- Just got a new couch- Pottery Barn. Don’t tell me I haven’t arrived.

- I routinely confuse A&M and Mississippi State game results. I don’t know why besides they’re maroon teams with weird fanbases.

- Louisville has beaten 2 teams in the tournament- Clemson and UNC. Feel free to compare resumes to those seeded ahead of you, you delusional Billy Ripken F-faces.

- I mean, with Butler back, we had recently waxed Vandy, killed LSU, beaten Mizzou in Columbia and were well on our way to a comfortable dub against Oklahoma. We’re unsung.

- We smack Troy. Curious who we get in round 2.

- Is Nelson good? If he is, Bama over Duke.

- This idea that KenPom ratings travel year to year, especially over almost 30 years is absurd. Yeah I’m sure in season Chucky Hepburn is All-American we have 3-4 of the 10 best teams in recent memory. Jesus Christ, the media are morons. “Auburn is trending to be the greatest team in the past 20 years according to KenPom.” Two weeks later, “Duke’s metrics are historic!”

- Devries is fine but it’s amazing how Indiana continues to whiff on the kind of coach to pull them out of their 30 year abyss. How can one athletic department continually step on their own d***s?

- I routinely confuse A&M and Mississippi State game results.
Same here, I routinely mix up their big men. I recall thinking earlier this year that it was good Miss St could replace Tolu Smith with a solid vet like Henry Coleman. Then I remembered Henry Coleman played for TexAM.

I once sat next to Minnesota's athletic director at a Twins game. This was when Tubby was there. I mentioned how I'm a big UK fan and how Tubby is a class act and all that stuff. His response was something like, "yeah, well, we don't have the same pressure as you guys do regarding winning, and that's okay". For one, why would he tell me that? Second, what kind of AD is perfectly fine just finishing near the bottom of the Big 10 each year and being fine with it? My point is, I wonder if IU's AD sort of has the same attitude?

Although I’m a certified “city boy,” my blood is mountain, and I spent plenty of time there with my grannie and other family growing up.

I can promise you those people don’t give a shit what Andy (or any other governor) says is the “driving age.”

You have somewhere to be or need to help with an errand? Grab the keys and go.

I’ve often wondered how people who are genuine fans of shitty small conference random teams make it through life. What a miserable GD existence to just hope one day your team has a single great year and you go to the tournament and maybe win a game.

Like, who the f*ck is living and dying in mid-January on Denver or Central Arkansas? God bless those people.

I’d imagine they’re half fans - probably fans of the bigger state school mostly but eager to jump on the bandwagon when Directional State has a good run. Just ask all these poser EKU alumni in here.

They're invested in the for better or worse and don't live and breathe w/ each W or L. It's called being a real fan, or as you said, genuine and they are definitely not miserable. That is lost on most. Then one day, you get a Doug Edert or Jack Gohlke who steps up for your school and puts the pretentious back in their hole, and that carries them for a lifetime.

And those "real fans" as you call them, have a genuine connection to the school, either by attending or living in close proximity. As opposed to some douche who has no connection whatsoever, lives hundreds of miles away, and merely jumped on the bandwagon at some point in his miserable life.

I live in Florida and started going to FAU basketball games about 10 years ago with my young son. It is the closest school near where we live and we had fun even thought the team was not very good then. Certainly not live and die, but the school is small enough where we were able to get to know coaches, players, etc. So it was absolutely shocking two years ago when they went to the Final Four. We attended and it was more fun than just about any sports experience I've ever had - because we knew those guys.

Anyone defining what a "real fan" is, or a "poser" for that matter, is an insecure bitch.

But I know WCC's comment was made in jest.

My second team is the Hilltoppers, and the mid-late aughts were amazing. Attended probably 90% of home games and a couple on the road. Diddle Arena was unreal when it was rockin'. Handful of stud players, including a couple NBA guys, Elgrace Wilborn on Sportscenter Top 10 weekly, dunking on everyone and blocking shots 15 rows deep in the stands, a first round buzzer beater, and a Sweet 16 appearance. Fun as hell.

  • Grew up in a small town with a directional university whose basketball team made the tournament three years in a row. This was around the time UK was in its Eddie Sutton / Pitino transition. That team was awesome and were very involved in the local community. What you "lived for" was winning your conference and beating your rivals. Making the tournament was basically gravy, although for the team I followed we were always screwed over by the committee and pissed about our seed. For example, despite being ranked 17th in the nation in the AP and 15th in the coaches poll, they received a 10 seed. Bastards.
  • Poppi was bought by Pepsi yesterday for like $2B. Have you all ever had Poppi? Tastes like ass. How in the hell does it go for $2B?

* It's kinda concerning how much I enjoy watching 2-3 minute sped up videos on Instagram of people detailing cars or cleaning carpets or cutting badly overgrown lawns.

* I'm a short walk from Tulane University's football stadium, and I'm sorry to say I have yet to attend a game. But, I've got a bunch of friends that are as close to diehard fans as you can get. The experience as a fan, as they tell me, is just totally different. Tickets and concessions are very affordable. It's easy to get in and out of the stadium. Obviously the crowd is much smaller and the feel more intimate. And every once in a while they strike gold -- like winning the Cotton Bowl 2 years ago.

* Anyone else going to LEVEL UP today?

* Here's Cincinnati Reds manager Terry Francona, opining about the aforementioned Jacob Hurtubise.

"He’s hard not to like. He’s going to give you everything he has every minute of the day," Francona said. "And with a smile on his face. He’s easy to pull for. When we do some fun stuff in the morning and recognize guys for stuff they did, more times than not it’s little things in the game as opposed to big things like home runs, and when we recognize him, guys go bananas. They love him.”

As a reminder, this guy is a West Point grad who is the first major leaguer ever to use a special military exemption that allows him to fully complete his professional career before giving his service to his country. So when you see him on a big league ball field, just realize he's a future United State Army officer. That's pretty f'ing cool.

* Bill Burr with a new special out this week. Just sucks the poor guy isn't funny at all.

* You're not going to believe this. I've been asked to fill out a WOMEN'S bracket this year. Are those even legal?

Just go chalk. Do they even have upsets in the women's tournament?
  • 42 championships have been played
  • 32 have been won by a 1 seed
  • 7 have been won by a 2 seed
  • 3 have been won by a 3 seed
  • 14 and 15 seeds have never won a game
  • A 16 seed (Harvard) once beat a 1 (Stanford), but Stanford had two gals hurt before the game and Harvard had a 1st team AA who went off.

Damn, impressive you know all that. You must follow the sport closely.

I attended UK, University of Arizona, WVU, and Ohio State. So, if I chose, I could be either pissed off, celebrating a championship, in the hunt, etc pretty much every year. However, since I did undergrad at UK, that’s the only team I give a shit about, so luckily for me I’ve just been pissed off the last 8 years. Can’t imagine trying to follow more than one team.

- CSU over Memphis the popular 12/5 upset according to the computers

- the metrics absolutely love Gonzaga. How many teams have we beat that the metrics love? I’m slowly talking myself into us making a miracle run

"pretentious" as applied to UK - 🤣

Pretenses - like Helms banners passed off as NCs; 18 years of academic fraud; faux integrity masking the most widespread corruption in the sport.

Sometimes I think UKO just asks to be abused.
Some people are miserable in their life, and make it a goal to make others miserable too. It's best to just ignore those living shit stains of human beings.

You grew up in JC? I thought you were a Charlotte area guy. I spent a lot of time in the dome. Pops played football there and still had connections in the 80s. Good friend was an asst baseball coach there in mid 90's and offices where in the dome. I lived there the yr I took off UK, was the yr they went to the football playoffs so was in the dome a lot with him and went to about every home football & BB game. Those teams with Mister and Talford were awesome, Talford was a local SWVA guy.

In the 80s saw quite a few concerts and a ton of NWA wresting at Freedom Hall.

- Poppi is in my industry so it was a decent bit of news yesterday. That sparkling water market is so saturated but they had to do it. Same thing they did with Celsius last year. That one paid off because Celsius is killing it.

The whole "we're gonna sue the NCAA" is stupid, political theater for WV. Now, I would be far more on board if WV announces pursuing sort of racketeering charges (I know that's mostly federal) or some conspiracy to commit fraud, or something against Bubba Cunningham. Cause him enough trouble to be a nuisance and a pain in the ass.

My 20 year-old daughter is in no hurry to get her license and my 17-year old son isn't far behind her. They both have permits but they don't really care. I don't understand it. The whole "getting a license thing" has been a nightmare too. You can't plan ahead and say "I'd like to plan on June 10th for a driver road test". There is no availability, period, anywhere, and you can't select a date at any point in the future because there are no dates!! It's completely f-ked.

My son, who I've taken to practice driving four times in the past 6 months since he got his permit, when I asked him to practice in Mom's car a couple of weeks ago said he couldn't because he "didn't know how to drive her car", when I asked him specifically he told me "he didn't know where the brake and the gas pedal were on her car". 😒 No words.
Might want to take his phone and video games from him and welcome him to the real world. That is just odd ??? Maybe he has a fear of driving ? Not talking shit about your son, but it is one of the two. He is either too wrapped up into make believe world or scared to drive. You would be surprised of the number of teenagers who put it off because they are afraid to get behind the wheel. Once again, not talking shit about your kid, there may be a reason he is not wanting to drive.

We are not in the same bracket as Duke, Auburn, bama, Florida, St. John’s, and Michigan st. Those are the best 6 teams in my opinion.

Tenn and Houston are both up there but we’ve beaten Tenn 2x and would get Houston in Indy.

It’s a good a draw as you could hope for given the top8 teams are all really good.
Would not include Michigan State (poor shooting team), and I would only include St. John’s because frankly, their advanced analytics say they should be in that group.
Only Duke, Auburn, Bama, and Florida have both the advanced metrics *and* talent to win. Doesn’t mean they will, but they’re definitely in a group, by themselves.

I lived all over, but spent the early part of my life in JC. That team had Jerry Pelphrey on it - our boy John's brother.

I went to ETSU baseball camp and played out of my mind every time I went. Like multiple standard deviations better than in real games. Ken Campbell was asking me where I was going to go to high school because he wanted me to stay in touch. Lol

I should have kept my mouth shut about my son, lesson learned. He's a good kid, on the spectrum, a little behind for his age but yeah he is afraid of driving, trying to get him used to it, I just couldn't believe he thought the brake and accelerator would be in different places on different cars but I guess if you only driven one car ever...( so you can EAD August)

My daughter has no excuse for taking this long but is finally ready and there's nowhere to sign for the road test at any place, east, west or Central KY, everything is listed as no availability.

If he does, he won't be there very long. Indiana EXPECTS a lot more from their basketball program than FN Minnesota. Not even remotely close.

I try, and usually do, but the irony of a UNC "fan" claiming that UK is "pretentious" is one I couldn't let go.

He probably meant something else, I don't think his vocabulary is very expansive. But still.

UK seems way undervalued by the analysts. They're treating it as if Butler is out, and just flippantly saying we have too many injuries. I mean, I get it, but -

This is still a team with 8 top-15 wins, minus only Jaxson Robinson (and we pulled off 2 of those without him, including 2-seed UT).

5-0 vs the final four teams in SECT and ACCT.

2 wins vs Number 1 seeds.

Who knows about Butler's effectiveness, but if he's 90%+, there's no reason we can't make a run.

I'm sure Gonzaga will go on a deep run after I write this but, who have they beaten? 4 Q1 losses to non-conf opponents.
If you went to a small school, pretty easy to have state U alliances, and anything small school gives you is gravy.
Need the Reds to get us to FB season.

My oldest will be 16 in June but he’s in no rush to get his DL. And tbh, as much I complain about having to run him all over creation, I’m ok with it. So many idiots on the road. Driving is dangerous af when you think about it. Life360 is a godsend. Idc what KSR says, being able to know your teenager is safe from anywhere in the world is a huge blessing.

Attended a mid major school, CofC.

They made the tourney my freshmen and sophomore years. My sophomore year in 98-99 they were ranked most of the year, had the 2nd longest winning streak in the country behind Duke and beat #3 ranked UNC in a holiday tournament. That season was a lot of fun. We raged in the streets after beating UNC. It was wild. Like a miniature natty celebtaish that took place in Lexington in 96,98, & 12.

My fandom is gravy without any stress.

Just imagining Rich and his fellow classmates walking outside the arena in their ‘gamos, cocktails with the old school plastic, branded stirs (the best local seafood joint, of course), toasting each other with, “That was really something, wasn’t it?!? LOL” just warms my heart.

(To be fair…that was a hell of a fun run to watch by CoC.)

We couldn't wait to get our DL's, but that was in the 70's (yeah I'm old as dirt) and the only way to find your friends. Now with cell phones and social media who needs to actually be around others to have a life. It's kind of sad it's come to that.

And one other thing..... UKO can eat sh!t and die.
