Indy… welllllll… that town sucks. So does Lucas Oil. And Tennessee. Will we ever exorcise those demons? Maybe next year’s Final Four?

I had randomly had booked a hotel on Selection Sunday in case we decided to go and it ended up being the team hotel. So that was a highlight for the kids (and me :)). Seeing players, taking pictures, getting autographs.

Me and Luke saw the whole team as we were leaving the hotel Saturday morning. Lamont was gracious enough to fist bump Luke (with the iconic big blue fist) and take a picture. I turned into a huge nerd telling him thank you for helping to bring UK basketball back to what it’s supposed to be and I started tearing up and he gave me a big hug. He was so sweet. I can’t say enough good things about this team.

It was quite the change of pregaming with 2 kids compared to the past. 😂 We ended up being part of the “cheering crew” with pom poms and Grove Street playing (thanks Mrs. Carr’s speaker) as the team went out to the bus on their way to the arena. In previous years, we would have been posted up at Tin Roof for 8 hours before tip.

No scoop but a feeling that if we add someone like Gwath that'd he'd have to compete for minutes and a starting role with, he would consider transferring.

We obviously need a starting 4 (hopefully someone like Alvaro) then we'll likely need a backup 4 and maybe someone like BG (if he leaves) that can play both the 4 & 5.

Garrison’s baby/toddler is a doll. He was dressed in blue/white checked overalls and fell asleep on grandpa the whole game.

And shout out to Mitch’s son and daughter-in-law having their 4 week old (!), 2 year old and 4 year old at the game.

(These aren't exact #s) but Z averaged about 17-10-2 (& 4 blocks) per 40 while Garrison averaged about 12-8-4 (& 1 block). Z shot 37% from 3 while BG shot 30%. Z would be much more efficient in this offense than in Cal's and better than BG in Pope's O.

Turnovers are a bit of a problem (but not much more than BG) but Pope could reign him in and you could initiate offense with him when he's on the floor like with Amari. His assist rate would be a lot higher than BG's in Pope's offense. He's a better rebounder and a much better shot blocker and his defense could improve but BG isn't much better on that end than Z (if at all) anyway.

Z was Cal's whipping boy the last few years and a positive influence like Pope could do him wonders. Give me Z, Gwath and MM as our 5s next year. Gwath and Z (in a pinch) could play some 4 as well. Then you could mix and match those 3 depending upon what the opposing matchup was.

Z and Gwath could compete so see who starts initially and this would allow you to bring Moreno along slowly. Pope obviously likes Z and made a comment after the Arkansas game along the lines of "I like him more than he likes me".

  • Not even going to bother commenting further on the game/season. Everything that could be said has already been said. Go Cats and go Pope.
  • I get on Faceook maybe once a month now. It’s the worst. I really only do it to make sure I don’t miss something from an old high school friend, but MZ can seriously FOH.
  • Kendrick walk up songs are no joke half the league right now.
  • On that note, parent brag moment: CF had an outfield/RBI hit that basically sealed the game and put our team in 1st on the season (long way to go), and CE’s cheerleading team won Nationals in their division over the weekend. 😎
  • Possible Silkk/P on the Rupp sidelines.
  • Torpedo bats 😍
  • I was genuinely shocked seeing this morning that Keeneland opens Friday. I know it’s that time of year, just snuck up on me with the Cats being relevant in the second weekend.
  • Total flip from the last few years, this is the least excited I’ve been about UK football in a while. I’m still a “Stoops guy,” but I’m also in “Just show me, quit talking” mode.
  • Mingione playing stall ball, arguing every call, doing everything he could just to delay that game with A&M was chef’s kiss.

Z also got pushed around a lot like a feather.

For a team that needs more toughness and physicality, I think we can find a better fit.
That may be true but he still rebounds/blocks shots a lot better in spite of that and does those things a lot better than BG . If we’re thinking BG has or will provide any level of physicality I don’t see why he’s given us any indication of that thus far.

Maybe you pair Z w a better defender/rebounder than Gwath. Z has a ton more upside in our offense and is a lot more skilled than BG will ever be.

I’d be ok if Z is just a backup plan to Gwath I think too.

Reds sure are having themselves a night, and I picked a bad game to be in an MLB blackout area. I mean, I get it. I'm about an 8 hour drive from Arlington, TX.

Up 14-0 in the 7th. Elly 4-5 with 2 home runs and a steal. McClain with a bomb. And coleKO with a baby blue vibrator up his rectum.

-Trying to find a torpedo bat source for my Wee Ball Team. Lightest I can find is a 31" drop 3. That may be a little heavy. We'll probably have to go full custom.

-Welp, I guess the Indy demon is still taking penance for the 2014 weekend. Fair enough.

-Thurs/Friday at were close to perfect.
*Thursday roll into town. Steak dinner with BBdk and Beans. Watch the games.
*Friday wake up and go for a walk. Stumble on the an amazing streetball court right next to Gainbridge. I grab a coffee and G plays pickup basketball for 2 hours. Weather was unreal.
*Take G to Hooters.
*Do a little pregaming at the hotel.
*The game obviously ruined it as it was essentially a funeral for 75% of the time.

Still, tho, first of many NCAAT's with the boys.

-The portal is amazing. I love it. IMO, it'll regulate big time over then next 2 years. Too many teams got burned by expensive players this year. IU, KSU, Kansas, etc. We're gonna swing back like any other open market. Not many teams are gonna continue to drop 2-6M on one player when that's 1/2 or more of their entire payroll.

-Speaking of cursed places. A FOOT of rain for Western KY this week. Shesh.

-4 hits, 2 absolute BOMBS, 7 RBIs, 1 SB, 4 Rs 😍

-He would be an interesting player to add. 99th percentile in offensive rebounds (we ranked in the 200s this year as a team).

-100th percentile in blocks (we ranked 78th this year).

-Could give us a little post scoring we lacked this year and is a great passer (93rd percentile).

-He and Alvaro are close so they would be a nice package deal.

Rafters right now: “Players in the transfer portal are signing with other schools! Should Mark Pope be drawn and quartered and fired into the sun?”

If you can’t enjoy reading rafters right now then I just don’t know what to tell you. It’s just beautiful chaos. Whenever I’m feeling burnt out at work I like to read it so I feel better that my job is not the coach at Kentucky.

Rafters right now: “Players in the transfer portal are signing with other schools! Should Mark Pope be drawn and quartered and fired into the sun?”

No shit. Literally EVERY P5 team is adding 3-6 portal guys, and several of the higher budget schools (IU, Kansas, etc) are pretty much fielding an ENTIRE new team like we did last year.

Taking people awhile to figure out this isn't HS Recruiting. Contacting a guy before he signs with someone else a day later that was probably already 90% done weeks ago isn't a "miss"...we're apparently 1-17 under that premise -- GET IT TOGETHER POPE!!!

For a guy like say, Dedan Thomas, all it takes is one school like LSU that makes him their #1 priority NIL guy, and it's a wrap. We aren't gonna do that unless it's a no-brainer. Dent was that type of guy, and by all accounts we came with 3M or equal to UCLA...and he chose to stay in his hometown - not sure how anyone could be surprised by that.
