The fact remains that the type of team we matchup worst with are these super athletic SEC teams. There are other good teams out there for sure but the ones who can punish us and we can't make adjustments for are in our league for the most part.

Bilas said earlier in the year it would be more difficult to win the SEC tourney than the NCAA. That's definitely true for us as far as matchups go.

At the very least if we win the first round game there won't be a top 5 juggernaut waiting the next game like it has for seemingly the last two months. Eat shit VOLS.

Yesterday sucked, but it ultimately doesn’t mean much. Once the tournament starts, nothing that happened before means a damn thing. Bum teams go to the Final Four, great teams shit their pants in the first round - season narratives change completely. I mean, people remember the 2014 team fondly, but that team was infuriating trash until the tournament started, and they almost lost in the first round.
It means a lot to me. Given the variability that can happen in the tournament, I do care about winning SEC titles and SEC tournament championships. It isn't all about March Madness for me. And I think that mindset is sort of jacked.

I'd gladly lose in the first round of the SEC tournament and end up in 8th place in the SEC if we make the Elite 8.

At this point, no one remembers what you did in the regular season, it's how you perform in the tournament.

Oweh seemed out of place with Butler dominating ball yesterday. Need to learn to play together or keep apart.

Oscars tonight reminds me of movies I haven’t seen and don’t intend to.

Portal needs, everything.

Well, we aren’t winning the SEC title. I guess we hurt our seeding for the SEC tournament, but that’s still a possibility. I like winning those titles but - if I’m being honest - I don’t know what they really mean anymore other than bragging rights for the week or two before the NCAA tournament starts. Hell, they seem to barely matter for NCAA seeding.

FWIW, I am of a mixed mind about this. If yesterday’s game had been for the title, I definitely would feel more bummed about it.

If Auburn plays their A game, they're not getting beat by anyone. Too many weapons, too much experience. Haven't really given yesterday's loss much thought because of that.
Their guards were unconscious. We didn’t play great defense, but Kelly, Baker-Mazara and Pettiford hit a lot of contested shots too. I think Auburn played their A game, not quite A+ because Broome was off.

We played like shit. 18 turns, with 11 unforced. That we didn’t get run by 30+ is actually pretty amazing.

I don’t see how you can say that Auburn played their A game because Denver Jones is one of their best players and he missed most of the game. And Broome is supposed to be one of the best players in the country and he looked awful for most of the game. I think they can play a lot better which is scary.

Interesting philosophical point here; would you rather:
  1. Overachieve all year, have a great season, go like 32-2 before the tournament, and then lose in the Final Four while playing a high-level game to another great team who is favored (not a rival).
  2. Underachieve all year, play uninspiring ball, go like 20-14, sneak into the NCAA tournament but catch fire in late March and win the entire thing.
Clearly that's a rhetorical question as I would want the title. But if you looked at it as a four-month summation of the utility gained (or lost) watching UK basketball, the first option would probably make you the happiest.

My point is: I like feeling good in February and the bragging rights that come with it.

Your first scenario was our 2015 team and that season sent me into a months long depression and I don’t even enjoy thinking about it or remembering that team most of the time. 2011 I remember very fondly and have even called it Cals best coaching job and I’ve seen replays of the OSU game and that one is even a worse result than your #2 scenario as they lost in the FF

I was thinking about that as I wrote it and that's why I added "overachieved" and the point about losing to a team that was favored.

Nobody gives a flying touch, or remembers for that matter, how they felt about a team in February.

The media doesn't spend millions of dollars promoting Frenetic February.

The pressure and intensity will never be the same in February.

I can't tell you how many times Aaron Harrison hit big shots in February.

To summarize, touch your feelings, go win a championship in March.

Has the syphilis finally eaten the rest of your brain? Did you really make this post? Asking if this is actually a question?
I thought reading comprehension was a requirement for a lawyer. I was making the point that throughout the season the success (or lack thereof) of a team impacts our happiness / mood quite significantly. Over 30-something pre-tournament games, that's relatively significant in terms of time invested. Of course winning the title is more important and the easy choice - which I clearly said. But I didn't want to downplay the importance of being good during the regular season.

Am I the only person that likes our team in a tournament even without Robinson?

Point- Butler/Perry
Wings- Oweh/Brea/Noah/Almonor
Post- Williams/Carr/Garrison

A few things need to go right for us but that group can win some games and be a threat in that S16 game to whoever we draw.

- My take from this game, weirdly, is very similar to how I felt after the Duke game: short term pessimism, long term optimism. Pessimism (for this season) because we are clearly very limited in a lot of ways, and have no where near the talent of the top tier of teams. Not to say we can’t win against those teams - think we beat Auburn at home 40ish% of the time - but our margin of error isn’t close to theirs.

The optimism is because of what this team has been able to do despite those limitations. I mean we have one guy (two if you count Williams) who can handle the ball, one of whom has missed half the season, and we’re in line for a top 4 seed. Can’t wait to see what this staff does with some genuine lottery talent mixed with experienced pieces from the portal.

- Again, not putting a ceiling on this team because it would be silly to do so… but my optimism would be a lot higher if not for the Robinson news. We missed him yesterday, I thought. To make a run now, we need Brea to be on every night. And let me be clear - Brea has been fantastic the last few weeks (since the first Tennessee game) IMO, and I actually think he’s one of our better team defenders and rebounders now. But there’s a stark contrast from needing production from Robinson and Brea and needing it from Brea and an amalgamation of Almonor and Noah. No disrespect to those guys, who I love btw. It’s the difference from really being in a good position to make a run and being vulnerable to a first round upset if we end up with the wrong matchup, IMO.

- Just to reiterate: I love this team. We have ballers top to bottom with off-the-charts BBIQs and they are giving it their all. The entire operation is focused around winning, which is all I asked for when Cal left, and in that department they’ve more than delivered. I think Pope will have better teams, but perhaps not one with this level of consistently correct decision making and execution.

- Butler’s season is largely going to be forgotten I’m afraid, which is a bummer because he was genuinely one of the best PGs we’ve had here before he got hurt. And it’ll be a long time before we get another big with Williams’ skill set (dude thoroughly outplayed Broome btw).

- The SEC is obviously ridiculous, but can’t remember another year with this many great teams and so many good ones. Auburn has the best adjOE of any team in the Kenpom era (by a decent margin) and there are 7 teams with an adjOE over 125 - including us. Some years there are zero. There are six teams with a better net rating than 2024 UConn. Just a crazy year.

Buying too much stuff lately. Late night surfing and slick websites have the UPS guy wearing a path on my frozen lawn to the front door. Got another coffee setup for the wife. New grinder and pour over machine to match the espresso station. Beauties. Walnut and matte black. I’m a sucker for industrial design.

What happened to Kenji Lopez Alt? Is he transitioning? He lost a lot of weight, maybe a facelift, new hairdo, and painted finger nails… new set for his YouTube channel that looks like he left his wife and now he’s cooking on a dorm room hot plate …not that there’s anything wrong with that.

@rudd1 you like American brands?Took a flier and I bought a pair of Danner🇺🇸 boots. Very surprised by the great quality.

Parker Posey in White Lotus is incredible. My wife and I quote her Best in Show lines to this day. Love her. 🐝
