  • Palumbo moving on to the Popes this quickly wasn't exactly a surprise, but does she realize how fake it makes her look? Just kidding, she would have to have self-awareness for that to happen. But if it means the Palumbos are sending checks to NIL I'm #TeamJennifer and wish you guys would stop talking smack about her.
  • I like hearing about the NBA - as in I'm glad it's there and I'm interested in what's going on - but I have zero desire to watch it. At least until it gets to the 4th quarter of elimination games. I assume others feel the same as I feel like a lot of people talk about the NBA, but the ratings are terrible.
  • For someone who didn't really win anything, the jocking of Rich Brooks on here is exceeded only by the jocking of Tyler Ulis. I said what I said.
  • If you're a coach, you can be a star in the NFL, college football, and college basketball. In the NBA, I feel like best case scenario is you're Spoelstra, where you get the benefit of the doubt on your decisions and a few stars won't be able to get you fired on a whim. That's why I can see Hurley staying in college.
  • For all the dumb shit about soccer, the absolute dumbest is the fact that in 2024 they can't stop the clock when play is dead. Like baseball, I know it's "tradition" to have a running clock with stoppage time, but they are doing video monitor reviews now. Can we at least stop the clock for the monitor reviews?

For the Basketball Bennies:

Interesting clip, but this is just the tip of the spear.

The thing that impresses me most about Hurley’s last 2 UConn teams is the execution. My HS team had 4 different sets to get into our base offense. That’s not extraordinary. But every element of their offense is executed near-flawlessly. The spacing, the timing, cutting, screens, etc. They do all the little things exceptionally well.

Cal lost his way on emphasizing fundamentals. Go watch any of our games and ask yourself if we set a single quality screen. (Spoiler: we don’t)

If you’re a true basketball junkie and strategist I think the opportunity to coach a team of skilled 30 somethings that you keep together for many years together would be more appealing than trying to deal with an entirely new team of 19 year olds that you have to keep teaching basic fundamentals to and start from square one practically every year which I think after a while would become a huge exhausting drain. I personally think that’s what eventually wore down Cal.

Can anyone give me the Reader's Digest verson of UK Basketball developements (if there are any) that I missed?
It is promising that we will land Amari Williams and (though there is less chatter here) Great Osobor (please Lord!) in the next week or two. There are rumors that there are still several very high level players who will be in the portal by May 1 but who are still waiting on checks to clear before announcing -- probably all the way up to the last moment.

This is not some insider knowledge or anything, just my reading tea leaves, but it would seem likely to me that we will start getting a handful of great commitments soon but our roster won't be complete until much later in the summer and that we are going to be almost entirely made up of transfer, which will be awesome, especially when we play Duke and the corpse of their roster replaced by high-faluting freshman.

My how the worm turns.

Just watched some highlights of Great Osobor. JFC... That guy is something else. Footwork in the low post is absurd. Damn, I hope we get both those guys. They already look like they could tear the SEC a new one.

@WayneDougan you’re not getting it man. We’re not jocking Brooks for his wins here as much as we’re jocking his lifestyle, period.

He’s one of the coolest, low key funny old men in the country, golfs daily, can walk on to any field he’s ever coached and get a roaring ovation, yet he’s also the type of dude taking gd riverboat cruises on the Mississippi.

He’s basically our classy version of Orgeron.

Revered by his former players, shows up at all the big games at all his coaching stops. Fishing for trout with Stan Potter, golfing with the now deceased Don Sutton. Trips to Europe.
As stated, he lives life. How everyone would want to spend retirement. A fine American.
everything Brooks built was tossed into the trash heap of UK football history thanks to Mitch making Joker the coach in waiting.

Coach Brooks once showed me a video of him making love to my wife, and it was the most beautiful thing I ever saw!

Wayne needs a gummy. How any red-blooded American can poo poo a second of that whale of a man’s life, well, he ain’t living right.

I like Rich Brooks and I appreciate what he did for our school’s football program. It’s a shame Joker destroyed that. Also, I too am envious of Rich Brooks’s retirement. Glad he’s doing well.

All that said, he couldn’t beat UT or UF. So let’s not crown his ass.

I think the simplest and most effective IQ test for 8-year old's is just having them run the bases a few times and see which ones miss a base.

Rich Brooks got off the team bus at the 2006 Music City Bowl and looked up at my sign. That read “I’ve been waiting 22 years for today” and said I like your sign. Proceeded to beat the 9.5 point favorite Clemson Tigers and put the sign in his book.

He’s cool as shit. Stoops could learn a thing or two from him.
