-Rack 80

-The top 20 from the 2024 portal was batting well below .500. It's not equivalent to HS recruiting(credit:BBdk). It's a different era. I'm assuming UK is being used to drive up $ and most of these early guys were already locked in on schools.

-Ideally next season we'll be looking for 2 or 3 perfect fits with several multi year guys in the fold and developing. That is the real key to success.

-UL is indeed having a good portal season. I'm sure that plays into it. Good for them, maybe they'll get back to being competitive in the series.

-This rain is unbelievable. Drove all over the state yesterday and the waters were already busting at the seams. That was at least 3 inches of rain ago with more than that inbound over the next 48 hours. Sheesh.

-Considering where "status quo" was headed I'm trying to have patience with the tariff shit and let the long game play out. We shall see. Cautiously pessimistic but not to the point I'm gonna burn down a Tesla Cybertruck.

-Big time Majors little league with a couple get shit right games after a very sloppy start. Assistant to the director of analytics, videographer, and equipment manager has been doing his part. I know that. (*I run gamechanger and deal with the 4 alternate uniforms sizing, lettering and alteration.) What a world.

-Lol at the reds. Score 20 then get shutout 3 in row.

The #1 overall seed also had several SRs from previous portal / recruiting years, had time to build as a team. They signed Miles Kelly from the 24 portal, he is arguably the 2nd best player on the team. Adding him with what they already had (a veteran team), pushed them into elite status. The other 2 signings, Ja'Heim Hudson played 5.8 mpg, and JP Pegues played 9.3 mpg. They did not need a lot from the portal, they got the one piece they was missing to go with the very good team they had the previous year.
Broome - SR. - Transfer, 3rd year with Auburn, 5th year SR.
Baker-Mazara - SR. - Transfer from SD State, 2nd year with Auburn
Pettiford - Freshman - #28 ranked 24 recruit
Kelly - SR. - 24 transfer from Georgia Tech in 24.
Jones - SR. - 2nd year with Auburn, 2022 transfer from Florida International
Johnson - SR. - 2nd year with Auburn - D2
Cardwell - SR. - Signed with Auburn in 2020 out of high school, 5th year SR.
Very experienced team that added SR. Miles from the portal this year and signed freshman Pettiford out of high school.

80's post made me feel much better, I had not taken the time to analyze or dissect it like that, so thanks.

I'm usually not one to react / draw conclusions on every single recruiting hit or miss, but it gets hard to filter / ignore the clickbait. Wait, we just missed on a guy I never heard of until 3 days ago?!? That's unacceptable!

As 80 and BBdK said, this is a new era and we all need to "unlearn" our prior assumptions, including me.

I think part of it is how much everyone liked our current team, and we're worried about finding comparable replacements.

Most of those guys now seem like diamonds in the rough, but part of that was from good coaching (what?) and player development. Trust in Pope.

My wife and all my kids just loaded up and left for Vero Beach for the next week. I started a new job in February and didn’t feel like burning any PTO yet as I have a full summer and fall of trips I will need it for. Always thought having the house to myself would be glorious but it’s already the most depressing feeling i think I’ve ever had. The monsoon isn’t helping.

Have a honey do list from my wife that would probably take 2 weeks nonstop to complete. Will do some of the big items and spray the house w fabuloso before she gets home. Always does the trick.

Will definitely catch up on some tv/movies she’s not into. Probably door dash some Drakes and watch gamechanger for the next week. All kinds of possibilities are afoot.

i am a little worried mark pope is just too nerdy for some of these guys he’s going after. Bruh cringe af imo

look you guys are gonna make it sound like I don’t like mark pope. I do. I think he’s gonna be fine. But he’s a different level of nerd/cringey than Scheyer or Golden.

•80s post was spot on. It’s gonna take a little unlearning of the Cal style. Pope proved he can take great fits and build a true team. If healthy; we’re probably playing this weekend.

•We have some holes to fill for sure, notably 1 and 5, but trust he’ll get the pieces he wants. No surprise that what we have right now can’t lead us to Indy 2026. Pretty sure Pope knows that too.

If you’re easily upset by the portal news, you should delete your twitter and just have a coke and relax with a magazine.

•could use a common sense SAECATFAN post on this, to be honest

•will be interesting to see what comes of the court decision on Monday re: NIL/contracts/$. Anyone found a good summary article of what possible outcomes are?

Consensus seems to be the current system is unsustainable and I’m all for some reform to make it less wild Wild West.

I think Pope knows that a lot of the better players haven’t entered the portal.

He might be a nerd, but he threw together a team that beat 8 top 15 teams, with a full roster in 7 games. He proved himself quite well this year.

Think we’ll be pleasantly surprised and happy with who he brings in to wear the name on the jersey.

Kind of lame there will not be a traditional spring football game again but I guess this is the trend now for a lot of major programs. Moving to more of open practice showcase rather than a full scrimmage.

UK has done just about everything possible to minimize the Spring/Blue-White Game for a while now. It doesn't bring in money so it doesn't matter.
