What an odd early basketball season. I have no reason to have confidence in the school I cheer for, but what little I’ve seen of some of the other top ranked teams, I don’t see much to be afraid of either.

I don’t care that Gonzaga beat us, or MSU for that matter. I’m not so impressed with Texas, Creighton, UNC, Gonzaga, Duke, IU etc that I think we can’t beat any of them as we gel together and Cal “figures” this out.

The only question is honestly the coach.

OTOH, our football program! WTF, I realize the guys leaving aren’t 1-2 on depth charts, but we had important holes to fill in meaningful positions. Now we’re losing valuable depth too!

Did these guys like Scangrello? Didn’t even want to wait until a new OC is hired? Maybe even see what’s possible for QB replacement?

I can’t imagine being a head coach/recruiter in this mess. Not only are you about to convince early signees to sign, but keep your team together and cycle thru the portal and get guys to sign too, ugh!

Oh and BTW all during the damn holiday season? No wonder these dudes end up divorced.
Bro I was BRIEFLY an athletic trainer at an NAIA school and they expected you to work 12-15 hour days 7 days a week during season. So I can only imagine what it’s like the higher you climb. Only the top coaches/personnel make real money everyone else makes nothing. Multiple coaches had a free house to share, free food from the school cafeteria and besides that made basically nothing to work those hours. Big time sports is insane.

I recommend Cincinnati Insurance. Great company. No questions, no hassles, shit just gets paid and done. It costs a little more, but hey, you get what you pay for. And I really hate hassles.

First car was a 91 Buick Regal. Nothin fancy but it had that 3.8 liter V6 that GM ran for years. From the perspective of 16YO Wynn, the thing screamed. Plus it had a gigantic back bench seat with soft and plush blue almost velveteen fabric. That bench seat got some mileage with the “whores on the hill” across the street (AKA Notre Dame Pandas). Now, I am a shell of that formerly young, virile and strapping man.

Was good to finally meet WCC, even if in passing as I was hustling out of happy hour to go pick up my adoring children. He is a handsome man.

Good seeing you, brother. The mustache was a bit of a surprise but otherwise you looked about how I imagined.

If you can, think about next Friday.

CIC and Encova (Motorists) are both good choices. And not just because the latter is largely responsible for the bulk of my paycheck.

Sitting in an Applebees (I know) following dragging my husband to a bar association event and there is a Big Ten Fat bellowing through the bar about how the big10 is supreme and SEC fans are wrong about everything. Guy asked how that was possible since Kentucky just beat Penn State. “There’s only two teams that matter, Ohio state and Michigan.” K bub. Go ahead and snip the tags off that UM hat you’re sporting on your greasy sweatball noggin.

F the entire Big Ten.

ETA there is a lady at the high top next to ours deadass asleep. This place is amazing.

You actually went to an NKBA event, Pretzel? Bless you. I’ve not been to one in my 15 years. I like to maintain anonymity, especially amongst narcs.

Edit - also, the best Christmas song is Hark the Herald Angels Sing. One of the most powerful songs I know of, seasonal or otherwise, to be honest. Look at these beautiful Irish women.

Wynn, I went purely because I made up excuses not to go the last 2 years and needed to curry enough favor to get away with excuses next year. You missed a guy who isn’t old enough to be a boomer launch into a total non sequitur lecture about how “the younger generation” has no “respect” for the practice of law. That was uh, poorly received.

^I'd imagine seats won't be an issue considering everyone else in the country will be in a pub watching the real UK play soccer.

-Deion to Colorado... I love that dude. Hopefully he keeps it up. Poor Cards just can't catch a break. Scott getting a few gifted wins mid-season is just so spicy.

-Music City or Liberty Bowl? Meh.

-Those doubting Musk are having a tough week. Still don't trust his crazy ass but hard to hate on him right now.

-Speaking of crazy, crazy smart people, Neil deGrasse Tyson is wildly entertaining on the JRE this week. First one I've listened to in awhile.

-Awesome to see Anthony Davis out there in "best player in the world" like form. Keep it up, big fella. Get the f*ck out of crazy town and away from toxic ass LBJ.

-Frank and Dino's was really great last night. My meatballs are better but carpaccio, arancini, veal chop, and risotto were all quality.

Did that nutty family court judge up there who tried to use her DNA panel as a brothel ever get disbarred?
She’s not a judge anymore, don’t know what happened to her license or if she’s practicing still. I try to ignore anything having to do with lawyers. Pretzel can probably fill in the gaps - she’s really into law.

I’ll be in Lex to watch the state championship. Bullitt East is coaching scared. Literally plans to play his best 11 the whole game, and I’m sure he isn’t the first coach to fall for the concept, but I’d expect that to not succeed.

Hopefully he steps back off that ledge!

Ex judge Gentry agreed to a 4 year suspension. Not sure if it was a suspension that will be lifted at the end of the term or if it turns indefinite, like the “5 year” suspension my classmate convicted of $13 mil in tax fraud got.

That’s the lawball scuttlebutt of this chilly Saturday, back to you in the studio.

Vegas in 2 weeks. Even more stoked for this trip than I was in February. First time seeing my Raiders (they're shitty, I know) at their home venue ever, and that stadium looks incredible. A little selfishly bummed UK didn't fall to the Vegas Bowl. That would've been an extra awesome bonus. My brother, Patriots fan since the 70s, has never been to Vegas, either. Raiders-Pats SNF, David Blaine at Resorts World, Golden Knights game, and all the gambol we can handle.

F*ck the Dutch. Austin Powers' dad was right.

Glad Dest and Adams are playing with 100% effort! USA 🇺🇸 !!!!

We’re a bunch of amateurs. Our good players are B grade at best. Van Dijk walks around the Netherlands back line like a Greek god.

US Soccer Fan is such an annoying breed. Got on Twitter for the first time in a year to read replies from these know-it-all pricks bitching about coaching. It’s pretty clear to these amateur eyes that the Dutch are a clear step above in talent. They’re bigger, faster, more talented and just plain better.

Van Dijk would be a hell of a TE/LB if he was a US citizen. Memphis a great RB. Dumfries as a WR/DB.

The white guy that scored would still be playing soccer.

Point taken. But Van Dijk and Memphis make $15m/year. A lot of our football players in the US would probably make a lot more money if they focused on soccer instead of football.

Unfortunately, there are few opportunities for lower income kids in the US to play soccer. It’s an elitist sport. The club pay to play system sucks.
