from someone that did watch the game?

-Did the refs call the fouls the same for both teams? I see where Clemson had 5 less fouls (not unlike other games we've played).

-Looks like we had maybe 4 stretches where we had significant droughts offensively. Was it just poor shooting, poor shot selection, not passing the ball enough, or just really good defense?

-Any correlation between who subbed in/out for UK and these droughts?

-No points, ZERO assists, and almost no rebounds for Kriisa.... in 21 minutes. What happened?

-Do we not have anyone else we can play at his position when he's flagging?

-Did the 20 rebound guy for Clemson truly NOT FOUL ANYONE EVEN ONCE? That's astonishing, even for a game refereed by BillMe R Ayers.

I'd appreciate any objective answers and assessment of these issues.

.........

Somebody mentioned point shaving in the game chat at the end of a recent game (or two) where we were well ahead of the spread and collapsed with bad shooting. Here we're in a game expected to be close (-1.5 UK) and we have possessions virtually given away (if reports are accurate) with quick and poor shot selection and very few assists. Is it possible that's what we're looking at right now?

Really oddly officiated game. Cats were out of sync. Pope made a couple gambles on subs that came up snake eyes. Had a chance, but Clemson always had an answer.
One of those nights. Fought hard, but just couldn't string together enough for a W.

Thank you, sir

My simple take was we shot like shit and lost by 4. We should be better than that but it was one of those games where they just didn't fall.
I have to get up early for work in the mornings, so I didn't watch. Looking at the condensed game, it seems like Clemson made several hail Mary shots that D3 schools usually slop in against us in Rupp. No-look turnaround jumpers, turnaround fadeaways, guys who almost never hit threes just draining them from beyond the arc when it mattered, etc.

Was Clemson just making insane shots all night or is that bias from the cutups?

They banked in a 3 as the shotclock expired, and one of their transfer bigs hit a corner 3. But we just couldn't get rolling. They played some tough defense, which partially explains Brea's lack of looks. But my take is that we just struggled on offense with periods of several minutes without a FG. That's a killer in a 4 pt game.

Worst officiated games I have seen in a very long time. I never want to see Ayers reffing another one of our games. I had hoped that when he was relegated to the ACC that would be it for him.

Otherwise we shot like crap. Defended like crap. Rebounded like crap. Basically we played our worst game of the season and lost by four on the road with Roger Ayers on the floor.

It's a flush it and forget it game.

I’d say they had one banked in 3 in the second half that was huge but otherwise no I wouldn’t say they were insane shots. That 3 came I think when we had came back to take the lead early in the second half by 1 and then that 3 put them back up 2.

Hard to complain about their shooting when their best or second best player went 4-20 and 1-8 from 3.

Appreciate the input, everyone. Hoping I get to watch a replay or some highlights, but it isnt likely

Had a 28-23 lead on n the first half after a significant drought, and then had a horrendous last four minutes where Clemson went on a 14-2 run.

Had a two point second half lead and Clemson banked in a three pointer.

Carr had a really off night. Kriisa was dreadful. Brea couldn’t get anything going whatsoever. Almonor missed some wide open looks he’s normally very good with.

Team fought really hard but couldn’t overcome the mistakes. Clemson played like their lives depended on it. With all that, we lost by 4.

If Clemson plays like that (and gets that kind of ref blindness) in the ACC they are going to make some noise. However, as we all know, they will likely flop in their next game at Miami. If they had played like last night in all of their games this year, they'd be undefeated. Even then they are still 8-1 and should have been ranked even before coming into our game.

I remember at one point Clemson had 8 fouls with 9 minutes still remaining in the first half and I thought, dang we're going to shoot a on of free throws the rest of the half. They finished the half with the same 8 fouls. We stopped attacking their guards and instead shot jump shots or drove it into their bigs but didnt make the guards play defense and thats who ended up killing us in the end.

Any time, in a close game, when a team banks in a 3 they always win.

This was the moment in the game when I knew we were destined to lose. A banked in 3 pointer as the shot clock expired is a killer to the team trying to make a comeback.

Also those bailout foul calls on multiple trips for Clemson when the shot clock was under 2 seconds didn't help the matter. Oh well. Learned a lot about this team last night and I am sure Pope did also.

Sounds Like the team has the same superstitious mindset. Hope he can coach that out of them.

THAT'S when you got to calm yourself down, and grind them down with passing rather than toss up hurried shots. Shoulder on the inside and let that rage fuel your D and your patience on O.

Heard this a LOT today. HUGE teaching moment for the former Wildcat, because he knows it's coming for the rest of the season. The officials and conference use UK to promote teams to the tourney, so we'll see more bad officiating.

We have to make it so that the other teams simply can't hang with us long term. Wear out their defense to take away their legs on offense later. I don't know if we have enough players/depth to do that, but that's the mentality or strategy I'd take

You remember when Ben Affleck did a lot of crack cocaine and decided he’d be better off going back to JLO than staying with Jennifer Garner? Yeah last night was kinda like that.

That's what a friend was telling me at lunch. Said he was very frustrated with that.

Umm. No. When did Ben stop dating Matt?

I'm way out of the loop there I guess

Good way to look at it. So our floor is a 4 point loss to a team that might be rankable, with a very poor shooting night, no offensive movement, and the refs being their 6th man when needed or convenient.

That's a good floor. Let's hope our ceiling is way higher than last year under Coach Calamity John
