To me, a call like that is worse than something that's completely missed or blown. Refs are going to miss things, refs are going to see things wrong. The game is incredibly fast, and mistakes are inevitable.
The Humphries T, though, shows that Adams is totally missing the #1 thing a ref needs- good judgment. He CHOSE to make that call. It was 100% at his discretion, and an indication that his judgment is completely, unbelievably awful. If he doesn't at least regret the decision, then he absolutely sucks at his job, and has no business being in the profession.
