GYERO

I can't even fathom how despondent I would be right now if Cal was still our basketball coach.

Pope is a shining beacon of light in the UK sports wilderness.

He's a shocking shakiniah glory of pure light and love and empathy and also a SIGNPOST for where coaches Should be evolving and i LOVE HIM

(/no sarcasm)

Yall are being too harsh on Stoops though
Come on now - bad season but - i think its the exception to how our team normally performs

The conference getting tougher surely hasn't helped UK footballs journey to respectability -
And the whole transfer portal / free agency / NIL expenditures shift is -possibly under appreciated for how much uncertainty it's injecting into the development and performance of teams

Isn't it fair to say that NO team really knows who they'll have on the roster for the following season?

I do know this - our offensive line looked SEC elite a few years back
And we seemed to get good mileage from makeshift QBs

Shit - I just accidentally started a kitchen fire
Back later

Stoops had a felon (domestic abuse) convince him he was a NIL guru. Claimed he could get him $ from small business owners etc. Of course, he was FOS.

The guy had contacted me and claimed he had Antonio Reeves so we talked. I realized he was a liar within one conversation. But that’s how he got my #. So one day I get a call from the guy. He’s like here is Coach Stoops. He wants to talk with you. Coach starts talking NIL etc. I am just stunned and thinking WTF are you doing? . A few weeks later the football staff did some background and realized he was a con man and booted him from the facility.

My point is our coach was willing to break blatant rules for no reason. With someone he had no idea who he was. So I knew, in that moment, our coach was a f’n idiot.

I just find the whole thing stupid and wreckless.

Well, at least Stoops was willing to blatantly break the rules. That’s exactly what it takes. The man got it done for a while.

Now, it’s time to go.

You don’t have to hate the guy.
Why would I hate the guy? The only person I dislike a great deal is Mitch. It’s on him. Don’t blame Stoops for wanting his $.

I'll respectfully disagree. This season, on the surface, could appear to be an anomaly, an outlier. But if you look deeper, it's the trough of a fairly obvious trend. Add in the fact that we're on probation, and that Stoops couldn't pack his bags FAST enough after the season ended last year, and that is all the evidence I need to see.

He needs to go. And the longer we wait, the more difficult the next coaches job gets.

Further, nothing but stubborn/bad coaching left 3 wins on the field this year. (Vandy, Auburn, and Louisville)

In two of those games, we had a distinct talent advantage (UL and Vandy), and I'm not so sure that Auburn had a sizable talent gap on us, AND that game was at home. We had WR's lining up close to the f***ing LB'ers on at least three plays during, IIRC, the Auburn game, for fvcks sake...

Stoops has NO clue on how to run even a basic offense. And his OC hires, with VERY few exceptions have been absolute dumpster fires. It was clear, VERY early in the season, to almost everyone except for, it would seem, Stoops and Hamden, that BVG is a TERRIBLE QB. And on top that, Hamden, IMO, is the worst UK playcaller since Elliot Uzelac.

fire Mitch, and then hire someone that will fire Stoops. Problem solved... and hell, like I said; we're on probation. We have CAUSE!

And THIS, to the relief of MANY, I'm sure; is my last post about UK Football, until next season.

I refuse to get my hopes up; re: a new coach next year. That would be diametrically opposed to the Kentucky Football "WAY"...

I feel like we managed to land on a respectable island ot stability and "above averageness" (with outbursts of occasional A- type outcomes) --- so. talking about replacing Stoops makes me nervous ....

I just keep thinking back at all the REALLY AWFUL football moments, plays and seasons and inexplicable curse like outcomes and NEVER expecting our players to make 1/1 open field tackles.../and other old chestnuts like -- cheating and using University letter head to ensure we left a clear trail to the recruits --THEN going 2-9 after CHEATING to get the team together

And - delay of game penalties on our pwn
GD kickoff team -- or silently succumbing to the belief that there WAS a freaking curse on the program --- holy hell -- all the ways we lost to people - Jerry Claiborne running up the Freakin MIDDLE four times in a row in Knoxville to lose again to those unwashed heathen

All I'm saying is this -- if YOU were the devil and you offered me a contract in (someone else's) blood GUARANTEEING ME we remain at Stoops general level of success - FOREVER

No more probations, no more thirty year losing streaks -- I would sign that deal with you tonight, Mister Satan

Hope that was clear to yall like it was for me
Who the hell would we even get?

Full disclosure : I've never coached at any level, don't understand "all the factors" & was also convinced that Cal's only problem was a lack of chemistry with new batches of players

So - thats it

Regarding non-threatening life changing health issues, an alcoholic can perform their job reasonably well up until a point. Then, it starts to deteriorate and the job suffers to a point of failure. Watching Stoops, listening to his comments and hearing a little about his lifestyle, I've wondered if that has become an issue.

On to basketball season.

Holy Shit - awww man -- he's going Eddie Sutton on us ...or is it more like Billy Clyde type drinking?

Damn it -- WE CANT HAVE NICE (football) THINGS

Ohhhhhh snap

And - there's the curtain lifting just a bit for my tired, sad (and wonderfully hazel) eyes

Well - i guess we have to try and pull a younger coach in - maybe the dude from Army? They're winning and that's rare

What about maybe James Madison or UT-SA -
Smaller programs that seem to be surging -

Shit -- Sorry yall

Now Im just standing naked in my bathroom typing useless university names with no real clue - damnit --

Surely we'll rebound next year though
6-7 wins minimum

Does anyone think that UK maybe ought to consider.....not ....playing in the SEC anymore?

I know that's heresy but - football needs some meaningful realignment to designate the teams truly focused and capable of winning a title

Then - another group of "smart schools" or something

From what I recall, Eddie Sutton would drink BCG under the table. IIRC, more than once, Sutton vomited on the team bus. LOL

OMG - dude I remember seeing them in the 1986 SEC tournament & staying current on recruiting news via my Cats Pause newspaper -- and i JUST KNEW he was about to clean house and DESTROY the Basketball universe

Related topic - Oliver Reed said that Lee Marvin was a fellow actor that could out drink him --

Andy Griffith also said to be a mean and difficult drunkard (and he was fornicating with Helen)

Winston Churchill - started drinking sometime after starting work early each day and continued all throughout the evening - ALL the freaking time

Alice Cooper!
Had horrific stories of drying out

Hey Hyman - hope you are well

I mentioned you in conversation to Brandi and one or two other ppl the other day

re: Sutton other than never geting to see shawn kemp suit up (obviously) it killed me that we lost Eric Manuel after 1 year. I think that dude would have killed it here. Skilled at pretty much every facet of the game. then, of course, the wheels fell off.

Eric "Moon" Manuel goes off against LSU in the 88 SEC tourney - 10 of 15 shooting, 7 boards, 5 assists, 1 steal, team leading 24 points...

Winston Bennett went beast mode too with 7 boards and 23 points

Also, you get to see Rob Lock get dunked on REPEATEDLY 🤣 🤣 🤣

(if you're bored and want to get that football game taste out of your mouth...)
