really hate hearing that. He seemed primed to have a very good year.

“I really feel bad to have to report this because Dom was playing so well,” head coach John Calipari said. “He was so much more confident, so much more skilled. There was no doubt he was in the rotation.

“I feel like my game has improved on ball handling over this summer,” Hawkins said. “I’ve been practicing it back at home in Richmond with my high school coach. I’m always trying to improve my shooting because when I get that chance to get a wide open shot I want to knock it down.

Sucks, but hopefully it isn't devastating. If he's back in November he may only miss 5-6 games, right?

Only out for a month. It won't hurt too bad. He still has plenty of time to heal before the season really gets started. It kind of sucks for him. Early in the season is when I felt Hawkins would get most of his playing time while our elite guards are getting used to college basketball. Still see him getting at least a few mins a game this season.

Hate it for Dom, seems we get more than our share of injuries.

Will be back before conference play which is good...come February is when the rotation is important

Disappointed for Dom. Even last season, he was showing more confidence and desire to knock down shots when out on the court. His defensive capabilities have always been there, but I remember watching him last season and thinking, "Damn, if he can knock that down consistently...."

Dom can really prove to be an excellent player for UK and a veteran. Here's to hoping he comes back stronger than ever.

He will be back at the beginning of November, correct?

I know it's a setback, but he'll be healthy right at the start of the playing season.

As a fanbase we might want to take a step back from the bashing of U of L. Im just as guilty as anyone.

You who is without sin cast the first stone...

Kinda ironic that Hawkins breaks his hand as we are bashing Louisville.

If we keep on could Skal be ruled ineligible? Maybe Murray or Briscoe get hurt or maybe Poy's knee doesn't heal right..
Just saying...

Maybe give it a rest...

Praying for a speedy healing. It could have been worse, like a foot or leg injury. Like this young mans attitude.

I'm not superstitious. I don't really bash Louisville though, since I go there. If this is true, I'll have lost respect for their men's basketball program.

Failing to see the irony.

That's not ironic at all. You clearly don't know what the word ironic even means.

You really need to stop.

Well, feel bad for Hawkins and hope he heals up quick. Having said that:

1. Not a WCS or Poy or Noel type injury. Hawkins is probably our 11th man, so not a key contributor on paper. He is not going to play PG over Ulis, Briscoe, or Murray. He is not going to play at SG over Briscoe, Mulder or Murray. He is not going to play at SF over Matthews, Mulder and Murray. He has 5 guys ahead of him on paper, and 3 at each position as Cal will spread the wealth for the top 5 at the 1,2 and 3. And while I doubt Poy plays much 3 at all this year, he could play a little there as well.
2. On that note, not a season ender like the above either. 4 weeks...could be back by the season opener or sometime in November at the latest.

He should be fine by the start of the season, may miss a couple of games and that's it and some of you are acting like his season is over smh.

Hate to be cynical, but it gives Cal a chance to brag on him and say that he was in the rotation, while simultaneously giving himself cover when Hawkins doesn't play because he's passed by Matthews and Mulder.

Not saying Hawkins wasn't in the rotation at this moment. With his experience he was bound to be ahead of some of the new guys right now. But I think all of us expect him to get passed as the season plays out, and play mostly spot minutes. Of course he could surprise.

ETA: Not that Cal needs cover. But this was a free shot to brag on a kid without being married to the outcome.

Aike... Or Hawkins was actually improving. He was good for us in small spurts his first two seasons.

Our guard depth means we will be okay without Hawkins if he has to miss the first few games or so. I just hope he recovers fully and is still in great shape.

If you read my whole post, I said he could surprise. It's not like he's a bad player.

But it is very easy for Cal to say that he was in the rotation, now that there is zero pressure to follow through on it. All I'm saying.

Anyway, hope he heals up and provides some valuable minutes.

4 weeks sounds optimistic to me. I won't be surprised if it's 8 weeks or more, especially for full recovery.

Sorry for the misunderstanding. Didn't mean to come off too harshly if I did. I see what you mean now.
