Confident pope can get talent.
Confident pope can get shooters.
Confident pope can coach offense
Confident pope can coach situational awareness
Wait and see if pope can coach defense
If he can't I'm confident that he'll hire someone who will.

It won't be his ego that gets in the way.

At the beginning of this year, if I said, we'd set/tie a record for Top 15 wins, and reach the Sweet 16, and lose by having to to three-peat against Tenn. every damn one of you would have said, "Where do I fu**ing sign?"

Do you think this team with a healthy Carr all year, a healthy Butler, and a healthy Jaxson Robinson goes down tonight? Not to mention Krissa.

I hate losing to Tennessee but I can't be even a little bit mad about this loss. Pope crushed it this year, and he brought the joy back to Kentucky basketball. I'll worry about his defense when he gets a real chance to put a team together and has healthy guys more than 7 total games. Loved this squad, even with their limitations.

...let's skip Indy from now on, though.

I’d have rather they gave us BYU bracket and the irony of Pope vs BYU and getting that BAMA buzz saw last night than lose like this to UT.

The sign was there last week vs Troy. Focus was suspect, and it reared its ugly head this Friday too.

Pope is legit. No reason to think otherwise it isn’t like this UT was some chumps, and they could easily make a F4 this year.

Get our team for next year in place and Big Blue is going to be just fine.

Is Oweh going to be worth what he's going to demand in the NLI market? That is the first question that needs to be answered.

Does the new profit sharing plan include an NLI cap?

Only taking 15 3s means we only ran the offense about half as well as it should be run. But that's better than only taking 5 3s.

Losing Kerr was a big problem he would keep the pace up when Butler was out. It cascaded from there. We did extremely well for all the duct tape we used to keep it together.

We looked like a worn down team trying to get a 3rd win over top 10 team. That selection committee did us no favors.

Pope early in the year said the offense is much better in year 2 with the continuity of the roster.

Well UKOEAD,

If Fox isn't getting it done (in more than just 1 season with a brand new roster, ffs),

I'm confident Pope will replace him.

I don’t know what that means sir but it doesn’t sound nice.

I give Pope a B- but if you don’t think there aren’t legit concerns going forward then we’re just going to agree to disagree.

I’m about to get on a plane but have a good rest of your night. Today sucked.

Yes. Oweh is priority #1 period!

I think Smith is ours. Smith, Oweh and Kam is going to be something.

Any kind of smart post play combined with an overly athletic type run protector and I’ll be on board.

Not to speak for the rest of us, but I hope you get delayed and diverted about 15 times. And that your luggage gets lost.

I don't understand how some of you constantly and perpetually generate worry, on a neverending loop.

Omg, Doug Shows is gonna cost us the game!

12 months ago none of us knew who Oweh was - now we're worried about losing him. Wtf?!?

Worry is having no coach and no roster. I'd say we dug out of that hole in historic fashion (literally - 8 wins vs top 15).

Sack up and have a little faith.

For ****s Sake.

We got absolutely punked by our biggest conference rival. Giving up 51% shooting to that Tennessee offense PLUS 16 offensive rebounds… another embarrassing defensive effort.

As shitty as that was I guess it’s better than losing on a f’ing buzzer beater or some kind of choke job shit at the end.

The rebounding was a pretty embarrassing effort and UT had control of the game seemed like within just the first 5-8 min. We were just stuck in mud, no flow or rhythm.

All things considered though, I’m pretty excited about things and Pope gets an A from me for the season.

Not sure if that’s about me saying he is priority #1, but I believe that.

If you see why the SEC was so dominate this year look at the rosters in the E8, and add Auburn to it.

Those boys are all upperclassmen and have played together for at least a couple years.

That continuity and demand for upperclassmen is key to what college ball is becoming again.

So to me that is why Oweh is so important, and I’ll add Garrison too! Chandler as well and even Perry/Noah.

Also not to go all BJW but I think not having Perry as a backup PG and at least stealing some minutes as a sort of floor general kind of hurt us too.

That we did. By their absolute best team ever (currently tied with 2 other UT teams, but probably), against our (guessing) 55th best UK team, in Year 1 of a new coach and total roster rebuild.

No I agree, OO is Priority 1. My favorite player since Fox / Monk.

I was ripping on the Chicken Little mentality that we can't afford him (HK).

I didn't "Chicken Little" Oweh, I just asked a question. I didn't express an opinion either way. WTF? And said essentially the same thing YOU did, that sorting that out is priority number one.

I will not tolerate any slander for Mark Pope after the year we just had and the constraints he had to deal with. The next time you want to post something about our future make sure you consider :

~ We had no roster in April of 2024
~ We did not have a full compliment of players for the majority of the year
~ The SEC was criminally difficult this year
~ While good, we've had inferior athletes at nearly every position given constraint #1

Still beat a ton of good teams, got to the sweet 16 and reclaimed our soul.

You can get back to me in 5 years if we're spinning our wheels.

Rocket Science, imo

Rack 'em. Like I said, the Cats are back. Get on board or GTFO, imo.

Oweh, Butler, and Williams were somewhere between average to bad offensively for their whole career. Butler and Oweh couldn't shoot. Williams was a black hole at Drexel.

They come to UK, get immediately better, and are starters for a team in the top 3 of adjusted offensive efficiency when at full health. They weren't passive participants alongside two offensive dynamos. They were key playmakers and/or scorers.

Anyone grading Pope less than an "A" for this year is a moron. We had a few beatdowns this season but we were a MASH unit the entire season made up of misfit toys. I have no doubt they gave their all for this program and that's all you can ask. The great thing about BBN is we have always revered those teams as much as our championship teams. The Runts, the Bombinos, 2003, 2010 and now I think 2025 joins those teams as beloved for their heart and guts as much or more than any trophy.

Most enjoyable and consequential season in years.

Team was built in three weeks out of what was left in the portal. Then lost its best player, backup PG, and the starting PG and captain played with one arm for the last 6 weeks.

Desperation/scramble mode for the final 2 months because of injuries, yet Pope still makes the Sweet 16 in Year 1.

And we get a dramatic change in culture and approach. The fans are engaged, and the coaching staff is analytics-driven and forward-thinking. That was 100% more important than on-court results this year, but we got our fair share of that too.

When was the last time you actually felt good about the direction of the program at the end of the season?

Thank God for Mark Pope.
